That's the same route Foda posted. It looks fine to me btw... I had forgotten you needed the vanish cap for Dire Dire Doks in my post... so that route ain't possible.

Something I stumbled on while working on level 7. Looks very cool, but it can't be included since getting the last blocks here is slower than other strategies...

This way, you don't have to go through the basement twice.
If you are calling the basement what I think you are calling it, then Foda's route doesn't need to visit it twice, since he'll go this way I assume: Either way, I think the most efficient route is: Dire Dire Docks Bowser in Fire Sea Get Mips1 Shifting Sand Land Lethal Lava Land Get Mips2 Toad Star + Metal Cap + Hazy Maze Cave Vanish Cap Re-enter + reset Big Boo's Haunt Re-enter + reset / Run back to main hall Only thing that's bad about this is the fact that re-entering Big Boo's Haunt probably takes a little longer than the other levels.

well I will vote yes because this is a good run and there is no warps version nor one being worked on.
Check my userpage (link is in my sig), and look at current projects ;).

1. What version of FCEU should I use for TAS's? I've noticed there are a lot of unofficial versions as well as the official one.
Even if you are lazy, you should be able to find it easily, without too much effort spend. - Press "FAQ" (at the top of your screen) - Press "Emulators" - Press "FCM" (FCEU's movie files) - Press "FCE-Ultra" - Pick the newest version (FCEU 0.98.15) You could also have taken it from the topic below this one, which is about FCEU....

2. How does frame advance work?
I'm sure you could have just found it somewhere, without too much trouble... either way (for FCEU): - Press it at a certain frame to pause the game/movie at that frame - Press it again (while possibly holding some buttons) to get to the next frame - Hold it to play the game/movie somewhat normal, and after releasing you'll have the game/movie paused again - Press pause to play the movie/game like normal again

I managed to improve level 5 with 22 frames saved on my wip, and I completed level 6 35 frames faster than the version in my previous wip. So I'm done with redoing the level I did in the previous wip now. I'm a total of 315 frames (=more than 6 seconds) faster than my previous version! (and this version doesn't lose a ball) Sorry for the slow progress sofar. For the next 3 weeks I'm also pretty busy, so don't expect too many updates. After that, I'll have more time and will make faster progress.

I agree, people can do what they want. I always stopped input at the first frame possible, but now I'm tending more to stopping the input after actually completing the game (last hit hits the final boss). This way completion of the game cannot be prevented by pressing start or anything, and you'll have the shortest avi time.

A few funny Megaman 5 movies. (only glitches were used, no codes or anything) Crashing the game at waveman Getting stuck at waveman Funny chargeman battle I had accidently performed the train glitch at the chargeman stage for the first time, but I couldn't reproduce it (I didn't record me doing the glitch). I did have a savestate during the glitch, and I wondered what happened if you killed chargeman this way. To find out, I had to use gyro attack, but I didn't have enough weapon hp for this. This is why I got the powerups at the start of this movie. It all worked out very well for testing it :)

You can't luck manipulate the comp just to hand everything over. He will however give up all of his belongings to a full set of streets. A movie of this was made by Hero of the Day, you can download it here. It was unfortunately not the fastest strategy.

:O, cool stuff :) Any particular reason why there was player-2 input?

Hehe, sometimes he does. Brushy's suggestions were accepted quite often actually. But mostly the screenshots don't show some crazy glitch or something too action packed. I think Bisqwit mostly picks a screenshot that has some action and give an idea of the game and the movie (for people who don't know the game).

I mean, how's it going?
Not too much to report. I've finished level 5, and sofar I wasn't able to get it faster than the level 5 in my wip, so I made a version that plays level 5 exactly like the previous wip, which is just fine. I am still working on level 5 though to get it faster, but if nothing comes up, I'll take the version I have now. So ~5/36 levels completed. (hard to give a % completed of the run, since some levels are harder than others)

Yeah, I don't think it's a wrong idea to post the main findings here. Some will probably have seen them already the the sda forum... but it's kinda messy, with 10 pages being added every day.

It does. Knowing about pinball helps playing pinball movies... playing SMB games helps with other platformers, since the physics are usually similar and other things.
For a normal speedrun, I agree, but for a tas... I disagree.

JXQ is using this trick to run faster in his Super Metroid 100% run. Why wasn't it used in this run?

- Could be more accurate. - Wasn't very interesting. - Stopped very unexpected. Therefor voting no. Maybe picking another game would be better.
Making of the movie wasn't difficult to a seasoned pinball player.
Being a seasoned pinball player shouldn't matter that much when making a tas. Having an analytical take on the game does. You should make a movie that is very difficult to make, since generally; the more time you put in to making a movie, the better it will look.

I've restarted my Arkanoid tas. I will make a version which uses the 3-ball powerup only (everyone seemed to agree with this), and without losing any balls (most people seemed to prefer this). I'm currently done redoing the first three levels. I'm 160 frames ahead of the wip I posted earlier, and this version doesn't lose any balls! /Edit Turns out I didn't time right... I'm actually 225 frames ahead of the wip I posted earlier. /Edit2 Just finished redoing level 4. Saved another 33 frames to my previous wip, now 258 frames ahead.

Just watched the movie. Was looking pretty nice for first tas ever. 2 player runs are always a pain to make, and somehow you chose to do a 2 player tas for a first attempt... respect for that. I don't know the game well enough to vote, so I won't. I also would think a 2 player tas should technically be faster. If lag really does make it slower, I would be wondering if there are actually 20 seconds of lag (this version is 20 seconds slower than the 1-player run). Also; if the game is very laggy (with 2 players), and since you are controlling 2 players, the rerecord count seems relatively low (this is just something I noticed... a movie will never be judged on its rerecord count).

If I remember correctly that's not an options... since bombchu's are needed to skip the bomb bag, and the bomb bag is needed to buy bombchu's at the back alley store...

To mwl: In the route you posted... wouldn't you need to use another bombchu when entering zora's river?

I don't really know... you can really tell he's used to normal playing, and not making tases. I don't know much about the scoring system, and bonus scores and such... but if he made a tas, aiming for the highest possible score, he should at least equal the world record time at the break the targets mode, if not beating the world record. Finishing the break the target mode will earn you more points... so I don't really think it's a great tas (he even missed some hits :O ) and it can clearly be improved.

Suggestion for Diman: Improve Rockin' Kats.
I agree, but I would say: Suggestion for Diman: Improve Rockin' Kats and show wips after each level. Rockin' Kats truly is a perfect game for tasing. Diman should be proud of having the movie of it, even though it is the least downloaded movie on the site (I have no idea why this is, since I watched this tas quite often). I'm currently very busy with other things, but since I like Rockin' Kats, and think the current tas could get a nice improvement, I would consider tasing it in the far future. However, it would be even better if Diman improved it, so I'm definately voting for that!

Don't really know what to vote for this movie... Most people voting yes are voting yes since they played this game as a kid, and it appears to show some pretty hard stuff... I haven't played it when I was young, and I fully agree with Guybrush:

I'll refrain from voting for now. Edit: I voted no, for reasons above.
