Interesting- it's somewhat contradictory that the site got more traffic during the summer, but saturdays are still the slow days. I'm always interested by these.

It does look great- personally I think the flare, if that's what it's called, could stand moving a few pixels to the left to intrude less on the text.

It's one of the questions ionxx asked in the very first post. I have no idea what the game is like, but it sounds like using the revolver would use a lot better. Can you switch between the weapons without accessing a time-consuming menu? Because that would be best. If not, I would prefer one which used a rifle with less accuracy than one exclusive to pistol.

This has been done on SDA, and it looks WAY better than the X4 run. It's quite nice.

I think somebody else might as well take this as a project.

Indeed- it's one or the other. If you download the emulator, rom, and gmv, it is inconvenient and you can't skip around during the movie, but you could be watching it in 5 minutes(not to mention the file size).

I've asked this recently about a different game, but does this one use L+R+Start+Select? If so maybe you could use it. If not, I think dying after getting a star would be fine if you can make it so that you will only need to take a single hit after getting the star in order to die. Unless getting a star heals you, I forget. It's been awhile.

If it was about ears, it had to have been before Tyson bit Holyfield's ears off. Or did that happen before, too? At any rate, I think the names are way way more appropriate to their fighting styles now.

I wouldn't make it until it's confirmed by one of the publishers. I have a feeling that it hasn't been published because Bisqwit still isn't quite satisfied with it.

The more this is discussed the more I'm looking forward to it.

Would it be feasible to allow movies from save states in some exceptions(such as this one), then put the save state as an additional file if it is published, allowing access to the starting point for anyone who wants to try their hand at it? For instance, the save state in this particular case would come right before the title screen pops up after beating the game for the first time. The only possible downside would be that some might try to cheat, making their own save state a few frames before the "official" save state begins. But this should be easy enough to detect.

Heh, I didn't know that. But a faster way to go through the movie if you do have to is to go to Options --> Settings --> Skip Rendering 59, Tab Toggles Turbo. Then you just have to hit tab and wait for it to catch up. Just be ready once it does. I speak from experience when I say it's annoying to forget to hit tab again.

I don't think walkerboh is a single entity. I think he's a conglomerate of about 50 different people cooperating together who were placed on this earth for one reason and one reason alone: time attacks.

Blechy... Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm glad you did another version. I just experimented and I executed the boxing boss like that by heading towards that corner. He follows you into the corner, but you have to use your left punch at just the right time so that he bounces a little bit off of it, then keeps heading into it until he's really pinned in the corner. If you do the first punch too early or too late he will punch you back. I doubt the harder difficulty actually changes the boss' AI, though it probably makes him last longer and do more damage(the latter of which isn't a concern). edit: and I just happened to forget to use the cannon in my video also. When I made it I was just experimenting, and it happened to end the match really quickly, heh. I don't think the cannons would change the boss' behavior so you might want to try it out.(edit2: at the same time as punching) Concerning the vertical scrolling stage, I originally suggested not killing everything because all those explosions really created immense lag if I remember correctly. So it may not be apparent when not comparing this run to the original, but I'm sure this one is much more fast paced due to the lack of lag, just as long as it's executed in an entertaining fashion. It's valagard's call really.

I'm definitely a bigger fan of incredible looking moves, but only if there are a lot of places which really look unique not only to the rest of the game, but to those in gradius 1 as well. For example, in gradius 1 a lot of moves could be done with rerecords alone. But it's parts such as the volcanoes or one of the bosses in which there are just so many fast moving projectiles on the screen that slow motion is necessary which really stand out to me. If there are unique parts of the game such as those, I'd say definitely go for the more impressive moves.

I'm gonna say yes to this one, because the general familiarity of the game and the quality of the run shadows the low entertainment level in some parts. edit: and I think the majority is with you on the decision to take damage for time.

I'm not sure focusing on time units is always the best, since the gametime(decided by amount of frames) is what decides if a movie gets obsoleted or not. That's my opinion, but that being said I would favor whichever has the lower time.

Basically the things I don't like about this movie weren't your fault. The action scenes are certainly done well, I think most would agree on that. Unfortunately, the magical stardust is just ridiculous, and once you get it boss fights are no longer fun to watch(I liked the very first time you used magic to dodge the minotaur's attack". And as I and probably others suspected, the sim sections aren't very fun to watch and there's just nothing you can really do about it. I found myself fast forwarding through every one and I don't think that should be necessary in watching a time attack. I assume you attack during a jump to extend the distance you jump? I never knew about that. But, don't take this all too seriously, I'm curious to know what others think. It was certainly a well played run.

Anyway, in order to get it back on topic: http://www.thezorz.com/agile/ontheballblechy.smv That's the one I made some time ago. It's not submission quality, I just wanted to see roughly what it would look like. It was on the following level that I realized so much bouncing would need to be done(there's none done in that movie), so I don't even know if bouncing in that level I show would actually speed it up. But the levels get much more fast paced, and it would be rotating at that speed, but constantly, and alternating going left and right.

Didn't know it was for gameboy, but wow. I guess it came with some device which detected the alignment of the gameboy?

I haven't watched it, but in response to bisqwit's question I'm guessing goofyman's answer would be that the identifying factor is that he only gets hit where it's necessary. However, I don't think not getting hit should add 50ish minutes onto frenom's time. That's probably because you went for so many items. However, I think the general consensus(I know this is how I feel) is that the general rule isn't "the higher the completion percentage the better". I don't think completion percentage really matters at all, except for one statement: There is 100%, and there's everything else. In my opinion, unless it's actually done somehow in less or equal time, a 99% run should not be classified any differently from a 26% run such as frenom's. If you want to do a no-hit run for this game, I would suggest doing a 100% run, establishing the no-hit rule for it. Your time would have to beat that of Red Scarlet's run(and come extremely close to Samus Aran's time), and you would probably even have to modify their paths a little bit. But as it stands, I don't think that the no-hit and "gets a high but not quite 100%" rules of the run quite qualify it, even if it were played perfectly. I"d have to vote no. edit: watching it. If you decide to make another video, be very careful in the future: you miss a whole lot of shots, and often miscalculate ducks and jumps. If you watch it back, be careful to notice every single thing which can be improved, they're reasonably frequent.

Yeah, I first had a bad experience with DefilerPak, then with what's supposed to be a great one, ACE's mega codecs pack. After both screwed something up in some way or another, I'm done with codec packs. Download GSpot as that page reccommends. It is extremely helpful. Just put a shortcut to it on your desktop, and when you have a movie you're curious about, drag it right onto the icon.

http://tasvideos.org/UsingEmulatorTools.html I started this up some time ago and linked to it from the FAQ, hoping some could assist in filling in information. If you didn't see it at first would anyone mind filling in what they know? I'm sorry I couldn't help much, I just wanted to get something up about it, since the site revolves around emulator tools and we don't have basic instructions on how to use them. If you're not an editor and you can articulately word(I can help out on this) the details, feel free to do so and I will put it on the page.
