I don't know anything about tilt n tumble, but if it's the ball itself that moves, what would stop it from being just as good as an on the ball run, only less nauseating?

I know this game was discussed at some point, but maybe it was just in the IRC channel. To me, this game could either go really well or really badly. There are I think 7 ways to spin the screen- 4 in one direction and 3 in the other(2 of those are using the control pad. The 6th button on the controller is used to bounce the ball off walls). There are so many buttons for a single direction because they all control different speeds- however, the more buttons pushed to go in one direction, the faster you go in that direction. The bouncing would be the most difficult part of making the video, as bouncing in a direction propels you faster than just freefalling. But it's hard to pinpoint the best place to propel from and the best angle to propel at. This all sounds very complicated, but would make for a very fun to watch video. Except one thing. As it was stated, the screen can rotate very fast at times, and to make it through the game as fast as possible, the player will have to rotate extremely quickly. I made a video myself of the level being done very quickly, and it wasn't TOO nauseating, but it was bad enough. I'd try again, but for some stupid reason my keyboard permits me from pressing very few buttons at a time, something this game requires a lot of(I've tried all kinds of key combinations).

So I see very many movies have no seeds... whatever happened to this idea?

It looks great(and I know the IRC channel has been saying the same). It's a little boring before getting many characters, obviously not under your control. My only question is, could you have beaten that first boss quicker by jumping along with him and attacking? You may have had to take damage to do so. And in this case I think the shooter level might have been more interesting if you let the ships onto the screen. But that's hardly a big deal. I never expected moai to look like that, heh. Great run!

Do we learn about Gogo in one of the games and I missed it, or is that outside reading?

My mistake, I think I heard someone say what I said at some point, never tested it.

Before you posted that you wanted to improve SMW, I had seen it as something which couldn't be improved muchtimewise but could be improved a lot stylistically: a lot of the levels could be a lot more entertaining. Because of your recent thread on the game, I'm guessing you've got a more entertaining movie which is slower. Personally, I don't think I'd prefer a slower movie, even by a second, and even if it's more entertaining AS LONG AS you used the same route as him: that is, if it could equal his time(which it could) but simply makes it more entertaining, but doesn't equal it, then I wouldn't vote for it because I knew it could be better. But if it did equal his speed, making more interesting moves, I'd definitely vote yes for it.

114 seconds faster after what, 4 back and forth versions? <3 genisto. edit: by "what" I meant I didn't remember exactly how many versions came before it.

I'm glad to see that Phil's FCEU movie was acceptable. I certainly think that since it was accepted, anybody should be able to use it to make movies- I know I'd like to. I would like to see already made movies such as Josh's to be submitted sooner or later. Any possible rules? -Should new versions of movies already made in famtasia be made in famtasia as well to keep consistent? -Should there be some more time until they are more widely accepted? I think bisqwit said he wanted some time to practice with them. -Would movies made by one emulator be generally preferred over the other? Comments by bisqwit and phil? The published FCM came as quite a surprise I think.

Agreed. The single downside I could see is that "Total Downloads" for each movie would no longer be true but that doesn't really matter.

I wouldn't reccommend changing frame skip. Using shift and + or - should be enough.

Shift+([, ], Insert, Home, Page Up, Delete, End, Page Down) all toggle autofiring different buttons. But be warned that they only push that button apparently every other frame. Oh, I realized why they have that. If it was pushed every frame, it would essentially be liking holding the button, since it's being pushed every single frame.

About versions in filenames, I was one who searched for the phrase "time attacks" on DC++, and naturally a lot came up. I saw a whole bunch of different versions for each game, many people still having two or more versions of a same game. While many take good care of their collection, reasoning that there's no need to keep obsolete versions around, many also don't take good care of their collection, either keeping the obsoletes for some reason(I've kept some obsoletes in fact- mega man x followed massive improvements, and I wanted to keep morimoto's smb3 and rockman) or just being too lazy to delete them. At any rate, I think that naming convention would be superior. Also, an FTP site would probably be wonderful, I just wonder how long the bandwidth would last.

Red scarlet is probably spinning in her metaphorical internet grave. Just be wary to make the distinction between being the best player at a game, and being a persistent, dedicated time attacker of a game. But anyway, I think a grant run should be done because in my opinion it'd probably be more interesting than sypha's, though longer. Alucard can fly, Grant can climb walls(and won't have to collect hearts), and Sypha's got nasty spells. While allowing her to dispose enemies in a quick and sometimes interesting manner, personally I don't think it's quite as interesting as seeing the player exploit the layout of the levels/walls as well as possible.

I made that page because midnight candidate asked me on instant messenger the best way to get a list of all obsoleted movies. I gave him a list of all movies published on the site, so he could see both obsoleted ones and new ones. That was the easiest way I could think of of getting a list of all obsoleted movies for him with what I already knew. I put it on his page because it was only intended for him, and because once he created an account he could get rid of it and edit it to how he liked.

I'm not quite clear on that obsolete movie deleting idea, if it's what I think it is it seems a little unnecessary... usually the filenames have v2, then the new one is called v3, etc, but I guess that's not very reliable as frenom's megamanx video is labeled v3 and wodball's newest is v2. The best way right now to do it would probably be to go thorugh the movie list on the site and compare the file size, author name, and length to the different versions of the appropriate game. But anyway. Bisqwit and phil right now are comfortable with being the ones who encode the videos, as is my understanding. You happen to come at a time when a couple people are also offering to seed constantly(see http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=342&start=30 ), but nothing has happened as of yet so your help would be greatly appreciated. Personally I think the best way one could help the community is by making good videos, heh. But we certainly do need seeds. There are many people just like you who have joined the community(usually through the boards first, then started participating in the IRC channel) who didn't think they'd have the skills to make any videos, then as they got more involved in the community they ended up trying anyway. Everyone welcomes you to post more and join in the channel, of course.

While crystalis is a real joy to play, I think it's generally agreed it wouldn't make a very good time attack: the enforced levels at bosses and the necessary items(though the warp glitch could help with this, that'd be pretty cool) would prevent a lot of necessary luck manipulation. If you could warp-glitch to one of the final areas and level on normal enemies that would progress it much faster, but alas, those cannot be harmed either.

I tried some form of that awhile ago, and the problem was that I think the length of the movie is hidden somewhere in the first lines of hex crap. so if you add stuff at the very end, it will still stop at the same place(or that happened for me at least). My solution was to keep the video going in turbo for awhile, and paste the real movie data over the 0000's.

Even if you get it precise to the frame it can desync. I was fooling around with the mega man x2 video, I went through the intro level sloppily so I could test, hex edited what followed in the movie that is already made at the end of that video, and it progressed through wheel gator for awhile, even successfully completing the frame-specific jump up to the upgrade. right after this jump however it desyncs, and for some reason pushes start too early, pausing the game rather than rapidly moving through dr light's text. I plan on fooling with it more in the future.

has anyone seen him on the users browsing the forums list? I don't think he's been around for a long time.

Is there anything that can be done about the little red monster? I was just skimming through the video and saw him appear at the greenhouse, dunno if he appears anywhere else(I know there are other places he can randomly appear). Whether it be hesitating on the screen before, or backtracking one screen then forward one screen from the screen before, perhaps he could be removed?

Alright... well for the sake of ease if I do a movie in the future with the above conditions, I'll just stay with no damage taken... but alls I have to say is if some clunker comes along and takes damage, it shouldn't be overwritten. Not that I want to get into a debate, but I'm with zurreco. But if we want to stay simple and just try to stay with whatever rules are included in the first made movie of a game, that's okay.
