Ah, don't worry about it too much. Welcome, and sorry if I was being too mean ^_^;; It's just a pet peeve of mine that people don't read an entire thread before posting (which is also why I tend to not read overly long threads, so I won't do it myself)

I like them at least. That avatar maker is hard to get to look good though.. I made a few attempts myself but I'm not really satisfied with them. I also made Kunio and Riki from the Nekketsu series.

The point is that noone has finished level 256 in arcade version because the split screen error. So, could a TAS finish this level or is it impossible to complete?

I see no reason why a superior run (and it is superior, otherwise it would not have obsoleted the existing run, or?) should not have a star if it replaces an inferior run which had.
I personally would vote (if it is a vote) that this run not be starred, just because of the truck battles. The starred runs are supposed to show off what we can do with tool assistance, and I think walking around on autofire and shooting everything 200 times more than needed and missing a ton of shots isn't what we can do with tool assistance. Phil's short WIP which takes a "one shot = one kill" approach to killing everything in that same truck level is a much better demonstration of the "cool, superior efficiency" of tool assistance. So sure, through the levels this run is better, but in the "free" time it's less entertaining, so I don't think it should have star. What other wire games have stars? Does one of the Umihara runs, or Ninja Five-O or something? This is a good game to be starred, but one wire game might be enough.

I guess I should post on topic... Since it's kind of about character obsessions I guess I have a lot of Tomoe Hotaru merchandise (including some dolls, a resin statue, a wallscroll, a few posters, some commissioned artwork, a life-size replica of her Silence Glaive, and of course the manga series and the anime series (including movies and OVAs even though she's in like only 20 episodes tops and not in any of those extras) she's from). So.. EDIT: And yes she's been in a game. Multiple in fact. The games gave names to some of her attacks and also gave her a transformation sequence which she never had in anything else.

I really like this series... but I don't like how this game does inventory management (with a subscreen). It really breaks up the "action" a lot more than the other games. Also the puzzles here mostly don't make sense since they're resolving people's troubles rather than manipulating the environment.

That's true, IV lets you get infinite soldiers. III can do it too but it takes a lot longer (assign an officer troops, fire him, reassign the troops, rehire him with higher Loyalty and the same number of troops) The sheer ease of troop duplication in IV might mean that choosing a leader with a lot of generals and then expanding in every direction every turn is the fastest way to go.

I always turned off watching other warlord's battles, because I found them to be terribly boring, which makes we wonder if people watching a TAS of one of these games would be bored by the battles. True, you could play the battles WAY better than the computer does, but it would still essentially look like a bunch of little sprites running around on a map with swords occasionally appearing between the sprites (for ROTK III, at least, IIRC), which always bored the snot out of me if I wasn't participating.
That kind of thing can be at least partially avoided by doing exploits like starving a city through unfair trades, manipulating enemy generals into accepting duels and then killing or capturing them, using plots with 100% success rate thanks to luck manipulation, etc. The battle scenes also go faster in III than IV mostly because every general with an Army rating of 70+ can do joint attacks.

Rot3K is a turn-based strategy wargame set in three kingdoms-period China (~180-280 AD). A bunch of warlords and their generals conquer cities and provinces, raise and train armies, make and break political alliances, etc., but eventually only one ruler remains to take all of China. The two good games in this series which are runnable are III and IV. III has faster gameplay, more aggressive AI, fewer things to manage (generals don't have special skills, there areno barbarian hordes etc) IV is the one I'm more familiar with, but it's slow and generally easier than III Both have a variety of scenarios with various political situations as starting conditions, but in either game, in any scenario, with any ruler, it's possible to unify China within about 10 years with proper play. So I was thinking of beginning planning and research for one of these games, and then running it. Here are the decisions that need to be made first, though: 1. Which game? I'm more familiar with IV but III would have faster and more entertaining gameplay. 2. Which difficulty setting? I think I'll default to hardest unless there's some reason it'd be mroe fun to steamroll incompetent opponents. 3. Which game mode (Historical or Fictional)? In Rot3K games, each general has a compatibility score, and the closer your leader's compatibility to a general, the more loyal and effective they are, and easier to recruit, bribe, etc. In Historic mode the compatibility values for every general are set, but in Fictional mode they're randomised. Good luck manipulation could let you steal away someone's cities by recruiting their governors, recruit every general with good stats, etc, because of the compatibility value, but that doesn't really seem fair. 4. Which scenario? I think starting as early as possible is the most interesting just because there are more warlords around, but I don't know if that's fastest. 5. Which ruler? This one, I think I'd have to research first. It should be possible to win quickly with any ruler, but choice of ruler determines pretty much every aspect of the game, so.. 6. Single-player or multi-player? In a multiplayer game (4 players in III, 8 players in IV) each "sub-player" could sacrifice generals and territory to the main player, letting the main ruler unify China with pretty much no opposition at all. But that's not really fair either. So, thoughts? Is this a bad choice of a series to attack? And what answers to those six questions?

btfriend does all the torrent-juggling by itself, and I'm pretty sure there's an option to never download torrents you don't already have (so you'd only seed from what you have, but you'd always seed the most needed).

5. Prefer a version for other reasons (graphics, music, level layout). Includes Castlevania 3, includes Contra (J), inludes Ganbare! Goemon, etc., etc.

The rules should be less prohibitive of this version change than of the version change from Megaman 7 to Rockman 7. Why, then, was Rockman 7 accepted without delay, where this submission sits embroiled in interminable controversy?
Well the latter has the correct ending (inaction instead of murderous rage).. and has stage names (or whatever those are).. and both titles have an 'M' in them so they bypass normal delays.

I haven't watched this but I'm a fan of this overlooked series and when I have time I'll definitely look it over. I don't think a 1 or 2 second improvement on a game like this which noone knows or cares about is that important... if you find a faster route, like different items or something, then that's definitely worth redoing for, but other than that I don't think anyone will care about small timesavers in games without the letter 'M' in the title.

Thanks for that truck fight, Phil. That's the kind of thing I was looking for. But maybe your WIP and the obsolete/auxiliary discussion should be split off?

I'm surprised that there are this many people who dislike our play-around time during explosions. We tried to make each level distinct without copying Genisto very much. Some of his were great, but some were not. The wobbling, 30hz fire, and just walk to the left are the ones I didn't like.
The walk to the left one was my favorite, actually. It was the sense of "Job's done, going home." My least favorite was firing at 30hz. Anyway I didn't mention this when I said I liked J version's "personality" more because I liked a lot of the core explosions here, too, though what's possible is constrained by disabled buttons.

In the (U) truck stages, there is not an ambush of four enemies at the beginning like the (J) version, so there are less targets to shoot at. We kept the rocket launcher for the second truck stage because it saved a couple frames to change later than to change then, and also to differentiate from the previous run's play.
This is not why I didn't like the truck play. Genisto did 3 truck stages, which was one too many, sure, and the third one he did was done in a way I didn't like. But the other two, one was "walk by as if nothing's happening, perfectly dodge every attack and look like you're not" and the other was "One shot, one kill, destroy every enemy in range". Yours were "Autofire and missed shots everywhere and look sloppy" and "Kind of okay but imprecise looking Rocket Launcher".

I just watched both versions, and I'm going to vote this one a "meh" not because it was poorly played (in fact it was quite well played and I liked watching it) but because I didn't like how the truck scenes were handled vs the preexisting run. I do think the U version should obsolete the J version, mostly because there are almost no differences between the two with regards to the levels played (but I also think the J version is the better game for many reasons, most of which require actually playing at a slower pace and playing other levels besides these to see). So.. I like the use of "free time" (time you have to do things that don't count against your total time) in the previous run better, and I like the Japanese game version better, but I think the US game version should be published or preferred here and this run is very well executed. Meh vote, vote to obsolete J (with a sentence about the differences in the movie description and a link to the obsoleted movie), vote to have the truck scenes replayed.

I don't remember which one is which but one of the two versions disables your movements when the core is exploding and the other doesn't.

Exodia might be fastest if there's no Devil Franken since 2nd or 3rd turn Exodia is possible even with an uncooperative shuffler. I've also had great success (in the real game, not in electronic variants) with Dark-Demon beatdown + countertraps, a deck type that's quite easy to construct and often wins in ~4 turns.

Because this game has no ending, it seems to end really abruptly and for no reason... I fast-forwarded through most of it and didn't really see anything interesting, then I tried to play and ran out of lives in the first level. Not a good game, not a good game to attack.
