I really like this game's music.. but I was disappointed that UFO was kept the entire time because the UFO sound takes away one of the square waves and makes the music sound bad.

I wonder who would win in a fight between Balrog and RT-55J.. On the one hand, RT-55J is the robot sumo champion (retired). But Balrog is pretty beefy.. and jumps a lot. Occasionally fires missiles.

Chinese completely isn't harder at all. There's no morphology, each character is read only one way, etc.

Salamander absolutely isn't Gradius II. The latter is my favorite in the series.

Is that what the question wanted? I keep reading questions like that as asking about the words or pronunciations so I always look for something like that. So for the fruit one I chose apricot as the only multi-syllabic word - the most different from the others. If that's a wrong answer it's only because I didn't understand the question,,, Anyway this IQ test sucks. There are other online IQ tests that are vaguely better (like the ones that actually calculate your score based on the scores of others etc) but it really needs to be measured otherwise or not at all.

There's also the misuse by natives, though. The answer to the question was "false" but that's a wrong answer because a fallacious argument is incorrect (ie, not neccessarily true) but isn't neccessarily false (a fallacious argument can have a true conclusion and still be fallacious).

I especially like weaving in and out of enemy formations and circling around enemies and enemy shots, but yeah, circling everywhere and for no reason is silly. Um, while everyone seems to be in the 100% kills category, I personally think "only kill when you'll get a powerup, otherwise annoy but don't destroy the enemy" is more entertaining.

I nominate "Ghoul School" on NES as both an example of a terrible game and one where you wouldn't know it's so bad from watching a TAS vs playing it yourself. Also I really like this game for no known reason. Edit: Low-G-Man is significantly less terrible but I imagine it's pretty disliked by a lot of poeple who aren't me.

How can I be trolling by saying I prefer C to C++? I didn't say it was better, or that C++ sucked, or any of that. Anyway I like it better because it translates pretty directly to machine code. Of course there are a lot of better languages than C. But I like C better than C++. So?

Java is horrible. Noone actually likes Java. C++ is better, but I prefer pure C. Actually, I prefer a bunch of other languages to C (Python, Kanren), but I like C well enough anyway.

Voting "no". 1. This is a bad choice of game. SFZ series is very good, but this SFC port is rather lackluster. The load times and lack of fluid animations really kill it. 2. I get the sense that this video could be reproduced fairly consistently by a high-level player. It doesn't exploit any glitches, it doesn't perform interesting or difficult maneuvers, etc. It's basically the same fight over and over again, with the same level 3 Super Arts being pulled out after the same single attacks.. where's the linking, the custom combos, the countering, the cancelling, breaking the game, making the fights interesting? I would dearly love for a good -glitch demonstration- or -combo demonstration- video to be made, showcasing one or multiple characters. But "completes in fastest time" should never be a goal for a fighting game.

Um, we defined the word planet. We made it up. It doesn't mean anything except what we call it. The new definition, which is stricter than the last, happens coincidentally to exclude Pluto. So what? The universe doesn't have some built in thing where "this is a planet and this isn't"... WE created the distinction.

Know what else is a theory? Gravity. If a theory is flawed, once we have something that doesn't fit it's predictions it's discarded for something better. Evolution might not be correct but it's our best guess right now (due to overwhelming evidence).

Evolution has nothing to say about the origin of earth. There are other theories for that.

The edges of the video screen correspond exactly to the edges of the NES display, exact tile boundaries. Check for example when a level ends or begins. So, it's emulated. Whether it's assisted or not I don't know.

..there's also the fact that the theory of evolution has absolutely nothign to say about the age of the universe, or the earth, or the origin of anything, or anything. There are cosmological theories for that.

Um, WHAT? Evolution only says that life changes in some random ways, and that those random changes which are beneficial are maintained, with the result that life adapts to fit its environment. It doesn't say ANYTHING about the origin of that life or about anything other than that.

..yet there is no biblical or other traditional basis for any such thing as "accept jesus into heart" or whatever you're talking about, and there is also no tradition of children so young making such decisions (ie, child baptism).

There have been significant changes in our cultures within the last century, even the last few decades, so why can such changes not have occurred in the past? Furthermore, how do you know that the intentions of the commentary writer(s) were to interpret the document as the author intended?
Whether or not those interpretations are correct, they have a significant chance of being closer considering the writers of those commentaries would be members of the same oral tradition, etc, as the author. As opposed to some English speaker from the 17th or 18th century working from KJV with no knowledge of the historical context and getting stuff wrong all over. You know.

How does that example show differentiation?
He breaks the calendar into two parts, the "days" and the "generations". Midrash says we are to interpret "days" as the six days of creation and "generations" as years from Adam, two separate calendars.

Can you give examples? This page gives examples of scholars who interpreted them literally.
Use in contemporary works (including other scripture), Midrash & Talmud, later writers of Kaballah, etc.

How does this affect how long they are?
It just means we can't expect current definitions to hold. After all, how can one have a literal 24-hour day, four days before the sun? EDIT: Also there's the whole thing about there being two creation narratives which disagree on details as a reason not to take it literally rather than as a multilayered poem describing how God went about his work.

Are there any major religions that have ever died out in the past? and why did they?
Zoroastrianism is dead (or on its last legs).
DeFender1031 wrote:
yes of course... and all those that died out were polytheistic
Untrue. There have been plenty of monotheistic or nontheistic/atheistic religions that have died out. When Confucius was around in China there was a large monotheistic cult that didn't last more than a few generations past then. Zoroastrianism as I mentioned above is monotheistic. Most of what we think today as polytheism (Greek, Roman, etc) were actually collections of cults that only revered a single regional god, not a unified pantheon.

In the first chapter of genesis, the hebrew word "yom" is translated as "day" (as in "and it was evening and it was morning and it was the first day") That is a modern translation. The actual translation is "period of time", and evening and morning can be interpreted as the separation between these "periods".
First of all, "modern" translation does not mean inferior. The books are very carefully translated from the original language (for the most part...certain original portions of the Bible may be lost) and a lot of thought is given to meaning and context. If there's a possible discrepency, there's often a footnote. I know some people who are able to read Hebrew and they assure me that it literally translates as an "evening and morning" day.
You're correct that "modern" does not always mean "inferior". But when you're looking for the intended meaning you should probably look as close to the writer as possible, for example at commentaries written within a few generations when the culture wouldn't've changed significantly since. It's also rather difficult to take something as poetic as the creation narratives and translate them literally and have it make any sort of sense.
Hyena wrote:
If you decide to not take the "six days" part literally, and assume that the order is not really important (plants existing thousands of years before the sun?) and that this and that are metaphor, then you have problems with all sorts of passages all throughout the bible that reference this and the whole thing contradicts itself.
If we are to take it as six literal days, why did Moses himself differentiate them? (Deuteronomy 32:7 Remember the ancient days; / bear in mind the years of past generations. / Ask your father and he will inform you, / your elders, and they will tell you.) Commentary from 1500+ years ago differentiates them and lcaims the creation narratives are parable. It's also discounting the use of the word elsewhere to mean an era (the day of person x, the day of our forefathers, etc). One final thing you may be missing (which is obscured in translation) is the viewpoint of the passage. The days are numbered, but they don't begin with "first day" (implying there are further days) - they begin with "day one" meaning that the first creation narrative is attempting to look FORWARD from God's view, NOT backward from man's.

Wake up. "Atheism" is a religious statement, not a religion. There are atheist religions, like secular humanism, some sects of Buddhism, etc. But there is no religion called "atheism". "evolutionism" what? As for the original topic, absolutely not all organised religions will not disappear so suddenly. Many religions have growing, not dropping, membership.
