The solution to all the hard things seems to be "put the up & down keys on the keyboard and play with three hands". Because that's the only way I can morph into the ceiling, walljump well at all, etc.

The tunnel's on the ceiling, there's not enough time to morph there. I got this same answer on GameFAQs. If you need to ahve frame-accurate playing what's the point?

I got the bombs. But how do I get back? Torizo didn't drop any health or missiles so I have 30 health and 0 missiles. I can bomb the right bridge and that gets me over to the claw thing. But how to get past the left part?

And NOW I'm stuck in a place where I need to wall-jump over spikes. And I can get like 3 or maybe 4 walljumps, but the walls are so far apart that I get like 1 or 2 tiles of height each iterationa nd always always mess up and fall on the spikes.
Can you actually show me a screenshot of this? I dont recall ever having to walljump above a spike pit with the exception of one place, where you need highjump (to which its rather easy to do after that).

What do you mean, save points don't help? They let me try again with only 2 minutes' delay instead of 10.
I eventually got past it and got to the first save point but it was really hard and stupid. Oh you have 5 missiles only so we'll force you to go through a missile door guarded by missile-only vulerable enemies with no infinitely-respawning enemies nearby to harvest for missiles!

Yeah except the pirates are immune to non-missiles? and there are spikes everywhere? and the only way out is a missile door? and there's no enemy spawner to refill on missiles or life anywhere? and there are no save points?

It was actually the Japanese version of Lazer Tag. There were games (multiple, though the first SMS one is the best by far), comics, a television series, etc.. but all of them were made to sell the toys.

ZILLION Zillion Zillion Zillion! The Fantasy Zones for SMS aren't actually that good, but of them #2 was made with the SMS in mind so it should probably be done. But I'm convinced Zillion was the only good game on the console ever.

Palace one was ridiculously easy, took no more than 30 re-records for the whole thing, including Horsehead (mostly Horsehead). I played through most of it at normal speed, even.
I have not watched your run but I believe this will invalidate its usefulness. Having myself run this game I can tell you that you lost time here already.
EDIT: Now that I actually watch it, nice job! I really like this game and this run lives up to it. You lose a few seconds early on though, with slower fighting techniques and lack of elevator boosting, and collecting EXP that you don't use for a level before you UP+A, in Death Mountain and around then.
Overall, very nice! I like it.

I played this for a few minutes, and I ended up beating about 5 or 6 bosses, but the game is really not very good. Sure, all the levels are completely changed, but there are some weird things I noticed while playing? maybe this is my imagination. But the ladder physics are weird and different. And shots don't travel to the edge of the screen. Bosses are either really easy and have silly patterns or are... well, actually, just the former. But stage enemies are positioned to make cheap kills rather than letting you advance in the stage without memorising it.
EDIT: Also, nice job on porting so much music from other games and consoles.. but really some of it could stand to be improved beyond the base there. THere are incorrect melody lines, etc..
