They cannot. Only certain weapons can crit (including katana and, umm, arrows?)

What's the max combo you can get abusing savestates and frame advance? I haven't tried yet but people on GameFAQs are claiming natural 16-hits. I did a 14-hit once. EDIT: Of course with Flint it's probably best to use his crit-or-miss technique instead of comboing, and manipualting it to always hit for 150+ damage. Or at least use his offense booster so the comboed hits will be doing better than single-digit. For chapter 1 at least (I'm in chapter 2).

Well Kaitou and I are (maybe) going to go back after we beat it and write a walkthrough / translation guide. I still really don't understand the combo system even after putting enemies to sleep to hear their heartbeat (which is apparently the beat to combo). But it seems like it could be abused to defeat enemies without them ever getting a turn for a TAS.

It only freezes in NESticle. More accurate emulators like FCEU run the unmodified prototype without difficulty. .....but still, what's the deal with combos in Mother 3 !?

Now it's proabbly too soon for a run of this. But I would dearly love for someone to figure out how the battle system works (comboing).

Why do this in that abomination and not in a good Puyo Puyo game?

I love this game! A lot of it gets really tricky later, and seeing an effortless-looking 100% capture of the athletic levels would be really nice (even though you could skip them..)

What's wrong with culture here? Anyway I'm Hessian German or Pennsylvanian or something like that. Some crazy heavy German influence in my history and the town I grew up yet the dominant language (aside from English) was French... whatever.

???? (thread creator takes damage equal to caster's lost HP, which is unfortunately some low number I don't really care to make up)

if we were to take off every single movie that could be significantly (over 5 seconds) improved on this site there wouldn't be many left
We are already doing that. Slowly, game-by-game, replacing them with versions believed to be as optimal as current knowledge lets us, within tolerance for game length and ease of manipulation. There's no reason to obsolete a movie with a still-bad version when someone could just obsolete it with a good version and we'd have one less AVI floating around.

魂斗羅 魂 - kon 斗 - to 羅 - ra Also the reason the Japanese version is better in every way is because it contains an extra chip in it. Konami did that for a lot of games.

Why are you reading the (wrong) text? Look at the title screens. The Japanese version was released first.

Also, should I get the Leg and Head parts? They're useless, even if it isn't a speedrun. I'm not going to skip the Body or Arm parts.
Um what? for X or for Zero? Anyway why would you need the Body? and does the time saved for getting Zero Final actually make up for the time wasted collecting it? The point of Zero's Leg and Head parts are so you can get X's Arm part without X's Head part. I guess that doesn't matter much if it's not in Extreme Mode.

No, it's written in Japanese and it's really Contra. http://www.thundercross.freeserve.co.uk/html/gryzor.htm (here you can see the three title screens of the arcade version.. the Japanese is clearly "KONTORA") Gryzor is the European name for the games that weren't censored to add robots. So the Spectrum, C64, Arcade versions are Gryzor, and the NES version is Probotector. In Japan the series is Contra.

You could always just buy the games. With the magic of easily readable media you can emulate the console without pirating the software you run. I know it's really a strange concept for you.

That's not a desync. For some reason the Zero levels are played as if the goal of the movie is 100% completion rather than getting only the stuff for Zero that lets you get the Arm part for X.

Yes, that's exactly what I did.
This is a minor English grammar thing.

You have the ability to confirm this through testing, but you have not yet done this, is what this means. Since you have already confirmed this then it should be written, "I have confirmed that it really is ..."

There could be a lot of things to cause it but in most games with errors like this where you suddenly jump to the maximum possibe value it's because you somehow got negative (like in Simcity, Rockman X8, Final Fantasy 4 & 5, etc)... so the only way I could think of is EXP-draining enemies, unless you can somehow let it give you a level when you don't have enough EXP for it.

It sounds to me like an overflow error. I dont remeber if the Mahgo drain EXP or if there's some other monster there which does but it sounds like he got hit for a drain while he was low or empty but that it happened at the same time as the transition? bypassing the check to see if his EXP was 0? so when the value hit negative it instead went as positive as possible. EDIT: Some random things levelling up plus 6 extra lives at 9000 each makes it sound like he got 65535 EXP or thereabouts, which would definitely point to an overflow error.
