I don't understand the objection based on game size... with disc-based systems in my opinion emulation becomes a lot easier to do legally, using actual game discs. If you don't have the game to play the input file... buy it, or download the AVI.

Recording input rather than output seems a little problematic to me since it's a disc-based system... how do you account for small differences in disc access time?

Umm... Sanskrit is a dead language because there are no native speakers. That doesn't mean people don't teach it. Or that it's not useful.

The short version of this tirade would be that Greek is a slowly dying language [... Y]ou will never find a use for this language unless you want to sound like you are always angry or confused. Also, here is to hoping that Greek will go the way of Sanscrit within the next 100 years.
There are still reasons to learn Greek (or at least older forms of it - study of Greek writings for example). And anyway what's your beef with Sanskrit? That's near the top of my own languages-to-learn list.

I absolutely do not read or understand Jacobian English with anything near fluency. I think I can even read Middle English easier than Jacobian - that way it has more French in it. (I say because I am struggling through the Book of Mormon right now and not really enjoying myself.. do they really want me to join their sect if they can't give me a text I can actually read?)

I think it is more "Tell me what languages you speak" than "Teach me to speak Japanese".....

Occassionally an English-Finnish dictionary is helpful too, because of the massively huge vocabulary in English.
It really is so.

"Armory locker key" A key which opens the firearms locker at the Armory. "Weapons box key" A key with an unusual shape. You can see the UMBRELLA mark on the plate...

Why would there be a category for "non-assisted" on a site about tools-assisted movies? There already exist sites which do not use tools. We don't want to confuse the issue by mixing them here. Please use SDA and support them.

Why don't you try the Japanese version (Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru) and see if you like it better? In my opinion it had a much less silly story and better graphics, but gameplay is unchanged.

As long as we're re-evaluating the names of things, I'd still like to suggest the same I always do: "demonstration" or "tool-assisted demonstration". NOT using the term "speedrun" lessens the chance of confusion between the two, and USING the term "demonstration" shows that it isn't meant for any sort of competition or records, even if such a demonstration is for "fastest time possible".

The term "tool-asisted speedrun" or "tool-assisted demo" has been around since the days of DooM speedruns, where alterations t the game or interface to allow for slowdown / rerecording / seeing through walls / etc were allowed to get "theoretical" best times. It would be rather silly to create a new term when the one which already exists has been used for some 5, 10 years and is quite easily explained to whoever doesn't already know what it is. As you say, a traditional speedrun and a tool-assisted speedrun are two entirely different things. The former tests the player's skill. The latter tests the game's limits.

I'm also pretty sure this topic was made before but I can't find it. Anyway all the ROMs I found of it were technical demos. Nothing actually playable in any meaningful sense. I think it's one of those things where someone on Futaba had the idea and made a screenshot, and other people ran with it, and then some group decided to actually do it but hasn't yet. Edit: Found it.

MythBusters did a show on it once. They got it to happen at extremely high speeds - the spin speed made the CD wobble past its structural limit and it shattered.

<NesVideoAgent> New topic by xebra (OT: What is this girl saying?): http://tasvideos.org/forum/t/3045 <Boco_XLVII> ..what was the point of that? <BagOfMagicFood> everything <BagOfMagicFood> if we solve that mystery, the rest will fall <Boco_XLVII> + why the Chinese / Japanese wondering if the filename says "korean" in it? <BagOfMagicFood> That's the secret of the puzzle. <Boco_XLVII> I thought the secret to the puzzle was why she bothered to wear clothes at all. <BagOfMagicFood> yeah <BagOfMagicFood> that's part of it

Oh. Didn't know that. But is it used by you people than? Or will it be any help?
Yes, it will be an extreme help in demonstrating what can/cannot affect the RNG, as well as in discovering how to let the bot evaluate a path. Learning what happens during room transition, how to see enemy health, etc would be nice. mfried above has already given many useful locations regarding bombs, health, and other stuff, but there's still a lot more work to be done. (though apparently not by xebra because whenever I mention it to him he just calls everyone an idiot and stupid and worthless and etc)

Still.. Woulden't this be a good oportunity to implant debuggers in the emulators? Sort of the cheat finder in Zsnes?
The functionality exists in FCEU already and acts in the same way as zSNES's, plus allowing full HEX viewing/editing of the memory contents.

..but he also thinks "push the 'B' button repeatedly" and "walk into a wall" are viable strategies for some reason, instead of behaviours to be avoided (and those paths containing them to be purged immediately).
