Yes, and a whole lot of other things besides before talking about "the main character is a cookie that's HILARIOUS".

Yes, no thanks to you. The movement engine is done except for one annoying bug I want to squish before I move to animation.

Someone else can make a game about a giant cookie or about 3D complex graphics or about in-game tools. I'll make a quick Rockman clone and release the source like within a week and whatever you guys want to do with it, fine. It won't be good but "Rockman clone" gives more information than "he should fight the video game characters~!" (which doesn't say anything like "how does the character move?" by which I mean "how fast / agile is the character, are there multiple movement options, can e jump and if so how high, is there double jumping, is there walljumping, etc" nor "what challenges should the player face?" by which I mean "is it possible to die or does 'getting hit' only slow you down, if you can die can you take damage or is it one-hit-kill, is the game mostly about avoiding instadeath traps or about navigating an obstacle course or about dealing with enemies, can the character even attack, etc")

5, 9, 3, 6, 4, 2, 1, but you probably won't like 5 or 9 without the other games as context. I haven't played enough 8 to rank it. I don't like 7. 10 was fun but I only played 10 hours. I've only seen but not played 12. Tactics and Tactics Advance are both fun but I cant really call either good or worthy of playing (maybe PSP FFT is) after playing Disgaea series.

Think simpler. "how should the character move?" "what kinds of challenges does the player face?" Things like whether the map will be in discrete levels or in one large map doesn't really matter at the basic level of design that I'd like to prototype out as soon as possible.

Probably the best kind of game to do would be a platformer. If nobody cares about good graphics (or someone can supply graphics) I wouldn't mind making a platformer based on community design specs to practice my programming skill. It'd be nice to see a lot of brainstorming as to interface, abilities of the character, the kinds of levels that should be possible, and the like. I'd probably code it in Python with an easy (external) map editor (that produces XML files) so it can be extended by even people who can't program, but without a solid game engine (which means good physics, good abilities for a character, and good kinds of things to be in the game) even good maps are useless. So, no promises, but I've been wanting to try making a platformer for a while, and it's not actually that hard. Ideas?

Yes, that was the inspiration. Kayin played that and wanted to make a game like it but actually good, so he made this. EDIT: My progress, in spoiler text. So far I've been doing both the upper and lower route. I've beat the first boss on each and am stuck in the Makaimura section of the upper path and the Bionic Commando section of the lower path. I know about the even lower path but I haven't gone there yet. Spoiler free summary: I'm just stuck on places where I can't get through spikes.. it's my own fault.

So this is a game a friend of a friend made. It's a very challenging platformer and quite a lot of fun. But when I say very challenging - I mean very challenging. It took me the better part of an hour to get through the first 2 rooms. Luckily save points come very often and there are multiple routes, so if something is very-too-hard when first encountered, you can play some other route and try a different very-too-hard room. You can get the game at http://kayin.pyoko.org/iwbtg/index.php If you want to 'try before you buy' there's a playthrough of Very Hard mode on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvL3Vxn1g-8 Be warned: this game is very prone to spoilers, and watching this run (though very entertianing) will kill about half the entertainment of playing. So I suggest you only watch a few minutes of it to see if the game's worth your time, if you plan on playing. Oh and it's on Very Hard mode but the only difference between the difficulties is the number and position of save points - the easiest difficulty has about one per screen (and it's still very difficult, just less frustrating). So try it out, post your progress, and use this thread to announce your bid for the position of The Guy! Edit: to avoid spoilers, try using color tags (the two colors are EFEFEF for odd posts and DEE3E7 for even ones) to hide names of bosses, solutions of particular rooms, etc.

IOSYS does serious remixes too (like this one, also from Touhou 7, and this one from Touhou 9.5) too, it's just their hyper-energetic comedy ones that are famous.. Anyway the series is great, not just the music. If you like bullet hell shooters, I really incredibly cannot reccomend higher than this series, especially 7 (Perfect Cherry Blossom), 10 (Mountain of Faith), and 9.5 (Shoot the Bullet).

Just now I stopped liking the song. Why do fans (mainly fans of anime) have to be so weird?
The Touhou 8 single is about how one character's bullets look like suppositories, if that helps.

Don't mind me asking, but WTF is with the music (?) in the backround?
It's "Marisa Stole the Precious Thing", the single from IOSYS's Touhou 7 remix album. Here is a flash animation promo video featuring the single. The song itself is about Alice Margatroid (3rd stage boss) falling in love with Marisa (one of the playable characters) and is a remix of Alice's boss music from Touhou 7. They're rival magicians who both live in the Forest of Magic so the fans created a tsundere relationship between them.

I definitely like the original a lot better than every remix of it I've heard... "why why why why don't I miss you a lot, forever?"

No, but there's still Goonies II which (as the screenshot depicted, last I remembered) features a topless loli mermaid.

I have very vague memories of watching that as a child. It's something about Mark Twain wanting to become immortal, or he accidentally became immortal and wanted to die, or something, I don't know, and he wants to merge with a comet. It never made any sense but then again I saw it when I was like 4 or 5.

for the record, my point was that if the definition of "god" is "a thing that created everything", then by definition, god, if it existed, created itself, and consequently i find the existence of a god, by that definition, to be implausible.
Semantics. Change that to "God is what happens when you take 'everything' and subtract 'the universe' and it is 'the universe' that God created".

then you don't believe in such a "god", because "god", by that definition, as i said, would have created itself.
Not to defend nfq here, but I don't believe that's accurate. If such a god also created or otherwise formed time (eg, before the creation there were no dimensions) then there's no reason to posit causality before the creation event and no need for such a being to have a creator at all.
