Scrolling through menus is bad. So I'm changing Cursor mode to Memory, which should be done on the first menu access. Also, changing Lenna from Black Mage is bad, as she doesn't really help in the battle VS Siren + the next battle requires Blizzard (because UndeadRusk doesn't appear except inside a ship, which is too far to walk) + the battle after that requires a rod break. ..and speaking of Blizzard, that needs to be bought at the first magic shop for another 150 gil. So I am doing: changing to Memory changing Lenna back to Black Mage buying Blizzard, getting Antidote & Ice Rod killing Tatu x2 to get to 3/3/3/4 climbing the mountain killing Magisa (see what I mean by proof-of-concept video? I'm making all of the mistakes now so the final version uses the optimum strategy :-þ )

Two more bosses. 37 minutes total. There's 2000 gil in the basement of Walse Castle, but is it worth it to walk all the way there? But I don't know where else to get the money that would be faster.

Why must Butz be kept at level 2?
You'll see in a little bit. I'm about 32 minutes in and the reason should be apparent around 36 minutes or so.

And hows it going so far? I feel kinda bad because I don't remember this.. but where is Tule? Have you been at the pirates? Killed the siren? And I will worship you for sure if you finish this ;) So I really hope you do. Good luck lady!
Tule is the first town. After the pirates and before the Siren. And this is just a proof-of-concept video.. I'm sure someone with more patience and skill at luck manipulation can do it better ^_^;; I'm just showing a path and testing possibilities.

In the box the Goblin is alone, which = 10 EXP divided amoung 3 participants, levels 2/2/2/3 result. In a random encounter the Goblin will have two other Goblins (= 30 EXP) or two Killer Bees (= 40 EXP) divided amoung 4 participants, levels 3/2/2/3 result. Though now I wonder if I can do that instead of the battle with the Steel Bats in the cave and still keep Butz at level 2... EDIT: Yes. 2 Killer Bees + Goblin = 10 EXP each, and 10 is exactly what is required for level 2. 3 Steel Bats + Goblin = 12 EXP each for Butz, Lenna, Galuf and 0 EXP for Faris. So in the final run, a random battle outside Tule will be fought instead of the Steel Bats and the lengthy sequence required for the monster-in-a-box.

To get Goblin Punch and levels 2/2/2/3. You'll see why. Actually I'm not doing anyhting important today so I'll continue until it becomes blaringly obvious.

Faster runs have been rejected before for having less entertainment value. <-- has not seen this one and therefore did not vote

You can get a better keyboard, use different non-conflicting keys, or map multiple functions to a single key.

I need 2775 gil, short-term. I spend 150 in Tule and the rest in Karnak. Right now I have 640 (and a Phoenix Down). What's the best way to raise the rest? Which chests should I pick up and which should I ignore? And should I actually steal Ethers or Mythril Swords or not waste time doing that? Updated movie will be posted in a few minutes. EDIT: First 25 minutes. Ends in mid-plot-point because I wanted it to be exactly 25 minutes for some reason.

This is really annoying. Wingraptor defends as his 3rd action. That means I can get 8 attacks in beforehand. Butz and Galuf do a max of 32 damage (Broadsword has attack 15, so the damage is 30 or 32). Lenna does a max of 20 (Knife has attack 7, so the damage is 14, 16, 18, or 20). Faris does a max of 34 (Dagger has attack 14, so the damage is 28, 30, 32, or 34). None of these weapons can crit (only barehands, katana, and bows can crit). That means I can do 236 damage before he transforms. He has 250 HP. (incidentally, barehands here don't help. They do 6 damage, 2 attacks, so 12 damage. Crit doubles this, so a double crit is 24 damage. Only Lenna can improve on this, and only by 8 damage, still leaving me 6 damage shy) I'm going to mess with battle speed settings and see if the algorithms guide lies about stuff and I can get three attacks with Faris before he transforms. Barring that this fight will be 6 rounds long instead of 2 and for no good reason. Edit: Algorithms guide lies. Like in FF6, battle speed affects how often enemies take turns. So I switch to 6 and this fight is fine. In the final version the battle speed will go to 6 and the message speed to 1 in the first menu access.

Hahaha... instead of working on this I just played GBA for like 10 hours. I noticed some of my save files were missing so I played Klonoa to perfection and then played 5 or 6 hours of CastleVania: Concerto of Midnight Sun. I'll do a quick update on this tonight^W tomorrow and get at least to the first Jobs.

Yeah, there's lots of room for improvement. (edit: first battle can be improved by some frames, third battle's ending can be improved, the battle with the bats can have Lenna defend (no switching character initiative in this game), taking more direct routes, etc). I'm not worried about that much because it can be ironed out later. After tomorrow I'll be without internet access for a few days so I'll work on it on my laptop during that time. The fight with the bats is to get EXP enough so that the fight with the goblins (in a while) will pump levels to 2/2/2/3. Then another fight will get 3/3/3/4 and then killing Iron Claw and his entourage will get 5/4/4/5, which is exactly right to learn L5 Death without wasting time killing Wild Naks. The only problem with this is half of the reason for the Naks is money for the rods to kill Iron Claw.. there's 2000 gil in Karnak that can be grabbed on the way out, but meanwhile I need 4 Ice Rods before then and opnly have the money for two. So in the ship graveyard I'll steal some Ethers. That combined with grabbing a few chests means I can sell off enough to get the Rods to kill Iron Claw and Liquid Flame and then get more with the 2k gil for Ifrit, and from there I can just use Ninja techniques (which cost like 200 gil instead of 700). Is playing the pianos worth it?

http://www.geocities.com/boco_xlvii/ff5movie.zip The first ~17 minutes. It can already be improved by a few seconds using optimisation and possibly more if the random battle algorithms were known... This is just the plot before the first dungeon. And now, off to class...

I will make a low-precision demo video of the first world, or at least most of it. From there, if major strategies lead to more optimisation, good, if strategies for the second world are developed (aside from just following a LLG guide), good, etc., etc..

I noticed different pieces based on different movements and rotations. Anyway, I didn't like how it looked so I never submitted it anyway, and I didn't go beyond maxing the score, so..

That WAS the luck manipulation, and was the same way I did it in my (unpublished) Tetris run. Anyway, I enjoyed this video as it showed something I've wondered for a long time and actually made a run myself to test - what happens when various limits in the game are exceeded. It's not polished enough to be published, sure, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Gomoku is a pretty fun game but I prefer Pente. Player 1 has a less obvious advantage and you can't just put your pieces anywhere or they'll be captured.

I coded an AI for Tic-Tac-Toe on my Ti-86 that never loses. But instead of giving you its strategy, I'll give you the suboptimal strategy: http://plaza.ufl.edu/aycock/ttt.pdf There is a 100%-effective not-losing strategy, and if your opponent doesn't know it, it translates into about a 70% win rate.

No, you can wait for the enemy to unfreeze and get boosted up by the damage instead.

She's called Peach in Japan. Toad is Kinopio. Bowser is Koopa. Etc. Ninty decided to use the name Peach in the US around the time of Super Mario 64.
