I'm looking for someone with a Flash Linker Advance or other capability for dumping the ROMs of GBA games. I have a pirate game called "Rockman & Crystal" on packaging and "Battle Network Rockman Crystal" on its title screen. I'm fairly sure that this game has never been dumped, or if it has, the ROM was never released. I'm willing to send my copy out to someone with a ROM dumper if they can guarantee its safe return after a working image has been taken. EDIT: Some pictures of the packaging.. http://weirdo513.org/~boco/test%20004.jpg http://weirdo513.org/~boco/test%20005.jpg

And is there any particular reason you didn't use it against the final Sigma robot?
I have had mixed feedback from people concerning Sigma's Final Form and the hadouken. I and many other assume it is impossible because any shot that isn't the level-3 charge shot or the Rolling Shiled "pings". And indeed, if you test the hadouken against him, it will "ping" just like it does on metools. But I have heard at least one person claim that with the correct timing and abuse of his claw-swipe attack, you can get the height neccessary to KO him in one shot with it. If it is possible to do, it is still faster to kill him with Rolling Shield unless you can manipulate his attack pattern to do the claw swipe to the neccessary height quickly.

I know this game well. There's no point in having a gazillion re-records for a game one knows well.
You miss shots. Namely, you attempt to hit Storm Eagleed II with the Hadouken three times. You have rerecord. Hit on the earliest possible frame. Never miss. DOn't waste so much time. Don't rely on non-optimal weapons.

All I've seen you do is talk. Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and make an attempt yourself, if you're so damn good!
Give me a target time and tell me whether I can use rerecords. I'd prefer to do 100% completion (which may or may not include Hadouken, because I don't know if it's actually faster to get or not..and without rerecords, I take too much damage for it to be useful anyway). I can get sub-50 without rerecord or slowdown. I know one person who has claimed a just-above-42 no-damage 100% without rerecord or slowdown, and I've seen one 43:20-ish no-damage 100% without rerecord or slowdown. I'm not good enough to perform a no-damage run unassisted. But I will gladly post a nonassisted 100% run if you'd like, or I can do an assisted one to show you closer to optimal.

Invoker, I just watched your latest submission. What are you trying to accomplish? What is supposed to be impressive about this run? It is 100% collection and it is no-damage. But that can be done - and done better - by a human player, non-assisted. You seemed to have used about 326 rerecords too many in making this movie if that was your intent. Or if you were after perfection, then why are so many mistakes and things that cost time in this movie? You have slowdown and rerecord.. use it. If you want perfection, I think you have used about 10000 rerecords too less. There is no room here for your halfhearted attempt.

Everything appears optimal.
I disagree. It appears that a few frames (probably no more than 5 or 10, most definitely not a whole second) are lost on Icy Penguigo II. But I believe this apparent delay is to keep him from using his slide attack, so it's actually faster even if there appears to be room for improvement. But really, this is the greatest time attack I've ever seen.

This is the single greatest tools-assisted run of any game I have ever seen.

I haven't played the game but it seems akin to playing FF5 but all your characters start with all jobs Mastered. In which case it would be interestig to see a low-level run played that way.. but I'd rather see a low-level run played where the player has to level Job without levelling characters. So I don't think a maxxed out NewGame+ would be interesting here just like I don't think it would be interesting in the Chrono series.

The current speedrun FAQ has a completion time of under-10. Under-8 is very possible. I wonder what Rodrigo's time is?

Atma Weapon does damage based on HP, so in a speedrun (= low levels) it's useless.

The low-level record as far as I know is a mixture of 6s, 7s, and 8s. I don't know how many party members were used in WoR. As far as the time record, I don't know about what the record is but if you're not in the WoR by 5:30 you're too slow. Twin Galaxies will have a record soon. It was sent in a few weeks ago by Rodrigo and is pending review.

By the way, if anyone wants to, speed runs to each door in each Field would be nice (just save the run or runs you make and post your SRM file somewhere), both tool-assisted and clean. Meanwhile, I'll get back to adding Field info. Does anyone need an instructions sheet? Like, what all the menus do and stuff? I could drop that on the Wiki pretty quick if its needed.

Well, let's actually see here: Mario, Starfox, Zelda, Zelda, Blast Corps, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Yoshi's Story(shhh), DK64(shhh x 2), ummm, Mischief Makers... yeah, I'm running out of ideas.
Add those to Goemon, Get Force Gemini, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Kirby, both Castlevanias, Rockman Dash, Puyo Puyo Sun, and Ogre Battle, and those are all the games that I'll admit exist. And that makes 20, but it includes less than stellar games (Kirby 64, both Castlevanias, Get Force Gemini) and games that have been or will be released on other consoles (Mario 64, both Zeldas, Yoshi's Story, Puyo Puyo Sun, and Rockman Dash).

That's kind of depressing if less than 5% of a console's games are actually playable.

To play what games? I mean, there are only like 15 games for the N64 and that's even if you count stuff like Jet Force Gemini.

It's an unimpressive attack of the game (but better than the one that exists for the overseas version at least). I'm making another but it'll be a while.

Even if Sega CD games end up working, I doubt you'll have much success in rerecording them without desyncing, the way I understand rerecording to be implemented at least.

If you want DooM but with free look and jump and in 3D and with shin graphical effects.. play Serious Sam. If you want all the gameplay with none of the hype, play Rise of the Triad. Seriously.

Hm, really? So I guess those damage numbers only count for normal enemies and not for bosses. Charging to level 1 takes very little time at all, so it can be done inside the boss's recovery time. So level 1 damage over recovery time > level 2 damage over charge time ? level 1 : level 2. (that is, using the numbers 1 and 3, it's faster to use level 1 charge iff recovery time is 1/3 or less of charge time.. basic logic)

Has it been proven that using the fully charged bolts on bosses is more time efficient than using the green bolts?
If I recall correctly..: Level 0 charge (normal shot) is 1 damage normal, 2 when dashing, and is "eaten" when it deals damage. Level 1 charge (green bolt) is also 1 damage normal, 2 when dashing. The difference is that if it kills a target it keeps going, so a single bolt can kill multiple targets. Level 2 charge (blue blast) is 3 damage normal, 4 when dashing, and continues if it kills. Level 3 charge (pink blast) is four shots (one backward, three forward), all with the same properties as the Level 2 charge. But it also penetrates shields.

P.S. Some bosses are weaker to X-buster than others. Chill Pengiun takes more damage from busters than Storm Eagle. A green bolt on Storm Eagle takes off 1, while it takes off 2 on Chill Pengiun. At least, that's how I remember it, anyway...
You were maybe dashing at the time. It gives a +1 bonus.

It's just that I'm familiar with the game so I can see things people might miss. It also kind of bothers me if people make assumptions (like that Storm Tornado is the fastest weapon to kill everything because it's multi-hit) and don't test other possibilities (both runners used Storm Tornado against Anglerge when I'm pretty sure Electric Spark is faster). Right now I'm wondering if it's faster to go the upper path (through the pipe and over the place with Dig Labour) in Burnin' Noumander's level.. if it doesn't lose time it would at least be more interesting because it shows off another glitch in the game.

Those look like the regular old Ultimate Doom / Doom II 1.666 to me. Maybe they're glDoom or some other update, but I think they're the original graphics.

Concerning Frenom's video.. Awakening Road, Spark Mandriller's level, Armor Armage's level, and especially Launcher Octopuld's level can be improved. Armor Armage and Sting Chameleao fights can be more interesting without losing time. There are missed shots against Launcher Octopuld II and Bospider. Lambda Bambda can be improved. D-REX can be improved. There is a total of ONE location (out of the many you used) where you can't do without charged Chameleon Sting without losing time. Only use it there. ..and stop relying on Storm Tornado so much. Remember that dashing gives you a +1 bonus to the X-Buster, which means double damage for uncharged shots.

Or was he ever working for Dr. Wily? The story of the third game was never very clear to me.
He worked for Wily in 3 and 4, which is why Wily says that he was betrayed at the end of 4 and frames Blues in 5. He only worked for Wily because Wily repaired him, and once Wily put a human in harm's way (Kalinka) he split.

Some sites I've read that claim to have the official original story say that Mega/RockMan's gun has always been called the Mega/Rock Buster, but in Mega/Rock Man 4, it was upgraded to the Neo Rock Buster, hence its new charge-up capabilities.
This is true. The "P" is for Player. Note that in the first two games, the intial is the name of the Robot Master that the weapon came from and has nothing to do with the weapon's name. For example, Leaf Shield -> W... that doesn't mean the weapon's name is Wood something.
