Do you realise how long it takes for that page to load on 56k? It would be nice if there was a news-only page, or if the site updates were advertised here, or, or or.. ..but there's no reason to change it now if a site overhaul is still in the works.

Yes, Nintendo claims that it is illegal to make backups. But then they say that your statutory rights hold, which contradicts those statements (which are made only to scare people). So it's the equivalent of not saying anything at all, but less-knowledgable wannabe pirates get scared off by it.

Even if you did own the games, it is illegal to download ROMs. You can only make use of backups that you make yourself.

You can also turn off the layer that the darkness is on, usually.

So when will NesVideo Agent start speed running NES games instead of just the forums?

Whoah, all of those things are in this run? No wonder it's so long.. if you fix the first, you shave about 3 minutes off (you get through Parapa much faster because of your higher level + Fairy spell), and another 1½-2½ minutes for the Candle and maybe 4 or 5 for the Cross (it's waaay out of the way).. the Spell spell and Magical Key don't take much time (about a minute) but aren't needed if you budget your magic right (you'd only get the key for Three-Eyed Rock, which only has two doors that you need to cross). If all that stuff is fixed you'll beat my time like I predicted a NES-version should. But if you're getting into random encounters and it's not to avoid a spiked tile.. then that's even more time you can shave off.

Do you have the VMV available for download anywhere? I'm on 56k dialup for now but I'd like to see this run so I can tell you what to improve. You really should have a faster time than me. You say you can't avoid random battles? Believe me.. you can. It took almost as many rerecords to do that as it did to do the blind fighting, especially in Death Valley. Try using the directions in a different order, or staying still for a few frames, or going a tile or two out of the way, etc.. Also, if you time it perfectly you can walk through a monster if it's moving towards you and doesn't change direction. And you didn't use Fairy for every door? Well.. it's okay to pick up keys if they are on the path, but otherwise you should concentrate on levelling Magic. And remember that when you seal a statue, you get all the EXP needed to reach the next level.. it doesn't mean you have to spend it on that! Level one stat up really high, then level your other stats with the 'runoff' from that stat for quicker levelling. I really do need to see it to tell you what you can improve (or learn what I can improve from watching it).

Any word on this? I have been checking every day for it.
Every day? ^_^;;; Umm... it'll be done.. by the end of July maybe? I don't have much time to work on it ^_^;;;; It's not very far along at all yet but it's a lot improved already. I still haven't tested to see if the fall-through-ceilings glitch is useful.. and I'm not using the negative-edge glitches (even though there are already times in this version where I walk through monsters on the overworld without getting an encounter because of perfect timing). If someone else wants to make a good one before then, they ca, and if my version beats it (once it's finally done) then I guess it will be worth the wait.. I'm sorry for picking such a popular game and then working so slowly! ^_^;;;;; Next time I'll stick to obscure CAPCOM titles no-one remembers...

Ah - is Cities and Knights any good? I've heard a lot of people say it's fun, but.. I have two copies of the board game for bigger multipayer games (the 5-6 expansion sucks).. ^_^

Don't you mean time attack? I don't see why you would need a re-record for a speed run.
Not everyone uses that convention. I prefer the more traditional definition of time attack - an optimised run of a portion of a game, such as a single level.

You can't really do a not-for-profit service like burning these onto VCD/DVD and sending them out on a service like eBay. Auction != not-for-profit. I don't think anyone is opposed to someone setting up such a service, where the VCDs/DVDs are made and shipped at-cost, IE no auctions and no profit. It'd just be an alternative way of distribution. Leave eBay out of it.

"size" is what you want. "size on disk" is adjusted up to the cluster size (the cluster is the sallest part of the disk that can be taken up by a file, so all files are in increments of that size) or down if the disk is compressed.

Absolutely nothing. Bit rating ceased to matter after about 32. The performance bottleneck is elsewhere.

...wow. That was amazing. Usually, when I see a run of something like Metroid or ROckman I think that that's how it would look if the story really happened, if this person actually singlehandedly stopped this army. In this video, it's too good for me to blame it on Rad Spencer, Super Joe, Destroyer-3, and Hal. The wire was used waay to precisely.. this is a true masterpiece of superhuman achievement ^_^

The "bit-rating" is how much information the processor can handle at once. This is how it breaks down, size and speed-wise. The 'bit-rating' is the size of your mouth. The clockspeed is how fast you chew. Cache is food on your plate. RAM is food in the fridge. ..and the disk is food at the market. (for cartridges, this is the corner store - small but close by - and for CDs or DVDs, this is the mega-mart downtown - great selection and great prices, but it takes a while to get there and get what you want). Modern consoles, as far as I know, are 128-bit, as are high-end computers. But after 32 or so, the bit rating ceased to matter. We're at the point in game technology that we can do anything with what we have and no-one will notice improvements unles we improve something else - the TV, the cables connecting the console to TV, or some other input/output aside from TV and speakers with a controller.

Why not this? "[gamename] [purpose of video] Run by [author] [other details, IE game time] This video was created as a compilation of the best parts of [rerecord count] runs, but is itself a continuous play. There are no video edits or cheat codes used. [why/how page]"

Zelda 2, US version, crashes in Death Mountain. There may be a way to avoid that, but the fastest route is blocked.

So would running a contet based on the results of the polls. Or do you think the influence on people to vote not for what they believe to be better but that they believe to be more popular because that's how they filled out their contest bracket is small?
