It's a level-based shooting game (and a very, very good one) kind of superficially similar to Space Invaders.

If you want a high-level challenge, there's always FirebrandX's Zelda Challenge. Basically: You must complete the game with the minimum number of items possible, and you must also reveal every room in every dungeon and kill every boss and miniboss (except Ganon).

Do you have the same version of VirtuaNES that the videos were recorded on? You should see a warning message when laoding the video if you don't.

They probably store in very similar formats after the headers are stripped. So it'd be easy to test with a game that doesn't have much randomness (Rockman).

You can't. The emulators are different, so the way they generate random numbers is different, so they're not compatible. The inputs would be the same but the video would 'break' in many games.

There are quite a few game-breaking glitches in Joust. I beat your score but the game refused to continue OR let me suicide..

The NES version was unliscensed and released by American Game Cartridges, Inc. The levels played in reverse order from the arcade. The graphics were horrible and many animations were missing. Only one of the levels was even close to intact vs its arcade counterpart.

If your gamepad supports keyboard emulation, simply map the "POV Hat" positions to something like 8624 on the numpad, then use those.

The only real mentionings of the NES was talking about the Metroid run at 37 minutes (although we have seen faster, but sadly, the method used is not allowed)
TG now allows bypassing the minibosses. The best run with minibosses was a bit over 32 minutes.

No ending that I know of, and I've been in levels numbering in the hundreds.

I can teach you how to fix your NESes, assuming you have the old standard front-loading kind that break in the way I think yours are broken.

You either have the wrong emulator (unlikely) or the wrong ROM (I'm pretty sure Bisqwit used one of the PAL versions).

That's not true. GIF's colour palette is entirely customisable. It's size can be 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 entries.
Oh, okay. Sorry. I thought there were 216 hard-coded entries for "web safe" colors or something absurd like that.

That's another advantage PNG has. GIF can only store 40 custom-defined colors. PNG's entire pallete is customisable for 256 or less colors.

To continue recording, load the movie you'll be recording with. Now watch it, and make a quicksave at the point you wish to begin rerecording / extending the recording, then load sometime before the movie ends. If you plan on stopping and coming back later, let the movie record a second or three of 'dead air' to give you time to load the quicksave you make when you come back to it later.

There were only two things I liked the 17:06 better than yours on.. you don't kill cyborgs as quickly or as stylistic as he, and when he's grappling upwards he often misses the platform and grabs it on the wire's way back down (which I think looks cooler, but that's personal style preference).

Better PNG than GIF. It not only has better compression and doesn't degrade quality (by mapping the colors to an arbitrary 256-color pallete), but it's free. http://www.burnallgifs.org/

The run Bisqwit just posted is 17:11. It's usually faster than the 17:06 run, but I think it loses a lot of time fighting in convoys. Pay attention to the Japanese route.. it minimises convoy scenes. In particular, 5 -> 6 -> 14 -> 3 -> 8 is faster than 5 -> 3 -> 6 -> 14 -> 8, despite having more travel idstance, because it avoids convoys.

The topic is here. The AVI won't be made at least until I finish the next version of the movie. The one that's up can be improved quite a bit (minor optimisations, no EXP farming, UP+A, keys, etc).

Doesn't look like it to me...... http://www.rockmanvortex.com/rrc/charg/dwn6-7/dwn42.html
Okay, fine :-þ In the manga, she's female, but in the English version of Power Fighters, Dr. Light uses "he". The quote in R&F doesn't use exclusively male speech (and uses the same speech pattern as she does in the manga), so I figured since the R&F profiles canonised a lot of the manga, that would come too. If you don't think so, then don't think so. Not like it matters ^_^;; EDIT: Here's what ROCKMAN'S BIBLE (currently RockmanFreak.net) has to say about it:
ちなみに池原しげと先生のマンガではナイトマンに恋する女性キャラ(!)として描かれていた。 しかも長いブロンドをもつ美人(?)だった。 ただしパワーファイターズの声などからも分かるとおり、公式設定ではれっきとした男性。
That is to say, loosely: "By the way, in Ikehara Shigeto's manga, [Centaurman] was drawn as a female character (!) who was in love with Knightman. "She was a beauty (?) with long blonde hair. "However, as I understand it, the voice in Power FIghters and the like makes her canonically a fully-fledged male."

When the umbrella appears, you lose credit for the water bubbles. Finish a level with an umbrella without getting it and watch how it doesn't show up on the next level. What that means is you have to get all the bubbles needed for a better unbrella in the same stage.. so you play through and get all the bubbles but one or two, then you farm bubbles, then you skip a bunch of stages. I think Happy End should be a requirement... (you know, in the arcade, Happy End can only be achieved in 2-player Super Bubble Bobble mode..)
