I don't think high calcium concentration would affect the water in the way you mentioned. If you have access to this pool again, try to get a small sample of this water. If you are really curious about it, you can ask a to determinate the composition of this liquid, or even try for yourself to find roughly the density, melting and boiling points, etc. Pure water's density is easily enough to someone with little experience to float on it without trouble. I can't understand how it can be that harder to float on it. They would need to add a big volume of a liquid with lower density than water just to archive a small difference of density. And why would they do that anyway?

Except for 3, primes aren't multiples of 3. So if a pair of primes is twin, their congruence modulo 9 must be: 2 and 4; 5 and 7 or 8 and 1. 2*4 = 8 5*7 = 35 = 3*9 + 8 8*1 = 8. The exception is 3 and 5, because 3 is the only prime that is a multiple of 3.

This was great, very entertaining and optimal. The time improvement and the amount of redos are impressive. Congratulations and thanks for finishing this run, Tompa!

Super Mario World is a game with an enormous amount of known tricks. Even though this page is far from perfect, you should read up the SMW game resources: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/SNES/SuperMarioWorld.html Also, I suggest watching the currently published warps TAS to compare with your first attempt: http://tasvideos.org/3019M.html If you are having so much problems with Bizhawk, as I heard you speaking in the video, just try using lsnes for now. If for some reason you are not able to edit some parts with your run with TAStudio, it's not really viable to use it. This kind of errors shouldn't happen, though. Did you install all the pre-requisites? About the run itself, there are of course a lot of things that could be improved. I'm pretty sure every level is actually done faster by real time speedrunners, so, for now, it's a good idea to watch some speedruns to see how you could have gone faster. In a TAS, there are a lot of level specific tricks one can use to go faster that aren't viable in a real time speedrun. For example, you can item swap the goal tape in YI2, duplicate blocks to get wings in YI3, perform stun glitch to spawn a boss in YI4, etc. These are very complex glitches, so I suggest you to first try to understand the simpler stuff, such as speed manipulation and routing your levels better. Get the smw-tas lua script to start learning how the game mechanics work. Also, I'm sure you 'rushed' a lot the making of this TAS. Keep in mind this is not the way to make an optimal run, you need to be very patient. As SMW is a complex game, it usually takes months to make a very optimal run. Of course you won't spend that much time in your first runs as you still didn't get into how the game works, but don't try to just do it in a couple days. Again, be patient and think of ways to save every frame you can.

I played Super Mario World on ZSNES when I was 3~4 years old. Of course I didn't know what an emulator was at the time, my dad is who downloaded it because he liked playing it too. All I remember is that I couldn't kill some bosses and I was really afraid of Chucks.

They do, but I'm pretty sure it's trivial to clip any kind of ceiling in this game. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

I've only watched Team 4 TAS, and I've realized then didn't always jump until they get of-screen after beating a boss. If I remember correctly, doing so would save a few frames.

Congratulation to the winners, that was a very impressive run! Just to give some feedback about the contest overall, though, I'd like to say that I (and many others, as far as I've seen) found this game to be really bad. Not only its graphics have a lot of ugly errors all the time, but also there is this thing that it is really easy to clip into anything. Clipping upwards is relatively easy, and clipping downwards happens even unintentionally very frequently. Some items seem to have no use at all, and the game mechanics make this game really annoying to TAS. Even after finding many interesting skips, which were motivating me to keep going with this run, I decided to drop because this game was just not fun to play and TAS. It didn't make sense to put effort on such a bad game. I say that with all the respect to ThunderAxe, and this might be a very person opinion of mine, but I think the game choice here was really poor. I know it's hard to find good unlicensed games, but this one was bad to the point of making people giving up.

I'm not really seeing the point of this TAS if it's just a standard AI vs AI match. The PNG of the match would be just as valuable and more convenient to use. Speaking of which, the one in the description is invalid. 3) b5 ... is not a legal move. Also, what do you mean by "Shepherd's train"? It's not a standard Chess term.
The term 'Scholar's mate' in other languages is actually Shepherd's mate. According to Wikipedia, that's the case for Dutch, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish.

A lot of work on very simple and old games, I like to see this kind of stuff. This seems to be pretty optimal, yes vote.

Maybe you know already, but this wasn't mentioned here: There are accepted SMB1 runs that don't aim only for fastest time, such as the walkathon run and the 'maximum coins' run. Walkathon: http://tasvideos.org/2676M.html Maximum coins: http://tasvideos.org/2977M.html As Nach said, speed still needs to be the secondary goal, though.

If you want to eventually submit movies for this site, you will have to change your emulator. Try using Bizhawk or FCEUX, maybe you will like one of them as much as you like VirtuaNES.

So is the SMW/SMB ACE movie illegal, as it 'distributes' SMB?

I agree with ais523 here. Although according to Nach you can't technically do every single video/sound combination with ACE, we saw SM64, Portal and 'Skype' on TASBlock, and it is surely pretty close to that. I didn't get impressed by the newer ACE's because of that, I was already expecting to see any crazy sequence of carefully manufactured video and audio. It's just so different from the first ACE we saw, when everything was a fresh and exciting surprise. I know the author put a huge amount of work here, the movie is technically extremely complex, etc. And the author was competent in choosing an entertaining 'story' for his character, so I think this movie should be published. But I'm sure more people will agree that ACE is getting too drained, and that we might be getting out of room for more runs of this kind.

I tried to open TAStudio, but instead of the input list, the window displays only a red 'X' in a write background.

Hello, Sieluvaras! I always like seeing people interested in TASing SMW :) So, the best way to learn is to TAS some hacks. There are a lot of hacks TASed on Youtube, so you can start trying to beat some of the old TASes there. You could also try to participate in the SMW TAS challenge we are organizing: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=447085# Be sure to enter in Discord links in Amaraticando's post, so we can communicate better.

My 3 favorite runs here are [3200] PSX Mega Man X3 "all stages" by Hetfield90, nrg_zam in 34:42.53, [3273] SNES Super Metroid "low%" by Sniq in 46:32.02 and [3243] N64 Mario Kart 64 by Weatherton in 20:33.32. My vote goes to Mario Kart, I don't remember getting more entertained with a TAS than I got with this one!

If in a future GDQ a similar situation happens, in case the authors don't desire to tell in this thread the content of their work, I suggest telling privately only the ones who have worked in the involved games.

Hello, Kipper3575! Adding to Mothrayas's message, I don't think 'capeless' is a good idea for a category, as we already have small only. The fact that a category is popular between the speedrunners doesn't imply that it's acceptable in TASVideos. To know better SMW TAS tricks, take a look at the game resources page: http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/SNES/SuperMarioWorld.html It's far from complete, but it has useful info.

Welcome to TASVideos, I like bleach 64. Be sure to read the submissions rules. Using PAL doesn't count as an improvement. If a judge cancels your run, you should not uncancel it.

Hello! SMW Community has organized a TAS competition, and you are invited to participate as well! It's not very well organized yet, but it's the best we could do :). It's really close to DTC, which, I know, may turn away some of you. But keep in mind this competition was thought for SMW community, and we are trying to make it happen for months. I asked to the deadline to be in 01/20th so that it doesn't overlap with DTC. EDIT: It will be actually 01/31. The first task we thought of (and it was published just a few minutes ago on Discord, so nobody has an 'advantage' on it) is the following: Enter Vanilla Dome 3 with small Mario, empty item box, and without Yoshi. Kill every enemy in the main room, and beat the level. You will have to kill the blarggs too! The only way to do it is with a cape slide. It's not allowed to get Yoshi from the block that exists in the level. You can kill the enemies with any method you want. To be sure it died, just check if it can't spawn anymore. The movie must start when entering VD3, and end aiming for shortest input time. You can submit it until 01/20 23:59 GMT. Post your movie files here in this thread, or in the Discord server made for this competition: https://discord.gg/E7cjBRh Emulators allowed: lsnes, Bizhawk and Snes9x 1.5. Again, I apologize if you think that this isn't organized very well, it's the first challenge we made. In the futures ones, the date it starts will be announced sooner, and there will be a better submission method. I encourage you to participate, and have fun!
