Actually, it don't. It does aim for 100% kills, not most. The last movie killed more enemies, I just miss less. Some enemies spawns other enemies and because the last author killed everything slower theese enemies had time to spawn more enemies. You can see by the end score that he has the higher one. If I aimed for most kills I would have had to delay killing many of the enemies in the game leading to a slower (a.i more laggy) run.

All turrets are destroyed, though to a viewer who don't know the game well it will inevitably look like some are missed. I do however miss 1 very very small rock in level 5, some fire rings in level 4 gets destroyed on the environment instead of by me and after the level 4 boss you can destroy (though not destroy all) the falling rocks.

Haha, awesome. That one ought to raise a few eyebrows. But is X-ray completely needed for it? It seems that it is and we won't have it at that point...

that's awesome. Were all 3 frames saved from just skipping the floor bombing?
I think so, the bottom half should be identical to your version. The thing is that with RDF you can do 4 (I think) cornerboosts that you otherwise would have to skip in order to clear the middle platform. The bombing of the floor was already very close to the alternate strategy so these additional frames made all the difference. EDIT: Also I took some time and tested P.J's CWJ strat for the room after the mainstreet, it's 6 frames slower. It is perhaps not fully optimized though but I doubt more than 1 or 2 frames more can shaved of. Yup

Fano's vid gave me motivation to try and find better strategies in the RB mainstreet because I was convinced that it was improvable. What I came up with is 3 frames faster than hero's any% run which AFAIK was the fastest known strategy, and it actually obsoletes the floor bombing. Yo

I'm a bit puzzled about the situations where it clearly lagged, although there were zero enemies on-screen.
At a couple of points I only moved every other frame, this makes it look like the game lags. Also updated the submission text with a link to the second version of the run.

Also, knowing you handled lag very well in this game, would you consider tasing Super R-Type for SNES? That one lags a lot and I would love to see how you would handle the lag + its a very entertaining game.
I might consider giving it a try, I've never played it though so I should probably do that first.

Yeah as I said I'll upload a second input file later today. The people/judges will get to decide which one to publish, personally though I like this one better. Not because it ends the movie as fast as possible but because it is a big WTF for most people.

I am not sure why, but the movie stopped playing right before getting to the final boss.
Yeah I end input early, I just find a position that will render me imortal and the boss commits suicide about a minute after the movie ends. I suspected that some people would not like that and I intended to release a second movie file where I actually kill the boss. Yesterday though I did not have time for it, but I'll do it later today. Also thanks everyone for the very kind words :)

Does anyone (Cpadolf maybe?) have any idea what glitch causes the end boss to die all by itself?
I dunno if it is a glitch even, according to someone (?) most bosses in gradius self destruct sooner or later, I figured the final boss would too and searched for an invulnerable spot. I have no idea technically why it kills itself, maybe it's sad :(

No other reason. The thing with it that is good is that you can to a cornerboost or shot a enemy in front of you and then start RDF (yup I said it) without stopping which would otherwise be needed.

After completing level 7 I noticed that the publication text for this movie is false, you can actually kill everything in it and I think the author does. It is an optical illusion that makes it seem that he does not kill every enemy, because the level is only 1.5-2 screens tall and looping when you go up and down. There is no diverging paths. This also means that my video will most likely be a true 100% kills.

I am sure this run would have gotten more attention if Snes9x was used.
Indeed it would have, I was about to download it a few days abo but I'm not ready to go through the hassel of ZSNES movie playback. Take this as a note for future projects.

I give up. My computer refuses to make the post look like it should. 7th edit... 8th EDIT: You still need to press both down and reverse at the same time in the first example.

Oh also there is a little more to the trick, some already know this but I thought I'd put it out there so anyone who wants to search for improvements with this trick knows it. Normaly you would have to first aim down for one frame then start pushing reverse or you would simply turn around, but if you make a shot first (the frame you press X you are not allowed to hold either R or L though you can still shoot diagonaly if you whish to by pressing R for L one frame and then press X without any of them pressed) you can start holding both down and reverse at the same time. This is mostly useful for making corner boosts without having to loose momentum afterwards or if you have to kill/shoot an enemy that is not directly beneath you.

"aim-down" falling tech
Can't we call it down-reverse falling? (DRF or whatever acronym would fit it best) Sounds much better. The least we could do is to give it a official name since the technique is getting more and more commonly used.
