Neat. My favorite part was when you paused right before you fell into the pit. I was in stitches. All of your deaths were also really painful to watch. I also liked the "suspenseful" final battle.

I said NES in a more "for example" type of way, so yeah, you can play anything you want. Good stuff so far. Maybe I'll go and play something like Boulder dash or SMB2 to add to this thread.

That was fun to watch. Some of those parts really looked tool-assisted, like the koopa jump in 1-2. I burst out laughing when you missed the star in 8-1.

WHY?
I really, really wish I knew the answer to that, because it really was a stupid descision..
Something tells me that, no matter how hard you'd try, it'd be nearly impossible to make a coherent plot and still have the movie composed of scenes like this.

(I'm not sure how many views this thread will get, seeing that it's in one of the least active sections of this site. But oh well, it fits best here.) Load up a game and pretend you're taking a break after a long day just to play on your NES- except record a movie of it and post it here. You don't have to go for speed or do impressive stunts or anything, I just want to see you playing the game normally. Just be sure to play at normal speed and don't use savestates.

I'm not really sure how effective a movie that shows how TASes are made would be. People who say "LAME, CHEATED" will not think TASes are cool after seeing such a movie. It might only help the people which say "OMG, CRAZY JAPANESE PEOPLE XD".
I think it will mainly help the people who say "Anyone can do it this way!"

That actually was the main inspiration for the idea. That's one of my favorite movies on YouTube. But yeah, my idea was to show the TASing process, not the movies themselves. There are plenty of those, and too many people mindlessly bash them because they don't understand what kind of work went into them and what they stand for.

We all know that just about every TAS that gets posted on YouTube gets swamped with replies claiming the player cheated or hacked the game. Even those who understand the concept of a TAS slam the movie because "they couldn't beat the game without slowmotion" or "it's not impressive because anyone can do it." Here's an idea: How about we make a movie that demonstrates what goes into the making of a TAS? It could be made with some program that captures the display of the screen, like Fraps. It could show off the use of states and slowmotion and how tedius and difficult TASing is, demonstrating how they work to create the complete videos. Of course, we couldn't make it completely boring, so it should have a wide variety of games, good music, and good editing. Maybe we could even throw in an audio commentary to include stuff like the player cussing out the game for not cooperating after hours of trying the same jump. Just an idea. I'm certainly not planning to make it, I don't know a thing about video editing.

I have to admit that this movie had some pretty good music.

Yeah, and strangely enough, the first one was uploaded by myself. The second one was replied to the same video I replied to. And neither of them have been added to the video reply list yet.

Couldn't think of a witty reply, so pick one: A) I want my 15 minutes back. B) Somebody upload this to YouTube. Now. C) I call dibs on TASing this game. I wonder if it would be an accepted hack.

Not again!! As long as the huge pauses on the overworld all add up, I have no problem with them. However, I know the real issue there is with the lag caused by all those enemies. That is a little bit noticeable. I liked how you improved the falling-into-lava part in a noticeable way.

The best idea I can think of is to write your games for a console that is either really confusing to emulate, like the DS, or contains hardware that most people's computers won't have the power to emulate, like any of the next-gen systems.

I've started a new run, and I've completed the first two worlds with an improvement of 3 seconds. I estimate that it will end up being about 10 seconds faster. Don't expect it to be done anytime soon, though.

*resurrect* I just have a simple suggestion for this. Do you think it would be possible to implement Shift+click to allow large selections without having to zoom out really far?

Before my computer broke down, I spent about 30 minutes one day searching for some memory locations: 00BC - Weapon 0 = No Weapon 3 = Both Weapons Other = Mickey's Weapon 00F0 - Number of times the secret has been hit (8 will reveal it) I'll get more later.

Got my laptop back today. The fan was busted, they installed a new one. I'll look into more stuff with this game this week, and I'll post the memory locations I've discovered. Don't let WoW eat your soul!

Look, all I'm saying is that you can't argue video games like you argue religion or politics. My frustration was never aimed only at you, JXQ, but at everyone who contributed to this thread becoming 5 pages of pointless fanboy-like arguments when in theory it should have only been 1 or 2.

Something about the graphics, the world structure, and the dungeon design rubbed me the wrong way.
You call this an arguement? Unlike you, I didn't even cite any examples, back it up in any way (which would be pointless), or refuse to shut up until you respect my opinion. I just said it. I've been in numerous "arguements" in #samus.co.uk that have followed this pattern: <n00b123|MPH> Metroid Prime 2 sucks because of the ammo system. <CtrlAltDestroy> Name one Metroid game that doesn't have an ammo system. <n00b123|MPH> Prime 2's ammo system was completely different from the rest of the Metroids, and it sucked. That's fine so far, but if I continued on to say something like... <CtrlAltDestroy> Okay, exactly what is the difference you see between the ammo system in Prime 2 and that of other Metroid games? Is it the fact that it's BEAM ammo and not powerbomb, missile, or super missile ammo? Is that what's bothering you? What about Metroid Prime Hunters? That had ammo for SIX beams, but I see you like that game. So please, expand upon your dislike for the beam system so I can argue against it. THAT's what's wrong with this thread. Note that it actually would have accomplished nothing if n00b123 replied to me about the beam system, because it's actually not the beam system he dislikes, but the game- his dislike for the beam system most likely did not cause, but came from his dislike of the game. The idea is, that once you figure out this little fact, you shut up because the arguement is going to go absolutely nowhere from that point. You can't make somebody like or dislike the game just by arguing some points, all you'd be trying to do now is make yourself look good, and accomplishing nothing but insulting other peoples' taste in games and making everyone involved look like a noobish fanboy. P.S. Provoking fanboys is just as bad as being one.

You know, there is a big difference between a preference and an opinion. A preference is something that you don't need to prove. You don't say "I like blue better than black, because black is too dark." You just say "I prefer blue over black" and you don't need to give a reason for it. An opinion is something that requires you to back it up with argument. You can't say "In my opinion, capital punishment is wrong." You have to say "It's wrong BECAUSE..." If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people arguing so avidly about preferences. So, JXQ, you didn't like Metroid Prime. That's your preference. You don't need to go and "back it up" with a bunch of things that annoyed you in order to justify your preference. Preferences don't need to be justified. Trying to justify a preference is like making a bunch of excuses as to why your preference doesn't conform to most of everyone else's so that they'll respect you. The points you listed aren't problems at all, in fact, many of them are reasons that people enjoyed the game even more. I personally liked Metroid Prime because of the darkness, because the visor effects, because of the controls, the visors, the HUD display, and the backtracking... I loved Metroid Prime 2 because of the dark world, the ammo system, and the sky temple keys... I liked Wind Waker because of the sailing... And if you didn't, that's due to your personal preferences. To put this a different way: The fact that you didn't like Metroid Prime is like the Flu, and the points you listed as to why you didn't like it are like the Flu symptoms which are there because of the Flu. The game rubbed you the wrong way, therefore as you were playing it or reflecting back on it, you were constantly searching for "valid" reasons not to like it so that you could justify your preference. As for me, I don't like Ocarina of Time, even though many people say that it's close to being the greatest game ever made. I have played almost every other Zelda released (FSA and MM are all I'm missing so far). I played through OoT only once, and I didn't like it. I just didn't like it. I just didn't. Something about the graphics, the world structure, and the dungeon design rubbed me the wrong way. However, you're not going to see me going to try and find reasons why I didn't like it in order to back myself up and try to argue them like I'm arguing about an opinion.

I found that memory address, but it's on my laptop. I hope I'll be getting it back by Sunday. Just like with the final boss, you can easily kill the level 3 boss with the fairy. The fairy keeps you invincible until it flies off the screen completely, and entering a boss room only makes it *start* to fly away.

Great, but now MY laptop is in the shop. By the way, I found another fairy that can be used to instant-kill the level 3 boss. It's hidden in a flower. I also found a fairy in level 2, but it's useless. You have to stand on a cliff for your shots to reach it, and it's impossible to kill the boss with it since the battle is taking place on the top of the screen and it disappears way too soon. So, if you don't even have to kill three of the five bosses, I think that skipping Minnie's weapon is definitely something to look into. My new concern with doing this is shooting the fairies. They each take 8 shots to attain and it's extremely difficult (impossible?) to blast one open before you get to it, even with 3 bullets.

Sounds okay to me, except that U+D doesn't do anything but activate the ladder glitch. And what exactly is sprite overload?
