hmm when I started recording I had my settings like this: Camera: Extended Super Sonic Music: off I thought this is what everyone agreed to in the other thread? if not stop me now before I finish a run with the wrong settings =X
If you read the first post in this topic, m'afraid it states it quite clearly.

Your only time in that current recording that is faster than my "Mighty" one, is Act 3. You also seem to have a excessive amount of light-dashing, it limits your speed.

hi all, I'm new here, I've started a WIP run and decided to post it. my TASing experience isn't really what I would consider "good", but I'm not horrible either. I've loved sonic games ever since I was a kid, and this hack just blew my mind :D so I had to try it. this is my WIP: Click Only the first zone is complete, though I think I did pretty good, I will work on the rest of the levels later and post my progress. and here is a little Real-time action (me playing at 100% only used a few savestates):Click
Could you please state which character this is, and if you're going for all emeralds or no emeralds?

I have no idea. That could be it. When I showed them to Upthorn he was able to deduce what was going on better than I.
Well I would watch and figure out whats going on in those recordings, however they require a save-state which I do not have. so I am unable to view them.

Realistically speaking, it will never be "truly" complete, so I figure it's now or never. Simply list your TASes as runthroughs of v3.0, v2.0, etc etc, just so people know which you actually ran though.
That sounds like a plan. I could keep the first topic up-to-date with recordings from the different versions. Probably begin a new topic for it, recover the recordings from here then leave this to gather dust. Too much drama and stuff has happened in here. That is of course if there are no objections..

If you would've stated, before I posted, that you didn't know the code. I would have said nothing related to it. The manner in which you posted before you edited, sound along the lines of "I know the code, you don't.. NEHH" to me. Oh well, not much I can do now.

Unfortunately due to your quick and decisive posting, you actually misquoted me BEFORE I managed to edit into my post (which was around 1min after) into stating that I don't actually know the code. I was hoping that you'd notice before you started quoting me left right and center.

To which a more secretive response would be something like "I'm aware of this code's existance, but I have been told that its being kept secret and as such wouldn't go down well being displayed in a TAS" Sorry I indirectly got you in trouble :)

If you let people know tweaker gave you the code, they may think that they can just pester him until he gives them the code, too and so on. And it also sounds like you're bragging about tweaker doing special stuff for you. Both of these results can be annoying to him.

While I do know that code, I promised I would not reveal that code and I keep promises. The recording would clearly present the code, all you have to do is watch it at frame-advance. P.S you can only play ONE ZONE in that mode and it will take you back to the title screen.
I'd also appreciate you avoid being a cocktease and letting the whole world know that you know the code, which I reluctantly gave you. Chances are I'll be changing it for the next release now, and this time I won't tell anybody. I'll probably also change the RAM flag used to activate the level select as well, just to make sure the job's done right. Those who complete the game properly get a level select. Stop trying to cheat your way through the game.
I know I'm going to feel stupid asking this, but, have I pissed you off in some manner? I have not at all revealed the code at all as I promised I would not, so what is it I have done to annoy you? You're post seemed rather agressive.

Not if you toggle extra mode on, then go from there to preferences, select "exit", and start a new game normally afterwards.
The only way I could see that working without compromising the code, would be setting a save-state literally after the key-press that I have done to go back to preferences. which would still require a save-state. p.s , upthorn, suppose you could post me a Gens with just off-screen hack on? I don't mind if it works similar to the one you had for S3K .. I know I can do the runs faster and I would love to at least do it for personal viewing.

Well I did state I was going to do recordings from now on with Super music off. Simply because it can get repetitive and boring. However when I began and re-began this recording. I forgot BOTH times to turn it off. So for the purpose of this one recording, I'm afraid you have to turn it on. As for the save-state. it doesn't restore the preferences. I don't know why, don't ask. If it did, I wouldn't have to post my own SRM file up would I? people would've been able to use the save-state. I was hoping that it would be the but it seems not as everyone was desyncing.
I'm a bit sketchy on gmv specs, but if it records resets I would request starting from blank SRAM and changing all the game settings in the gmv rather than savestates and srm everywhere which just causes agrovation :( Also please reread my post, I edited it with a couple more questions.
In order to have GAME+ unlocked, you have to complete the game as the character you wish to play it as. Do you really wish to have a TAS of a normal game go JUST so you can then watch a GAME+ TAS? A simple SRM file with everything set to work "out-of-the-box" is alot easier. In My Opinion.

First of all, I'm not sure about you but I find the whole jumping through hoops to play a tas quite annoying. Why could all the settings and such not be in the provided savestate and saveram? why do I have to turn on super sonic music when it should already be enabled? I have to say that while using sonics flying ability is fun when playing, I'm afraid its quite boring when watching the screen just flying by. But congratulations on curbing my curiosity on what such a run would look like :)

On the plus side, it means any Game+ recordings will not be requiring a save-state to get them going, it will just require the watcher to have the correct SRM. As for the recording being boring. Sonic yeah, and shadow MAYBE but I Do believe that Shadow and Mighty could be interesting to watch, Shadow 'cause of his speed, you will scroll through top-less maps faster. and Mighty, because he might probabily still have to go THROUGH alot of the levels. I will have to look into it. the SRM file is provided for others that want to try TASes with the characters, possibly being able to do it better or setting possibly a ground rule of not going through the level, no idea. P.S I took damage in "spring-yard" simply because there was no way I could pull off a jump, so in the interest of speed, light-dashing into the spikeball got me to the ground faster.

Desync for me. You start the stage, light dash forward, light dash backwards and get hit by the first enemy.
Download the just-posted SRM but go into preferences and set Super music ON. then watch again. Should play fine. REMEMBER you will need your preferences EXACTLY like the recordeé otherwise you will Desync (In this case, when I go Super)

Download-link fixed. Seems it didn't like the filename being Sonic+ .. My favorite Parts/Points of Interest -The speed of "Starlight" Act 2 -Robotnik Monitor Damage evasion by Light-Dash -End of "Starlight" Act 3, the CPU rapid spin-dashing.. just .. cause it does. -Some acts have Sonic "Stood Still" while "Score Zooming" (A during point count-down) -Sink-into-wall glitch on "Scrap Brain" Act 1 - could lead to possible zipping, I couldn't pull anything interesting off however. [Edit]Ya'know.. I've only just noticed[/i] that Upthorn is mentioned as a programmer in this hack![/Edit] [Edit2]"Extra Mode" SRM file for those that want to give these recordings an attempt anyway. Has Extra unlocked for All 3 current characters. It also has the settings required set, (Control Scheme Extended, Super music Off, Spike Bug Off, Speed Cap Off, Camera Style Extended) First post has been edited to supply this also.[/Edit2]

Interesting idea there. Question is, has anybody actually found an S monitor? I've yet to see one in the many times I've played through this hack... Apparently, S monitors make super sonic literally fly (or at least stop falling).
I've found plenty of S monitors. If my SRM file still works I'll post a link to it and do a brief run demonstrating the locations of them all. I will edit this post soon. [Edit]Alright, I'll do a simple run to prove the S monitors and show their places along a suitable route. Emeralds can still be collected in +mode so you can go Super without needing the S monitor (albiet its a little redundant..) So once its done, I'll post up a save-state and recording. P.S its Sonic. So you get his ability This will not be a WIP or anything, this is simply to show the monitors so others can try planning their routes. This will most likely not be a entertaining thing to watch either.[/Edit] [Edit2]This is gonna take a little longer than planned. I had about a minute ago finished a actual semi-decent "TAS" Game+ as Sonic. I was just adding the final touch. Then gens decided to reset the recording. 1500 re-records later, I'm left with nothing... awesome. Due to things in real life I'll hafta be out of the loop for a bit but I should be back pretty soon with a recording. I am stating now though, that it is boring watching a Sonic version of this. Which you will see why when I can get around to posting for you folks.[/Edit2]

Entertaining run. Pretty obvious you were experimenting with the game. Liked the wall-glitch in Dark Fortress 3 (Marble Zone 3), City Outskirts as a whole (although you could have just gone right over the top), and your manipulation of the final boss. I swear Super Mighty has the best raw acceleration of the 3 super forms (though super sonic has moves to get him up to speed speed quickly, and the speed cap doesn't apply to super shadow). Also, it's possible for super mighty with a flame shield to sorta glitch the screen, I've glitched through sprites with it (and even gotten crushed several times).
Well the wall glitch I admit I found by chance, also the version you see was revised 4 times, trying to get it to zoom correctly to the right side, I don't just zoom all the way because I don't have the ability to see off-screen so I cannot jump at the right-time to further manipulate it and zoom through the level, so considering my lack of tools, I still managed to handle that glitch pretty speedily. As for most of the rest of the run, It was simply re-vising "my" route for Mighty, and discomfort, my PS2 controller (which I use, [] A, X B , O C, L1 frame-adv, R2 pause, L2 quick-load, R2 quick-save) is a little harsh on the thumb when holding down the D-pad , using a Analog is dreadful as it typically holds up/down at the same time (which is NOT what I want alot of the time) What I will have to sit down and do is find a comfortable keyboard setup and try to work my way back to it.
