Wish I could figure out how to defeat it's fucking 2nd form with the gas. I've watched youtube videos and everything. Whenever I do what they do it just replicates.

Indeed, unfortunately I go for simple free tools to keep quality at it's best, so I don't sadly have that option. It was put together using VirtualDub. I must admit when I watched it myself I found it a touch confusing. If you don't mind when you have another large segment like that I'll try different recording techniques, see if I can get a natural gap between the 2 videos from GENS itself.

Try watching some S3&K movies with this script. It attempts to detect and eliminate "boring things", such as special stages and zipping and super music...
(But don't run it at the same time as that other ghost script I posted earlier. I think there's some bug in Gens I didn't know about until now that causes huge obvious desyncs if those two scripts are both active.)
Funny fact about that script.
Use that same script with my "Sonic2 GetAllEmeralds" recording. See what happens.

If you use numlock, you can see the base address in RAM of the object you are currently focused on (add FF to the front to use it in ram search). I believe I set the speedometer to cycle with the camera focus, so if you see something in ram search with the same value as the speedometer shows, that'll get you the address.
Regardless of switching between Sonic / Tails . I always see Sonic's speed. So wouldn't searching the Speedometer value simply show me Sonic's speed? How would I determine Tails' from this?

And it only triggers if the object goes offscreen from normal focus
Which is what I meant. Anyway to force it constantly, long as their in a game level?

This works fairly ok.
This may be going a step far but. The "speedhack". Any chance you guys have the addresses to those to?
It'd be helpful if I could toggle between Sonic and Tails and still know their speeds etc.
Oh - one small thing. The Camhack goes a bit weird when switched to Tails, Hitboxes and stuff doesn't always show correctly.
And a small Q - Any chance it could center the camera on Tails?

This (somehow-only-shows-up-if-you-compile-it-yourself-in-VS2008) bug is fixed now on SVN. Basically the only change necessary was to replace "NONCLIENTMETRICS ncm;" with "NONCLIENTMETRICS ncm = {0};" in G_main.cpp.
It seems this fix has been eliminated from the current SVN.

A full commitment’s what I’m thinking of,

i would think the point of a Super Sonic run, aside from playing as SS, is to show the special stages, which will never be shown in any other type of run.
i say to do whichever option is faster.
Faster to do what, Obtain Super Sonic, or to complete the game?
As for a General Consensus, I see the following votes for both options so far.
(4) getting all emeralds in... Emerald Hill. (Or 6 in EH and 1 on Chemical Plant): OmegaWatcher, ZeXr0, DDRKhat & 4matsy
(3) getting all emeralds while "keeping the flow", already discussed : Upthorn, FuzZerd? & Wockes

And it looks alot more challenging than running around being invincible all the time while the Super Sonic music loops for half an hour
Ironically you may only see Super Sonic half of the time, back when I was doing a test-run through Chemical Plant Act 1, it wasn't worth going Super Sonic in it.

Not counting time spent in special stages, you have lost 2130 frames (35.5 seconds) in EH1, compared to entering no special stages.
Gee. I wonder why I'm loosing time doing something extra.
upthorn wrote:
By comparison, if you entered only one special stage, at the third lamp post, you could probably get away with only 3 to 5 seconds loss.
If we assume about the same time loss for each emerald, we get 2130 * (7/3) = 4970 frames (1 minute 22.8 seconds) of in-level time loss.
Whereas 3 to 5seconds per emerald * 7emeralds = 21 to 35 seconds of total in-level time loss.
Yes, this will require more work from you, but it'll provide a savings of 47 to 61 seconds, which is way too much to shrug off. In fact, collecting a single chaos emerald would have to lose you almost 12 seconds in each level it's done in for this not to pay off better.
I'll leave you or someone else to this then. Seeing as you clearly have this calculated deeply and (From the sounds of it) was planning to do it.
I get the feeling I've just become a jester for you, Upthorn. Thanks.
Here was my route. If anyone cares

Nice, good luck! By the way you should be able to rotate the screen in the emulator, I think it's under the emulation menu.
I have. But for the purpose of recording video it cannot be rotated or you get weird wrapping (The AVI record doesn't seem to take this into account). I was just after some quick screenshots while I wrapped up the session of this and rotating it manually was easiest. I promise you, I'm not sat there with my head tilted 90* XD

This is one of the Age-detection games. there are others. You can select the game pressing select while choosing the game.
There are two kinds of minigames, the Brain Age check and the Daily Training games.
To get all training minigames, you'll have to get 20 stamps. To get a stamp, you must complete at least one game per DAY.
Ahh. I thought this was a bit too simple for nobody to have done it. Consider the video a WIP then, I'm finding this fun so I'll get to work on finishing this.
[edit]
Okay, some screenshots so far. I'm moving to work onto Sonic 2 now, will pick this back up later today. In the following screenshots the answers are still considered correct.

It might be better to just show screenshots however.

I suggest try something more entertaining for your first tas, just my 2 cents advice here, well, sonic 2 sound good, why not another plateformer for ds ? this one realy sound like boring
this wouldn't be my first TAS. I've done several, perhaps not published any and some were obsoluted (See: Zero Wing for GENS & Point Blank for PSX).
The entertainment comes from seeing the end result, a sense of curiosity you could say.

Generaly you need to go US, regardless your personal preferences / material
The order is US > JAP > EU
Generaly the only jap games accepted are jap exclusive... or does contain massive difference that justificate it
Taking the europe version is the worst idea here i think
Also, im not sure its gonna be very entertaining, well, i hope it will for you :p
I am unaware of there being any difference in the games, other than perhaps the currency game.

Incidentally, the Sonic 2 maps at The Sonic Center were recently updated with a batch I made. 100% scaled, all rings and objects shown, with hitboxes and solidity.
They should be quite helpful for route planning. (except sky chase).
Already came across them and they have indeed been a great help towards planning.
As for the comments about "keeping the flow". I can honestly so far I've not done a whole lot of back-tracking to get to the special stages (Give or take a few seconds to get the third special stage in EHZ1) And as I said, I personally feel it would become quite cumbersome having to mess around getting Emeralds in later zones where such solid routes without emeralds have already been posted.
