It has been over two months since this has been submitted. Entepp, what is the current status of improvements for this submission?

Vanilla Mega Man 5 also didn't refill weapons between castle stages. This hack also does change weapon refill times to be near instant so it's generally just faster to manipulate weapon refill drops over using the M tank to refill all weapon energy from the menu.

This version of Tetris has a very weird scoring system with the "40 Lines" mode. https://tetris.wiki/Tetris_(WonderSwan_Color) The actual lines removed that isn't a single line doesn't correlate to the number of lines actually deducted. It gives a bonus deduction, with the back-to-back Tetris being the big bonus that removes 12 lines from the count. Why the game was designed like this is beyond me. EDIT: On that same Wiki page I found a TAS that clears the "40 Lines" mode in 0:05 according to in-game time. Link to video

I think you uploaded the wrong input file by accident. The file you uploaded has a time under a second but your video lists a time of 7:59.72. If you want a judge to replace the file with the correct one, please upload the correct input file to User Files so someone can replace it. Wiki: Userfiles

Also worth noting that BizHawk is 64-bit only while FCEUX is still 32-bit computer compatible. While it's mostly common to have one nowadays, not everyone has a 64-bit computer and thus can't use BizHawk.

I contacted reirrab on Discord and got their permission for co-authorship with the improvements I found.

I feel like just opening all chests and getting all the optional fairies and skills in Brain Lord is good enough for full completion. All the other parts seem extraneous but that's up to you if you want to include them with all the extra routing and RNG manipulation that entails.

It should be Roll since:
  • Mega Man is Mega Man as he always is. Just the standard charge shot and sliding.
  • Proto Man is similar to Mega Man except he can reflect certain projectiles back at enemies but also takes extra damage.
  • Roll can keel slide speed in the air by jumping and her melee attacks have a higher damage per frame than the options other characters get.
  • Man is Mega Man without the Mega a joke character where it's Mega Man but both he and anyone the same size as regular Mega Man are now 1 tile shorter due to not having a body.
In theory character choice that isn't Man shouldn't affect how horizontal zipping works.

I jumped the gun on this one. I apologize for my actions that were out of line and have reverted all of the changes to the submission file. I am also currently trying to contact reirrab about the improvements I found and asking about co-authorship.

Do you know which version of the hack you were using? I tried to run this with version 1.1 of the hack and it immediately desynced right at the start of Top Man's stage. RHDN didn't seem to have version 1.0 provided by the hack author either.

I had this last time where you're supposed to use the version 1.1 patch. The author just has the wrong file name. Be sure to check here to make sure the file hash for version 1.1 matches the one you're trying to use: Wiki: 3474G

I remember playing this hack years ago. There were a lot of neat ideas but unfortunately the biggest memory was how terrible Wily 2 was in this hack.

I posted a comment on your user file but it bears repeating here: If you want the improvement to obsolete the current publication, you have to make a new submission.

I managed to make a .bk2 from the file. The .tasproj file format is just a .zip file so something like 7ZIP can open and check it. The greenzones were the problem as they got corrupted but there seemed to be other issues when opening it as a .tasproj file. I deleted other files to pare it down to a .bk2 file which you can open to make a new .tasproj file for you. User movie #638210771936783704 A small note: this movie is using version 1.1 of the hack, not version 1.0.

Sadly it's not possible to get a double hit per cycle since the i-frames last longer than the window the Wily Capsule is vulnerable.

I first had to remind myself that S-ranks aren't really needed for a regular game completion since the shake glitch requires getting hit. Survivability isn't a big issue since undershirt comes with the Navi Customizer. The one big concern was the Drill Man fight but the shake chips are breaking, making that less of an issue. Shake can be obtained as soon as the Higsby chip trader is available, which is right after Beast Man. I should research how much damage shake would get from a recovery chip. If it's a super high value, then that means a pretty easy 2 chip kill combo on bosses is available for a majority of the game.

Link to video Turns out Roll can do a lot of damage on the ground like Zero doing the SDC. lol The actual process is that the melee combo has lower i-frames than other attacks, but each part of the combo does different damage. Most notably, the 2nd hit of the combo only does 1 attack and the full combo string has a fair amount of recovery. What I do is to just do the 1st hit of the combo, slide, turn around to cancel the slide, and attack with the 1st hit again. I haven't done thorough testing testing and it is technically subject to change with future versions but it definitely feels slightly faster than repeating the combo as much as possible. Wouldn't it be a broom slide cancel, or a BSC?

I've been looking into Mega Man Battle Network TASing in general and for this game I've had a thought on a possible chip route change. A few years ago it was discovered that BeastMan's Navi chip's command code input activates for every separate A/B press, so with rapid alternation it hits 14 times. While having 3 Navi+20 chips would work for almost everything up to Alpha, how much time would that realistically save over the current route?

Since this fan homebrew project now has a complete part of the project, I feel it's a good time to make a proper thread. Mega Man: The Sequel Wars is a fan project by Woodfrog to give the NES Mega Man 4-6 the Wily Wars treatment, with extra additions. 2023 May 23: First part released, Episode Red. This only has the remake of Mega Man 4. Episode Red has been made freely available for download at RHDN. 2023 May 24: RHDN link down due to concerns on their end. There have been TASes of earlier demo builds for the project. I have done a couple of TASes and Baddap1 has done a TAS as well. I do plan on looking into this but chances are more seasoned Mega Man TASers are more likely to get all the tech sorted out faster than I would. I'm making a thread now so that there's at least one place where tech and such can be posted.

I checked the input file and it still lists the other hash used in the previous submission rather than the PSX_3.0(J).bin BIOS hash. I did try to play it again regardless and it desynced at the same place as last time. Did you upload the older input file on accident? If you did, you can upload the correct one to Wiki: UserFiles so I can verify sync and replace the submission with the correct input.

Entepp, I heard from RetroEdit that you're working on an improved TAS for this game. Would you like have this submission set to delayed, where you can then upload your improvement input file to Wiki: Userfiles and have it replace the one in this submission, or cancel this submission and submit the improved version in the future?

Thanks to Spikestuff for figuring out what was wrong for me. I encountered a desync when trying to play the submission on my end, right around when the game is supposed to walk out of town to witness Slymy being struck by lightning. It turns out there was a PSX BIOS mismatch that seems to be the root cause. The problem is that this submission uses the wrong PSX BIOS for its production.

Moon should be using an NTSC-J BIOS as it's a Japan only PSX game.

Is that glitch related to the weird one I never figured out where I took damage randomly?

SMS Rastan wasn't released in Japan, and the FM Sound Unit was only released in Japan. As such, this game shouldn't be using the FM Synth music and sound. I tried doing a direct transplant of the inputs with the PSG sound and it desynced on the first boss.
