I think the biggest problem is that people fail to differentiate between the two terms. Some say that it "sounds the same to me."

Mike tyson's punch-out is without a doubt my favorite game on the nes, and I've just finished uploading my speed run where every boxer is defeated in the first round and beaten in close to record time. Save states where not used, I could have matched the world records for the boxers if I had used them; instead this is the product of the many years and countless hours I've spent playing this game and my dedication to it. You can see it my site. Enjoy :)

Zelda would be the one i would like to see the most, but it would probably require the most work as well. I don't think a few tenths of a second in smb1 and a couple of seconds in smb3 would be as entertaining to make me watch them over again since the improvements in those games would be barely noticeable. Seems like smb2 is becoming the next Kung Fu in terms of competition over small time improvments...

I don't see too much point in playing B. The enemies just take more life; that means the tactics against the bosses would have to change slightly. Overall it wouldn't be too entertaining and I predict it would be a slower run.

Did a quick run just now, I used a different approach for three of the levels but ended up finishing with the same time as genisto & phil. The time units could quite possibly be perfect but it's hard to tell with this kind of game. (Played on Virtuanes) Video here: Kung Fu by Deviance Version 7 [time units: 1547, 1557, 1551, 1545, 1549; this is a difficult time to beat, I don't believe any future versions will have any significant improvements.]

Saving screenshots in famtasia is simple, during gamplay just go to File>New>Save BMP.

what is the difference between 0.78 and 0.91? I tried both but I don't see too much difference except that 0.91 has some more features and some of the bugs of 0.78 corrected as indicated by the version history log that comes with the emulator. (avi converter too of course)

It has come to my attention, that many people (and a couple websites) are unaware that Virtuanes has a slow motion feature. Quite a few people have asked me to explain this, so I've decided to post instructions on how to use slow motion with this emulator here--since it isn't as obvious as famtasia's. This has been tested with the latest version of the Virtuanes emulator. 1. choose on the top menu: Option>Emulator 2. make sure "auto frame skip" "Throttle use" and "Disksystem throttle use" are checked. 3. set the Framerate to something lower than 60 FPS (ex. I use something around 20 FPS most of the time) 4. load a rom 5. during gameplay press the TAB button on your keyboard and it should display the message "throttle on" at the bottom left of the screen. 6. You will now have slow motion; press TAB again to disable it and resume normal playing speed. no annoying "Speed Adjusting ==> Very Heavy!" messages appear on this emulator which makes it very convenient. Hope this helps clear things up.

are you going to give us the link? also, i'm guessing you meant 1547 and 1551 for levels 1 and 3.

download the avi file, the one that covers the whole game is pretty big but you can be patient with it.

you've answered your own question, the european version plays faster so thats why you got 244 on 8-3.
...I can't make it another time on US version at all...
I don't understand, you mean you can't duplicate 244 on the united states version?

I remember in the snes version you end up fighting each other, but you put your swords away and join up together again. Not sure if it's the same thing here.

hmm, never heard of this radio show; I visited their forums, and there really isn't much going on about superplay videos. I'm glad that they didn't do the whole "these are fake!" thing and actually recommended the videos. Seems like superplay videos are getting more popular by the day.

Decided to try it again one more time before heading to sleep. I was finally able to improve the first level, and get the third to 1550. Its hosted on my site: Kung Fu by Deviance Version 6 Time Attack Details: Level 1: 1545 Level 2: 1557 Level 3: 1550 Level 4: 1544 Level 5: 1549

I've watched your new run, it's the same time as mine even if the movie info says it's slower. But Here are my thoughts on the levels of this game for future runs: Level 1: I'm really trying to find a way to make the first level quicker since it hasn't been improved in the past 5 attempts at this game. This is by far the hardest one to do faster. Level 2: this one seems to be the most dynamic. It gets improved almost every video, i'm sure it can be done quicker than 1556. Level 3: Maybe a couple more time units here and there, nothing too significant if it is played around the same way. (unless you do something weird and it happens to improve the time). Many different ways of killing the boss. Level 4: anyone who's done this game knows this is the most annoying one to do :P. I go 1545 in this level (in my third broken run) but have never been able to duplicate it. It could have been an error since i never got a chance to produce the movie. It all comes down to timing the low punches correctly. Level 5: I thought this was perfect till I saw Lezard's second run. We can get it to 1550 or above. I won't be able to try another run again till this weekend. Any comments on the above?

because Kung Fu is a relatively short and simple game. Zelda is much longer making it difficult for multiple attempts in a short period of time. (I've never much played it myself really :| )

I've done about one quarter of MM3 so far, but i've stopped because perfect sliding is very annoying to do (also, the movie keeps getting broken for some reason). Bisqwit and dustin have done MM3 (but one got out of sync and the other uses controller 2 debugging). I think Sleepz is doing a MM3 run as well.

i don't believe it has to do with the speed, i play at 20 fps, 40 fps, and at full speed and I get the same results. It all depends on timing of commands meaning that every action (not button presses that don't affect thomas) changes how the rest of the level will play out. Theres a lot of experimentation involved.

I think it's a little distracting having that controller down there. The more difficult parts in this video are done really fast so it's hard to see what button presses (also its not always in sync with the actual gameplay). Using common sense you can pretty much tell what buttons were pressed, I don't see the point.

what did you use to convert Lezard's movie to wmv? I use camtasia studio, but it doesn't work too well with something like smb.

maybe we should split this topic into two separate threads since it is discussing two different subjects. (Kung Fu and Site Suggestions)
