At first, I was skeptical about whether a hacked rom was okay to publish or not. Then I saw the run :) Awesome speed here, it's just amazing. I wonder if any bugs exploited here were a result of programming errors while coding Tails into the game?

Really great stuff here. I love how you hit the old man to get a damage boost.

I was just watching the very first TAS of Gimmick, which requires Famtasia to play, which was 8:37.50 in length. You can clearly see the difference in play style. For instance, it doesn't even bounce stars off walls to move faster, or use the death trick to skip collecting points at the end of a level. The current "Best Ending" run even beats it.

This should NOT replace anything. I believe that if PAL versions are significantly different, they should be separate. Like Rygar should have separate (E) and (U) runs. Of course, this is just my opinion. As for multi-region games which auto-detect speed and change mechanics accordingly, run them in whichever mode is faster.

This was a great run, very impressive stuff here. Just a few questions... Any way to deal with the lag on 8-1? And what was with the running into the wall at the end of 8-3? Was it to get the right subpixel coordinates? Any way to do the "jump into wall with nothing on top" glitch in the PAL version?

Voting NO because it doesn't take the shortcut to beat level 1 quickly. You can't miss something like that and still claim it's a TAS. It's like a SMB1 TAS that gets fireworks.

I never would have guessed that this game had warps.

By the way, both versions of the game include NTSC/PAL detection, so it will run correctly in either mode. I'd assume any speedrun of the game would run in NTSC mode, since it's faster.

How is a PC10 version or VS version a port? You're porting from the NES to the NES. For PC10, the only difference is how the chips are connected to the CPU. VS has a different palette, so the game needs some modifications there, then slight modifications to require coins to be inserted, but it's still not a port.

I wonder if jumping early in 1-2 would be faster than walking off?

My guess is to discourage you from playing old FCM files, because most would desync.

You don't really need to manipulate them, just regular save states is enough.

Here's a nasty bug in the debugger. Set a breakpoint that will happen. Don't enable it yet. Pause the emulator. Enable the breakpoint. Use the RUN button in the debugger to resume the emulator. When the game reaches the breakpoint, the next time you press Run in the debugger, it will crash. Edit: Bug was quickly fixed! Thanks ugetab.

FC is indeed an invalid opcode on the GBZ80, but why would the game jump to VRAM? Once you're in there, all bets are off regarding what instruction will be fetched if the screen is rendering.

Something happened to FCEUX, and it looks like the romhack Mario Vs Airman is broken now:

The bugs I was complaining about are all fixed in development versions. Maybe we need a lock on this thread.

Make sure you enable NTFS compression on your NES movie folder, so the FM2 files get compressed. Their size usually shrinks down to 25% of their original size.

So it looks like it's possible to pass the kill screen in TAS only. Also -1 for not shooting the dog.

Can you play Duck Hunt with a joystick with TAS? Just send the correct patterns to indicate a hit.

I thought it was interesting that they threw out the arcade levels later in the game, then threw them back in as bonus levels.

It looks like any WIPs of this game have dropped off the face of the planet. Anyone care to rehost?
