The run of Color a Dinosaur was legendary. It was played extremely well, despite the fact that it was non TAS. Some tricks couldn't be used but it was still the most amazing gaming display of the marathon so far.

How likely is it that we're ever going to see any form of Tingle Tuner support for Dolphin? At the moment it's required to do most of the speed tricks involving Zombie Hovering (it's used to heal Link so he doesn't actually die).
Tingle Tuner, I forgot about that. It requires the GBA hookup, right?

http://www.youtube.com/user/IAmElectrospecter An Earthbound TV intro, a lot of TAS stuff, some travel stuff, some stuff from when I was drunk, some obnoxious stuff, and even a YouTube Poop.

I'm having some issues with the plugin. Specifically I've mapped "up" on the analog stick to a keyboard key. It works fine normally (when I press that key, the analog stick is pressed up at a value of 127), but when I load a movie and begin re-recording, I'll press the button and the analog stick will go up only at a value of 1 (also the same issue with mapping down on the stick, I get a value of -1 after loading the state). EDIT: Ah, ok, the sliders were resetting. I guess it's not as much of a problem as I had thought... sorry.

New TAS-only trick found today that basically blows the game apart: superswimming without forest water. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktEAg1297-w This is done by alternating opposing directions every frame, so it's near impossible to do on console. Hopefully this will generate some interest in a TAS.
Reminds me of the BLJ. Can enough speed be obtained by doing this to pass through doors? (I haven't played the game in years, but I think I remember dungeon entrances that have stone slabs and such in front of them). Regardless, it cuts pretty much everything out of the game that would make it boring to watch in a TAS. I'm very pumped.

If one of the problems is not being able to see the score update, it should be somewhat easy search for the memory address(es) that handle the score, and it would also be easy to display the score with a very simple lua script. Specifically, it looks like there's something weird going on with the score, unfortunately. It looks like there's no single memory address that handles it, so there's probably a few different ones that get added together. For example, $002B counts the seconds elapsed (which is multiplied by 10 and added to your score). I can't really figure it out, so I suppose I shouldn't have said "somewhat easy," but I'm sure that someone more experienced than myself could figure it out.

I don't rate my own movies. However, as an example, it bugs me to see technical ratings as low as 7 on my my Kid Niki movie, though I know it can only be improved by 2~6 frames. It was one of the movies I optimized to death. Not that it matters... I don't care at all, but technical ratings are often flawed.
Technical ratings are very difficult, especially if you haven't ever played the game. I try to abstain from technical votes if I haven't played the game, and only really feel comfortable giving them if I've TASed it (or if the author's notes are exhaustive and technical with links to lua scripts and / or bots, etc.). I also feel that sometimes awkwardness or intrinsically clunky gameplay can be confounded with the author's technical skill.

Wren: I just ripped a .bin and .cue file from my disc and payed the movie file; I got the same desync. It's possible that we have a different version of the game than the one janus is using to TAS. Otherwise, I have no idea what's wrong.

So in other words, the first thing you'd do in a real-life TAS is train to optimize the process of TASing? ;)
You could wait a long time until most of TASvideos movies have been whittled down by frame wars until improvements are almost inconceivable; take all of the input files back into the present and begin submitting one maybe once a week, and all of the other users will hail you as a prodigy and then scratch their heads wondering what to do next.

Agh, that's way too obvious in retrospect. By the way, did you happen to get those descriptions from anywhere in particular? I tried the menu in the game but the help command wasn't very helpful.

I finally finished watching it! I was surprised at the fact that you never actually needed to finish a single random encounter, which is impressive! The only boss you seem to have struggled on was Gremlin, but it was actually kind of suspenseful and entertaining. I'm also glad you went for the "best" ending and found Chun-Li. Yes vote. Also, I still don't understand the abbreviations of the items to this day. Stn? Also, I always assumed D.Hrt was Dragon Hurt, since it... hurts dragons. Oh, and yes vote.

EDIT: Well I've got the emulator running but the file desynchronized in the first fight (possibly during the text before the fight) and I can't help but wonder if it's because my image file was a rip I made myself. The file is an .img file and I think I heard somewhere that you need to use a bin and cue file... which I can't rip my CD into.
Hm, I was always under the impression that if you owned the game you could just pop it in your CD drive and watch the movie that way. I've TASed a tiny bit of Brave Fencer Musashi using my own disc, but I've never tried watching a movie recorded from a .bin .cue file using my own disc (I do own BOFIII as well but I'm currently feeling too lazy to get the correct plugins, which I'm missing for some reason). Come to think of it, if it doesn't work, it's actually kind of sad that a ripped file works over the physical copy of the disc. Does it have to do with loading times?

Have to agree with you on this one. I'm going to watch this now! EDIT: Okay, what the hell is wrong with the ending story? "He will return one day to" ...to what? The game itself is entertaining, whether TASed or not, which helps. Looks pretty optimized too. Yes!

Disable background layers, like the sky or buildings. Also, corner boosting. But I feel like this would scrape skin off of you.

How would frame advance work in real life? There are obviously more than 60 "frames" per second in real life, but the question is, are there infinitely many? I honestly don't know the answer, as I have never studied physics in great detail.

I'm very sure I've read that the code was used because it makes the game shorter, with the code, you get both Kongs at the start of each level, DK Barrels would only waste time by hitting them since the game stops for a short amount of time, and you don't get default 2 Kongs at the start of the level, or at least that's what I gather from having read that the code makes it faster, by how much, I don't know
Actually, if we had DK barrels in this TAS, the run would be shorter. The most time saved would be from Buzzer Barrage, as you can really plow right through all the enemies, and breaking a DK barrel while transformed into Squawks (or any animal buddy) does not waste time. If you watch Buzzer Barrage from the any% run and compare it to this one, you'll see what I mean. EDIT: Also, as far as the submission text goes, we could add the following under Tricks and Glitches:
! Reset

A reset is used right at the beginning of the run so that the intro may be skipped.

! TUFST

This code (toughest) is entered before name entry to "increase" the difficulty of the game. All it really does is during gameplay is remove the DK and checkpoint barrels, and gives you both Kongs at the beginning of each level (whether you have them or not). The main reason this code is used though is because it allows us to attain 105% instead of 103%.

(Side note: I assume turbo B makes Engarde, swimming, and Squawks work on a fastest frame regardless? This was the only thing in the run I noticed to be questionable.)
oh about that, B makes Squawks fly faster, turbofiring it is the best method I assume, but it's questionable for Engarde, he does that attack that speeds him up with B, but I don't know if turbofiring it is the best way to go… I'd assume so
I know I already mentioned this to you in IRC, ALAKTORN, but for the sake of others: You are allowed to start a new dash with Enguarde ~15-20 frames before the end of his current dash, so turbo will take care of that.

Should the encode be modified to skip 7 minutes of wait time, or should the movie play a few extra inputs for "fastest time to get to 105% screen." The movie file would be about a minute and a half longer.
Yes, this was something we haven't mentioned yet. If it's acceptable, we would like to request that the encoder press a button to progress to this screen.

ive been watching all the wips, but i realy didnt notice how the 2nd stage in the first world can realy be improved first when the kongs jumps to hang the pull to open the door, sixie satys flying in the air, till she gets killed, then kiddy goes on. (about 9600 frames) --- wy dont you go walking much fater than flying, and why let dixxie get killed?
This allows Kiddie to pass through a much smaller opening. Watch closely at how low the door is (meaning we can hang on the door lever for a shorter time).

The bee will kill Kiddie if we leave him there too long, so it's faster to open the door a bit, dodge the bee (which means jumping off, unfortunately) and then jumping back on.

Submission text = so awesome. Also, my lua script link appears to have expired. Is there a way to get pastebin to keep lua scripts up indefinitely? Also, there are a couple glitch explanations that I may want to add to the submission text. Could I get permission to edit?

I might be able to verify what you want to know through some sort of code... maybe one to make it so you always catch a big fish or something. If it's like BoF4 each fish has a max limit to its points given so I could probably narrow that value down or something.
Nice code! I guess what I've been wondering is if it really is possible to get a score of 9,999. A fellow named Terence produced the formula for the fish scoring for me a while ago as well as maximum scores for each fish. The formula is:
Points = [[10 * Catch Length / Target Length] * Max Points / 10]
Now, he either derived the max scores for individual fish from that formula or just pulled them directly from the ROM or whatever, but the problem (and I've experienced this personally as well as reading posts from others) is that some fish just seem impossible to catch at max length. There's either something weird going on in the code that prevents you from doing this, or maybe the chances are just incredibly low. Thinking about it now, this may make sense (especially for fish that have longer lengths) if the population of any given type of fish is distributed Normally. Extreme lengths would be very rare. I have caught full length fish though, on console, like a 200 cm barandy (one that many people have had trouble with).

They may be laggy, but the credits music is super epic and catchy, which is surprising considering the quality of the game! Also voting yes as a good improvement. I actually don't mind watching this game being played, barring stupid graphical errors in the programming (lightning in the catacombs? You bet!)

Interesting, I knew that this game moved slowly, but I didn't know it was slow enough where you could easily read the dialogue in a TAS. This might actually a plus! Also, I would LOVE to see a maxed fishing score, if only to validate all of the theories I (and others) have laid out here. But also because it would be fun to watch.
