I don't think the writing of My Little Pony is necessarily average; it's just not written for you. I found the episode Look Before you Sleep to be a good example of this. The dialog was boring and predictable, the characterization simple and unbelievable. As an adult, I felt my intelligence was insulted by watching it... except that I wasn't being written for. It was written for the seven year old girl who I was babysitting at the moment, and on that level, the writing was actually pretty good! It'd be like dismissing a children's book on the basis of not being Shakespeare. Now the G3 cartoons... I an also see where Bobo is coming from with regards to adult themes and entertainment. Sometimes, as adults, you want to get away from all that "mature" stuff and settle down with something good, clean, and wholesome, something you wouldn't mind showing whatever young children are in your care, but can enjoy without them being around. Pixar is very good at this sort of thing. Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up. -CS Lewis

I would say it's a case of memetic saturation, and not of masculinity. Something experiences a massive surge of popularity, some people check it out and see nothing all that special, but see how people in circles they are part of get obsessed with it, talking about it for no good reason. It is viewed as invasive and unwelcome; these people have pony topics elsewhere, quite talking about it here! Add to that the fact that My Little Pony has been a franchise aimed squarely at little girls for nearly 30 years, and the amount of confusion and irritance only increases. So yeah, I can understand how people may react violently. They don't think it's funny, just annoying.

Freud would have had a field day with that.
I don't think Freud is necessary for a field day to be had.

But why can it only be done with Zero? What's stopping Ultimate X from taking a hit from Sigma and boosting over?

Cross posting from another forum. I think I just had my first real nightmare. There was some odd tradition/superstition related to New Years, so the time was a little over a month ago. The thing was, if you left a nametag on an empty, unmade bed near on open window so it could be seen from the outside, the bed would mysteriously be made up the next time someone checked it in the new year. So I decided to throw a nametag onto a bed with the curtains open and retired to my own. The next bit involves some sleep paralysis. Apparently, other strange things would happen. Because of what I did, soon after I fell asleep, it felt like something hit my neck; opening my eyes, I was a bit freaked out to see it was some grotesque, disembodied monster arm, draped across my throat. However, I was too tired to deal with it, so I just tossed it aside and would deal with it later. After hearing some voices talking about the danger I was in, I opened my eyes. And saw said arm somehow propping itself up, its hand open and aiming right for my throat, getting ready to strangle me. I was seriously freaked out and started screaming. I'll have to ask my parents if they heard me. In reality, it was just a shelf I have hanging over my bed; the dark light and my state of consciousness made it look different. But still, I'd never been so scare while I was sleeping.

According to this Youtube video, the Skiver's armor part should be obtainable the first time around. Is Ultimate X Just not quite equipped for that?

Sometimes I have to wonder about the future of the franchise. It's unlikely the current cartoon will get more than the standard 65 episodes. How will fans hold up after that? Will various sites start drying up? And it's obvious that Hasbro will continue with different incarnations of the franchise. How will they treat G5, G6, and onward? Will they focus back on little girls, or will they continue trying to confuse grown men? How will the fans of G4 treat these?

That's a known issue in VBA. Certain frames around loading spots will be held abnormally long. The opening of Daikatana has a frame that lasts at least a second. Also, the timing of some emulators isn't exactly 60 fps. FCEUX, from my understanding, is a touch faster than that.

Yeah, it's strange. Back when xipo submitted his run I was in favor of that version obsoleting the one I did. However, I find myself not agreeing with this obsoletion, so both times I didn't get what I wanted! Anyway, I can't really say more than has already been said. Yes, the NES version may have been trying to imitate this, and they may be portraying the same game, but the mechanics between the two are very different. It feels wrong to hold them to the same standard.

I'm sorry, gotta vote no on multiple accounts. -New version. Only because it took the charming Cocoron music and ran it through a woodchipper. The newer, legally safe music is just awful. -Goal choice. Barging through the levels is not interesting to watch. -Not optimized. I noticed more than once you ran into walls without giving yourself proper clearance to get by as quick as possible.

A lot of Twilight's lines, especially when she went on and on about doing "scientific research." And everyone going on and on about "the doozy." Not to say all of it was bad; indeed, the "frog on your face" exchange was by and large very good. Generally I just find any episode that gives a large focus on Twilight to be not very good. Lesson Zero genuinely surprised me by actually being quite enjoyable in spite of that.

Feeling Pinkie Keen is a pretty good summary of the series as a whole: some good, some bad, obviously for kids through and through. Had some truly great slapstick humor that's been lackluster in cartoons lately, animation was really good, but good criminey were the writing and voice acting terrible! Likewise, Suited for Success is pretty fantastic, but Dragonshy was really underwhelming and hammy.

At one point last night, someone in dreamland was playing Elvis's Can't Help Falling in Love on a piano. I woke up and had that song stuck in my head. I also had a small case of sleep paralysis. Every time I tried to get up, I'd find myself back in bed a few seconds later. Strange thing was, though, that I heard someone mention, "Before you get up, make sure you are conscious." Self referential dreams like that really spook me.

I had a dream last night that I was browsing the internet. I glance at an ad for "stopbean.com", which consists of nothing but a text box and a confirmation button. I move on to another website. Suddenly, Rowan Atkinson comes up behind me and starts harrassing me-- poking me, slapping me, flicking me. I push him away and quickly change back to the tab with the advertisement. I then see that it's subtitled, "Your #1 site for getting Mr. Bean to stop attacking you." I try to enter something into the text box, which is really hard since I'm turned halfway away from my computer, kicking Mr. Bean away with one foot. Finally, I manage to type "stopbean=true" and click the button. I turn around and he's standing there, smiling politely at me.
This needs to be made reality stat!

Answer 1: Not surprised. The main creative force, Lauren Faust, recently left. Answer 2: Surprising. Season 1 was pretty uneven already.

Indeed. Can you give me some more specifics about what happened? Namely, can you tell me what happens to address $0FF6 at the time of death?

I like how the true final boss is an ox. I like the ox. I'd watch a run that plays as the ox.
