I think the best version combination would be Yellow, Gold/Silver, and Crystal. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Game-exclusive_Pok%C3%A9mon As shown in these charts, all Pokemon that are not in Yellow are in all Gen 2 games, while Vulpix(in case you choose GC) and Mankey(in case you choose SC) can be found in Yellow. A key difference in Crystal is that Sneasel is found at the Ice Path instead of at Mt. Silver, and Larvitar can be purchased at Celadon Game Corner with 8888C. This Larvitar is at Lv40, which is much higher than the level of any wild Larvitar you can find at Mt.Silver. However, Misdreavus is only available at Mt. Silver in all Gen 2 games, thus it is the bottleneck of the run, just like Mewtwo in MrWint's R/B 150 TAS. The best plan is probably to have either G or S rushing to Mt. Silver by getting all Kanto Badges and C collecting legendaries(since you have to revive three beasts any way) and getting coins in Celadon Game Corner for Larvitar. It might be a good idea to use the Yellow rom from 3DS VC so you can play the surfing minigame in case there is much free time.

Really didn't expect this game to require that much accuracy on emulation. It seems all the records on speedrun.com use the GBC version, but I guess the zip in 2-1 on GB version still makes it the better choice for TASing?

https://www.speedrun.com/wl2#Main_Story1 The page on speedrun.com states that "Using out of bounds goal doors in 2-4 is not permitted, as doing so will not allow you to advance to the next level on console/virtual console." What is this about? Is it because that level does not use goal doors as exits?

Link to video http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/30445013993013368 At long last, it's over. The input ends at 3:24:15.74, the in game time is 3:22. It surely needs a lot more optimization, but I'm still surprised that it's only about 25 minutes faster than the RTA WR, with inaccurate emulation. :( I guess the advantage of TASing became smaller starting from FR/LG. (MKD's FR run:1:44:17, Exarion's RTA:1:59:51; GM's EM testrun:2:18:04, Exarion's RTA:2:33:12) http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Facade_%28move%29 Now I'm wondering if giving Chimchar an everstone to delay the evolution until Lv31 to make it learn Facade is worthy. The TM for Facade is not available until after E4.

I just noticed that unlike in the previous run, you fought Hiker Mike in Rusturf Tunnel. Is this actually faster than going through Fallarbor Town again to get to Mt. Chimney and getting HM04 latter on?

Link to video Another one from Werster. It reminds me there are a few that I didn't upload. Link to video Getting mystic water before getting Surf and 5th badge. Fly is required to get out of that place. Link to video Getting into Lake Valor without Surf. This is one of the few places in D/P/Pt where running tweak actually works like it does in HG/SS. You can trigger the Galactic event at Lake Verity much earlier now, but you still need Strength and 6th badge to get to Route 216. It's also possible to skip the mandatory trainer on Route 222 with void tweak. The tweaking on Route 206 works the same way as in MKD's run. You can skip both professor's helper and other trainers on Route 207 just like in D/P.

I am pretty impressed by how good this game is graphic-wise. The addition of poisonous mushroom and the fact that the final boss is replaced by... something other than the typical Bowser fight are also great. Sega does what Nintendon't!

Instant yes vote since I already saw this on nicovideo.
Now Maxim pretty much goes to one boss fight right after another. Excellent improvement. Could you please post the lua for Bizhawk you used to make the run?

Sorry for not reading all the previous 11 pages. Has there been any discussion about poison status abuse? I wonder if it's possible to get poisoned before the 4th gym battle, and white out inside the gym to skip Go-Goggles. Maybe Abra won't be needed anymore if this is practical. Another possibly helpful place to get fainted is inside the Devon Corporation. This might not help in the current route though since Taillow is supposed to get raralysis condition inside the forest. The player's team is automatically healed when the player gets into the Devon Corporation in Emerald so this one only works in R/S. BTW, are there any possibility that an optimized Mudkip/Kyogre run can be faster than Taillow route for Sapphire? As mentioned in the submission text, Taillow doesn't work as well against Team Aqua, and Kyogre is only available in Sapphire. The poison status abuse at Devon Corporation might work in this case, too.

Congrats on the progress! Link to video It seems someone on Nicovideo is working on an improvement too. BTW, what's the reason that there are separate categories for J and U versions of the game on https://www.speedrun.com/Soul_Blazer ?

IIRC, unlike Bonsly, which is available in Battle Bingo, Munchlax is never programmed to be used in battle. Maybe you are talking about Bonsly? Back on topic, does this method of ACE have the potential to give the player 4 stars on trainer card right away?

Link to video This is a test-run for DoS made by mtbRc, mentioned in his submission text: #4070: mtbRc's DS Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow "Julius Mode" in 09:01.49. In this video, Alucard somehow moved back in bounds after setting the flag for Abyss portal. I PMed him to ask how this works, but I think the chance he would ever reply is rather low because he hasn't posted since July 2014. If it turns out to be possible to get back to the pyramid after setting the flag for the entrance of throne room, it would be great. However, it has to be timed to see if such method is actually faster than finishing the game normally due to how slow the sisters move when staying out of bounds.

This is surprising. What's the reason Mario and Luigi makes so much difference in time for RTA then? :/ Maybe a lunar dragon run without completing all exists can be interesting?

Link to video I remember I almost went out of bounds in the pyramid when I was playing the sisters mode, and I reproduced it. This results in the player falling through the map like what you can do in the main mode of this game and in DoS. I don't know if there is a way to get in bound since you can't suspend in this mode. I also don't know if it's possible to do memory corruption while moving out of bounds like in DoS.

Don't know if this has been posted here. Link to video In this video, around 9:00, the ability of double jump is acquired along with Doppelganger. I reproduced this glitch by doing what the video shows. Strange enough, the corresponding ability soul doesn't show up in ability screen, and the soul collection rate only increases by 0.8%, the amount for a single soul. I guess this phenomenon is caused by the fact that the player skips Balore, the first ability soul. Don't know if this is useful for any categories though. For in bounds, you do need to go out of bound to skip Balore so it doesn't work(unless a way to skip Balore without out of bound is found). For all souls, even if it's allowed to go out of bound as long as there is no memory correction, you probably will still have to beat the corresponding boss to get the soul.

Nice video Fortranm, but I didn't understand how you can change the castle without warp room?
If you mean the video from Nicovideo, it's not mine. The author is gstick. I'm just posting it here. This video is abusing the wrong warps that are used in most HoD TASes. Many of the wrong warps allow you to get into another castle without using warp rooms.

Link to video With all due respect, I would expect a movie that makes Juste literally unable to move as a proper "fastest lock" run. Voting no. :(

Interesting to see a serious TAS on this day, every other year, for the same game, from the same person. Obvious YES vote. Already pumped to see another one on 2018 or 2019.

Just saw the part where you talked about ACE. Sorry that I didn't read the whole thing first. How different is normal Pomeg glitch from ACE then? Is it possible to get the Fly location for Battle Frontier through RAM corruption similar to how you get to Ever Grande City? It's probably better to end the run at HoF.

I thought the method of ACE for this game was found around 2 years ago? Is the ACE unable to make you have 4 stars on Trainer Card right away yet?
