It's a PC game, and PC games don't use emulators, so they can't be TASed.

Uh, Mister Epic... we don't work in 1080p anymore... we encode HD videos in even higher resolution now, and YouTube accepts them. We do this to remove the borders.
What's the resolution now? I will redo it.

You say you're trying to encode a TAS at 1080p HD? I really highly suggest you contact me, I've recently changed how HD encoding works... and, well... the old method aint gonna cut it. It's obsolete and shouldn't be used for publication anymore.
By making almost no changes to the old method, I could make a fully-fonctional 60fps 1080p encode, with the logo and the subtitles combined! I'm going to upload the result to YouTube.

You need to specify your fps using -ofps, check out the mencoder man pages for more details.
Good. I'll remember that. But I won't reencode that Mario run since I think it won't pass.

your audio began desyncing towards the end of the run, the sound was slightly ahead of the video. This tells me that you probably accidentally encoded the video at 60fps instead of 60.1 fps.
Damn! It's mistake after mistake! That's the result of seeing "Skipping frame!" while I combine the logo, the recording and the subtitles... There wasn't any desyncing in my latest encode. What's wrong with this batch script?
start /wait mencoder.exe -oac copy -mc 0 -font subfont.ttf -nofontconfig -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=ffv1:format=bgr32 -oac pcm -sub subtitle2.sub -subfont-text-scale 4 -subfont-outline 4 -o mixed2.avi logo2.avi recorded2.avi -subpos 0 -subalign 0

I like this run. I think the author got really near of coins to impress the viewers! I liked when he used Goombas to climb up a pit! Yes vote from me + claiming encode (not in HD yet, I'm experimenting that kind of encode).

As soon as I read this part, I got to x264's official website to download the latest 64-Bit version (since I have that kind of processor), and now it works! Thanks!

I stopped as many processes as possible, but it still doesn't work. And I don't think it's because I don't have enough memory. Here's a video explaining my problem : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1QwRmYnZGg

I'm trying to encode a TAS in 1080p Full-HD. Everything was fine, until I get to convert the video stream (after I mixed the logo, the run and the subtitles) in an MP4, using x264.exe. I get that error. Here's the code of the batch file.
x264 --crf 20 --keyint 600 --ref 16 --no-fast-pskip --bframes 16 --b-adapt 2 --direct auto --me umh --merange 64 --subme 10 --trellis 2 --partitions all --fullrange on --rc-lookahead 250 --no-dct-decimate -o encoded.mp4 mixed.avi
You probably already know this, but it's supposed to convert mixed.avi into encoded.mp4 (without the sound). I don't have any problem with sound convertion. The codec used in mixed.avi is FFV1 (FFDShow). Can you tell me what's wrong with the batch file?

I have a complaint. This encode uses the "PSG High Quality" option, which is very bad. I suggest adding it to the emulator settings page to avoid problems in future.
PSG High Quality? It's the first time I read that. I'm gonna check out Gens' options. Sorry for that! That was a noob mistake and I will disable it for my next Genesis/Megadrive/Sega CD/Mega CD/32X encode.

If I want to watch them in fullscreen, I watch them in 1080p, since it's my monitor's native resolution. Otherwise, it's 480p.

Same thing for the other TAS videos. I wasn't expecting that.

You can add publishers and encoders to the show's user list, as long as they have a ScrewAttack account.

Looks like 320x240. I think we should resize the videos before we upload them because their resizer is awful.
Or we can encode them at a higher resolution, since they support "HD", even if I think it's not real HD.

How powerful is your computer? What does it have inside? You can tell it here. My desktop PC's specs Processor/CPU : Intel Core i7 920, 2.66 Ghz, Quad-Core, Overclocked to 3,2 Ghz Motherboard : Asus Rampage III Extreme, ATX Memory : G-Skill F3-12800CL9-2GBNQ, 2 GB of DDR3, 1333 Mhz (I got 3 of them, for a total of 6 GB) Video card/GPU : ATI Radeon HD 5870, 1 GB of GDDR5 (I got 2 of them, in CrossFireX) Hard Drive : 1 TB, 7200 RPM Operating system : Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Optical drive : It can do everything, even burn Blu-Ray discs. I also have a laptop, but I simply posted the specifications of the computer where I do my TAS encodes.

I think it's the right place to make that king of suggestions. If it's not, feel free to move. I found another website where we can upload encoded tool-assisted speedruns. It's ScrewAttack.com. It's a website where anyone can post blogs and videos about video games. Sure, the site's staff has their own videos, but it's doesn't prevent anyone to upload anything gaming-related. About the video, the maximum file size is 500 MB. You can add tags too. It has its own embeddable flash video player, so it's possible to embed it in the publication's page on TASvideos.org. An interesting feature is the fact that we can create a "show" which is a page where multiple videos are grouped together. Multiple users can upload videos on the same show (it's up to the show's owner to add users). But I don't think it supports 60 FPS. The encoding will probably reduce the frame rate to 30 FPS. And I'm not sure about the time limit, since they don't talk about that. Here are some screenshots and links to show how it does look like. Video page Video uploading form Show starting form Show's user manager Show page Embeddable player So, what do you think?

Here is the updated version of my encode. Not only I set the -par1, but I also reencoded the run to make a higher quality and smaller video, thanks to FFV1. Archive.org Viddler Dailymotion Still no YouTube link. Screenshot is still the same.

Well I'm still reencoding the video, since I could manage to make FFV1 to work, for quality's sake.

Thanks for you suggestions! I'm gonna use FFV1 and the Camstudio lossless codec.

Here's my encode for that improved run. Archive.org Dailymotion Viddler Sorry, no YouTube link. The video is longer than YouTube's limit. Here's a screenshot.

Hello there. I already encoded a run now. Instead of using codecs such as H.264 lossless and FFV1, I don't even compress the video, to keep the quality as high as possible. I have a question about combining the recording, the logo and the subtitles. This is the actual batch script I use.
start /wait mencoder.exe -oac copy -mc 0 -vf flip -font subfont.ttf -nofontconfig -ovc lavc -sub subtitle.sub -subfont-text-scale 4 -subfont-outline 4 -o mixed.avi logo.avi recorded.avi
By the way, there's a long story behind the inclusion of -vf flip. After I run that batch script, I see that the video is compressed and that the quality is lowered a bit. Is there a way to avoid the compression? Like a command I can add or something like that. I only want to compress when I get to convert the AVI into an MP4. (I'm not perfect in English)
