At last! GC/Wii TASing has arrived on TASVideos! I'd like to encode this, but this emulator is pretty hardcore, so I can't wait to see a video dumping guide for this console. I've enjoyed this game on Xbox LIVE Arcade. I guess the Wii version is the same. I'm used to see glitchfests when it comes to NES Mega Man TASes, but this one is actually a Wii Mega Man TAS, even if it looks like an NES one (unless it's emulation). Can't wait for an encode.

Well this one doesn't have a lot of feedback. I guess 15 audio files was a bit too much. Anyway, here is the encoding process behind each file. Audio 1.flac = WAV -> OGG 320 CBR -> FLAC Audio 2.flac = WAV -> OGG 128 VBR -> FLAC Audio 3.flac = WAV -> MP3 320 CBR -> FLAC Audio 4.flac = WAV -> AAC 320 CBR -> FLAC Audio 5.flac = WAV -> AAC 320 VBR -> FLAC Audio 6.flac = WAV -> FLAC Audio 7.flac = WAV -> OGG 128 CBR -> FLAC Audio 8.flac = WAV -> OGG 320 VBR -> FLAC Audio 9.flac = WAV -> OGG 320 CBR -> AAC 256 CBR -> MP3 192 CBR -> FLAC Audio 10.flac = WAV -> AAC 128 VBR -> FLAC Audio 11.flac = WAV -> MP3 128 VBR -> FLAC Audio 12.flac = WAV -> MP3 320 VBR -> FLAC Audio 13.flac = WAV -> AAC 256 CBR -> MP3 192 CBR -> FLAC Audio 14.flac = WAV -> AAC 128 CBR -> FLAC Audio 15.flac = WAV -> MP3 128 CBR -> FLAC I like how nobody chose Audio 6. I guess this proves my point. People wouldn't hear the differences between lossless and lossy. It may depend on the device used to listen as well. But three answers isn't much. I guess I'll put this blind test on my YouTube channel.

Oh nice! Thanks for the info. I'll vote Meh for your run. I like how you made this game look easy, while it's, in fact, impossible to jump and it's possible to get caught in a dead end because of an enemy. But, I think this game is just boring to watch.

I've watched your run, and I have a question for you, Brandon. What kind of luck manipulation is used in this run? I've seen you did a great job avoiding enemies considering you can't jump at all, and you can't get caught in a dead end. Is that the manipulation?

As I said, I've made another Blind Test. I've encoded the same part of a classical music that even your unborn baby knows. That tune was taken from a classical music compilation CD. It was ripped in WAV format. Then, I've taken one minute of it, and I did the stuff with it. Click here to download all 15 FLAC files in a ZIP. Each file is encoded differently before it was encoded into FLAC, except one, which is simply encoded in FLAC directly from the WAV. If you're interested, you can listen to each of these FLAC files, and vote on the one that sounds the best for you. If you can't hear a difference between each of these files, there's an option for that as well. I'll reveal the list of all the process behind each FLAC files later, in a spoiler. If you're going to try this, thank you.

Thank you for your ideas and your answers. Looks like you prefer Audio 2, but by reading your replies, it seems that the differences are really small. The 2nd most answered option is "I can't tell". So yeah, the differences are small. I think the best use of FLAC is for storage and editing. It can also be useful if you want to upload a video to a streaming site like YouTube, since it compresses the audio. Now, these audio files are being unmasked. Audio 1 = WAV -> 128 kbps MP3 -> FLAC Audio 2 = WAV -> FLAC Audio 3 = WAV -> 320 kbps MP3 -> FLAC I'll make a new blind test of this kind later, using your suggestions and ideas. I'll use another music type, since you're telling me that techno isn't the kind of music to use for this kind of test, because the sounds are synthesized. I don't think Rock can do the trick, since the electric guitar is distorted. So I'll go with DarkKobold's suggestion, which is Classical music, since all of the sounds are recorded authentically. Also, I'll go with Flygon and Bobo the King's idea to encode more files using more audio codecs. Plus, I'll make CBR and VBR audio files, and I'll encode lossy tunes into lossy tunes. So expect more FLAC to download for the next test. I'll make a new thread for the new test.

To be honest, I think your music selection of techno for this test wasn't the best. I'd like you to rerun the test on something like classical music.
I'll wait for a couple votes on this one, and then I'll start another blind test with classical music. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok ok I'll convert the whole stuff in FLAC. EDIT: The blind test is ready.

You should have made it a blind test, and have people guessing.
Nice idea! Let's randomize the stuff. EDIT: I don't think I can rename the files on MediaFire without removing the extension. People would still know which files are encoded in which format.

I didn't make this thread to change my way to encode audio for TASVideos. It's my own personal research. I'll still use FLAC as the audio codec for my YouTube encodes, because YouTube compresses it anyway. This thread is for everyone. I'd like opinions from anyone, no matter if you're experienced in audio encoding or not at all. If you paid over 9000 dollars on headphones, or if you're using these earbuds that come with an iPod, I'd also like your opinion. There are people who pretend that they can hear a difference between lossless audio and lossy audio. What's the difference between them? Lossless audio is encoded from an uncompressed audio, without losing any important data, so you can hear absolutely everything from a sound. The file size is freaking big, but you miss nothing at all. Examples of lossless audio are FLAC and ALAC (Apple Lossless). Lossy audio is encoded from an uncompressed audio, by losing data. It makes waaaaaaaaaay smaller files than lossless audio, but the quality is lowered. But why are lossy audio so much used? It's because (I think that) the average Joe can't hear a difference between lossy and lossless when it comes to simply listening to music. Examples of lossy audio are MP3, OGG and AAC. ---- TL;DR. Let's get to the main point. Today I've found some of my favorite tunes in WAV format. I was like "Yay! Finally! I can hear why FLAC maniacs can hear a difference between lossless and lossy!". Then I've encoded a part of that tune in FLAC, MP3 (320 kbps) and MP3 (128 kbps). I've compared all three of them, and even if I tried to hear a difference, I couldn't. I've tested them in VLC media player, using a Logitech G35 headset. So I got the idea to share these pieces of music with you, so you can compare them and tell me if you hear a difference between these three audio files I've encoded. But they are all encoded in FLAC. Two of them were encoded in MP3 (one is 320, and the other is 128) before they were converted back to FLAC. It's like a blind test, if you wish. Audio 1 Audio 2 Audio 3 I seriously can't hear a difference between these three files. I'd use FLAC for editing and producing, but I don't see the point of using it just to listen to music. It's like 5 to 6 times bigger than a good lossy audio file. Anyway, I'm still storing these tunes in ALAC format in my iPod Touch because it's 64 GB big and it has too much room for my music, videos, photos and apps. So, do you hear a difference between them?

I know this isn't a platform to TAS, but here's how a G&W TAS would look like. Link to video Just for fun.

Hello Ansem and welcome to TASVideos! If you want to start TASing, you'll first need one of the emulators given on this website (Wiki: EmulatorResources). Choose the one you want according to the system. Then, you'll need the ROM or the ISO of the game you want to TAS. We cannot give you links to these here. It's up to you to find the ROM/ISO of the game. You'll have the basic necessary material to TAS a game. The emulators on this site have everything you need to TAS. You can ask more about the tools here. Hope you have fun TASing!

I know there are also a PlayStation version and a Saturn version of this game. Do you think there are differences between the SNES version and these ones?

Because I know almost nothing about LUA. So that LUA script would trigger that early touch automatically?

I ain't gonna try again at Magnetica, but I'll share the luck manipulating trick I've found while TASing the game. You can actually choose which color you want to shoot. Look at the animation right below. At the left, you see how an absolutely normal shoot would look like. The game picked Blue randomly for the canon's queue. At the right, you see that the Red ball shook a little bit and then a Red ball appeared instead of the Blue one in the canon's queue. That's because I touched the next Red ball while it wasn't ready to be shot. In other words, I touched it too early. The shaking animation is there to tell the player to wait a little bit. But for some reason, if you touch the ball at the exact right moment before the next ball gets ready, then you'll get any other ball. So with that trick, you can decide which color do you want, and then you'll probably get the Luckiest TAS of the year, if you're patient enough to make a complete Challenge mode run using this trick. That's not what I am, so I ain't doing it. Also, it looks time consuming at its best, since you must try a couple times, trying to touch at the exact right moment, and trying to get the exact color you want, for each ball you shoot! It looks like a pain in the ass. inb4 lol + sex jokes

sonicpacker How do you make your music? What do you use? How much does it cost? I'd love to make UK style Hardcore, like that kind of shit you hear in Bonkers and Hardcore Nation. I think I'm able to compose great tunes, but I don't have the stuff to make my imagination real.

It's no longer the case for a lot of people. I have no time limit, for free and without any action from me. I can try encoding this one.

I have a suggestion to make the encoding communication less obstrusive for (the majority of) people who just want to see comments about a submitted run: Indicate you're working on an encode by appending to the submission text (like with judging) rather than posting a message. This makes intuitive sense to me as well b/c these messages eg "working on HD encode" are processing-related, rather than commentary on the run itself. Perhaps you could then figure out a standard way to inline the encodes just underneath (or above?) the player's comments -- making for both less message clutter and a more convenient/standardized user experience. Once the relevant encode(s) are posted, that text could be deleted. Just a suggestion...you guys are the best!
No matter how I tell it, I just like to tell I'm doing the job. If it really annoys people to post a reply telling I'm encoding, then what you said is a great idea. But there's a single problem. Not all encoder is an editor.
