A grued split from a grued movie?
Everything takes time to get good at, even TASing, a great way to stop a lot of people from keeping trying to get better at something is being so insulting. Sounds like your issue is more with the what is being allowed to be published, maybe better taking that up with the judges.
You can dive from the snow onto the icey platform without the bounce, it's faster try to avoid bouncing if you can.
Edit:
I'm just uploading one I made. Though there'll be better ones.

Ah I see. Well I'll play around with more levels and see if I can't get some other fast routes. I'd bet that the fastest way to beat the game without the A button would have to collect 70 stars unless there's some glitch I'm unaware of to get through star doors without BLJing. And even then, I'm not sure if you can beat all three bowsers without the A button so I'm not sure it can even be done. But if it can, I'm sure we could all figure it out.
I did one level decently so you could try and beat that.[/shameless self promotion]
Sonicpacker did a bit, Plush did a few plus there's the 20 star run.
Of course coming up with optimal routes when that hasn't been done before would still be useful for a full run.
GIMP works well, I use that. Though there's no preview so you need to work out the gap between frames. You can just use it's crop tools. Though you need a video to JPEG converter.
Is a new 0 star run in the works? It's really sad that the newest one is over three years out of date. The only runs since then have just been done by a few people, and I don't think there's been as much work in the camera angles.
He still has to go through that door to load it, so the second Bowser key is needed. Unfortunately.
You should check out the moat skip if you want to see the best chance of a Bowser skip. However that currently needs the wing cap.
I used pannenkoek's MHS script he included in the video. I just set Mario's X and Y to different values until I figured it out.
I also found it helpful to add 00C258C8 , 00C258D0 to there, which seem to be other components of mario's movement. Does anyone know exactly how Mario moves?
@MartyOak: what levels in Mario have ceilings below other ceilings ? Maybe that is a good place to start. Although it must be extremely precise for it to be so rare and for no one to have figured it out yet, so my guess is that it won't particularly be easier in another spot.
My current guess is that mario is moving across the triangle boundary in some way such that when he lands and his speed gets clamped to zero something goes awry in ceiling detection.
Off the top of my head BiTFS, BiTS, Whomp's Fortress, I think SSL has some in the pyrimid, HMC probably does. That's all that comes to mind, but I probably missed some.
