It's a movie, made in 1965 I believe. The full name is "Manos" The Hands of Fate, and yes those are quotation marks present for absolutely no reason; what makes it even funnier is that "manos" is Spanish for "hands", so the proper title would be "Hands" The Hands of Fate. It's considered by many to be the absolute worst film ever made, and I already mentioned some of the parallels it has with Cheetahmen II. Actually, here's another one: - Manos quickly faded into obscurity, but gained interest when the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 showed it in what is considered to be one of its all-time best episodes; Cheetahmen II quickly faded into obscurity, but (IIRC) gained interest when a man who had 1500 copies of it in a warehouse sold them all to a collector, who in turn sold them to various people, mostly collectors and at least one who dumped the ROM. EDIT: Did you delete your post, Ferret? -Josh

Hell, Dark Castle got published specifically because it's such a laughably bad game, IIRC. I've been thinking about doing Wayne's World, but to be entertaining it can't be a true timeattack; you'd have to show off Wayne's spinning karate kick of death (which is never worth using) and show everyone the awful dialogue (badly butchered snippets of the old SNL skits). But no...Cheetahmen II beats them all. Let me put it this way: - Manos was the product of a fertilizer salesman from Texas who had no prior filmmaking experience; Cheetahmen II was the product of a company which had almost no prior experience in making games (Action 52 was all they had ever done to that point, and a lot of the stuff on there was probably old graphics demos or somesuch). - Manos was a way-outside-Hollywood project; Cheetahmen II was an unlicensed game. - Manos was made on a $20,000 budget; I don't know the figures, but Cheetahmen II couldn't have cost very much at all to make. - Hal Warren (the fertilizer salesman, for those not familiar) promised that Manos would be a Hollywood-quality horror film; the people behind Cheetahmen II promised that the Cheetahmen would be one of the hottest properties in America by the time Christmas came around. - Manos features a lot of butt-ugly scenery; Cheetahmen II features a lot of butt-ugly scenery. - Manos features an astoundingly wide variety of technical flaws, most notably the fact that the film's one and only camera couldn't record sound (all of the dialogue was dubbed, by three people IIRC); Cheetahmen II features an extensive list of technical flaws, most notably the fact that the game locks up after level 4 and prevents you from playing the last two levels. I'm sure there's more, but you get the idea. -Josh

... ... ... Oh. My. God. Folks, I thought Wayne's World was about as bad as it can get. Oh, how wrong I was...this, without question, is the "Manos" of video games. I *so* want to see this run. =D -Josh

Man, this was awesome, especially for a first submission! One of my favorite puzzle games, a very well-done 2-player run of it...you, sir, get an easy YES vote from me. -Josh

This is beautiful. How do you manage to make such a great movie in such a short time? You are too hard on yourself, this movie is one of the best I have seen. =) -Josh

I love this, great job! Definitely the hardest game in the series, even with jump & slash, and you make it look like nothing. Fun seeing the last boss die in no time at all. =) However, there are a couple issues I am wondering about... 1. When walljumping you go over the wall facing backwards at least once. This isn't good for speed as you move backwards slowly; it is always better to face forward for your last jump. Is this just unavoidable in NG1? 2. Now that FCEU has been patched to enable left+right, couldn't this movie be easily beaten? Still, I greatly enjoyed watching this! -Josh

feitclub: Depends on where you were at and what game you're talking about. Gief was #3 in WW, not that good in CE, very good in HF, not good in Super unless you used that stupid magic throw glitch, and arguably the worst character in ST. And note that the movie is far from being as fast as possible. It's an aesthetic run, as he uses a wide variety of tick throws, combos, and strange properties of the game. It's much better to watch this way IMO. -Josh

b: This is actually what I ended up doing, except that you don't fall through the floor...something a little more interesting happens, which I show off. And just to let everyone know, I'll put up my movie of the first two acts soon. It serves as a nice preview, as I saved a total of 206 frames from my previous movie up to this point. I'll also put up Phil's left+right-enabled FCEU, which is needed to play it I believe. -Josh

Which level are you referring to? And just to let you know, each jump can only be one of two heights (high and low). So I'm not so sure I'd have much control there. -Josh

Ah, I didn't know you could only take 4 hits. Makes more sense now, thanks. But what I meant was, if you need to go down somewhere, it's usually better to jump down rather than fall. Time it so that you drop off during your descent from the jump, then go back the other way or whatever else you need to do. This is how it works in most games, and it seems like this one isn't any different. Maybe I'm wrong, though. *shrug* -Josh

Hey, this was pretty cool. A couple questions, though: - Why don't you jump down ledges when you need to go down? - There are a lot of awkward-seeming pauses here. Are they truly necessary? Thanks, Josh.

Trust me, as someone who has played this game a great deal, this run IS humanly impossible. Mainly through two things: 1. Double and triple jumping. In order to perform these, you must hold the A button for EXACTLY 2 frames IIRC. *Extremely* difficult in real time...this also affects magic usage a great deal, since some enemies require multiple jumps to be hit. 2. Luck manipulation. Try this game and you'll notice that the minibosses and bosses are difficult and very intelligent for an NES game. This is the most annoying part of making this movie, as it took me three versions to get the best enemy behavior. This (like Castle of Dragon and Wai Wai World) is a hard game made to look easy in movie form. The ceiling glitch is actually very easy to perform on a console, though you need to keep doing triple jumps to get the most speed from it. -Josh

So, no more comments on this? I honestly think it's a much better movie than Castle of Dragon, as it packs a lot of action and variety into such a short amount of time. -Josh

I will definitely do it IF any of the walls allow it. I can tell you right now that it doesn't work with any of the Act 7 bosses, nor with Act 3 (no walls) or 4 (jumping over the wall will just make you land on top of the little waterfall). I'll try it on all the others, though. And thank you, this one should take a lot less time since I know the game now. There's almost no randomness involved, just lots of frame-precise movements. -Josh

Phil, in the words of Sean Connery, you're the man now, dog! Yes, thanks to his kindness, I have begun the glitch run. Just completed Act 1 and saved over a second thanks to it...I won't post any updates of this one, don't wanna spoil y'all before it's submitted. ;) -Josh

Left+right and up+down are possible on a console...it may require certain types of controllers, but it's doable. I recall someone (FODA?) saying on here that he uses it to make stage 11 of Battletoads easier. That's the whole reason these glitches are OK for timeattacks, IIRC... -Josh

I was wondering how this works. Personally, I like how it was in stx-Vile's movie as the 3-2 music is my favorite in the whole game. Never knew it was possible to get the Act 1 music as well...are there any other songs that can play there? For what it's worth, I did all of Act 7 twice in this run and got the 2-2 music both times. Dunno how one would manipulate this, but I sure would love to... And glad you liked the video! -Josh

This run won't be submitted due to a variety of minor mistakes and (mainly) the fact that it will be easily obsoleted by a glitch run. I'll start on one whenever FCEU gets patched to allow it. For now, though, I should probably get back to Startropics. Still got somewhere between 20-30 minutes to go in that game... -Josh

Check my filespace for a little Thanksgiving present. =) Yes, it is finally done, with a time of 9:50 (44 seconds faster than the current movie). My strategy for Act 7 ended up just barely working, as I constantly take damage to conserve ninja points; this left me with exactly 1 HP remaining but all 100 ninja points available for Jaquio's many forms. The first of said forms was far and away the most troublesome, and I'm still wondering if there isn't a better strategy I'm missing. I tried using rapid walljump-slashing, but that isn't effective for a variety of reasons...the fastest tactics I could find left me with one extra fire wheel to use on the last boss, which is nice. Seems like he could be done faster, though...it's just that the ninja doubles can't always be where you need them to. *shrug* I'd love to hear anyone else's ideas for this battle. The following battles are all extremely simple. I would've liked to use that last fire wheel on the head at the start of the fight, but he's immune to it. Thus I have to use it on the heart. Ah well. Hope you all enjoy the video! =) -Josh

Well, I was proven wrong about fighting-game runs not working. Terimakasih, your SF2 Turbo movie was fantastic and I think you should submit it here. Do you play Street Fighter in tournaments at all? You have a very good knowledge of how to use all of Zangief's moves, which is why I am asking; I use Zangief in SF2 tournaments myself, and I never knew about some of the things you showed. Great job! -Josh

Thanks, nice to see people enjoy this. =) Which boss are you talking about? The Kelbeross (Act 6 boss) throw raspberries, and they did so in NG1 as well. When I post the full v1, if you look closely, you can see them shoot one of these raspberries in the fight. And quite frankly, I haven't put too much effort into playing around after bosses. I'll definitely look to incorporate that trick in the real movie if it's possible. -Josh

b, don't worry about it, it's cool. As you can all see, it's not done...had much unexpected gaming and fun with some friends today. I won't make any more guarantees, but it will be done very soon hopefully. Still hating Act 7, Josh.
