Beautiful, simply beautiful. Clearly a worthy movie! -Josh

Hm, is there any way to randomize the needed number of shells from just one underwater encounter? If that isn't the case I'll definitely vote yes for this... -Josh

Hehe, yes indeedy. The story of this game is actually pretty neat, too bad you won't get to see any of it in the video. =/ Just finished level 9, 3-second improvement w00t w00t! Under 13:00 just *might* be within my grasp yet... -Josh

After much time and effort, level 8 is completed with yet another 2-second improvement. Now for the three final and most annoying levels of this run... -Josh

1) You do a little shake and bake move on level 2. Intentional? It seems to take a second. 2) You get bounced backwards once on level 4. Can this be prevented?
1. This is to make the enemy move toward me so I can jumpkick him and avoid the bonus stage that's right ahead. 2. Nope, no matter what you do you are going to either get hit or knocked back (just waiting wastes too much time). I chose to get knocked back since it doesn't cause damage and thus looks more professional. And that isn't ridiculous nitpicking on your part...I wholeheartedly welcome that level of scrutiny as it encourages perfection. In agreeance that level 3 is utterly ridiculous, Josh.

Wait a second...the given frame count is wrong as well. It comes out to 1:55, but when I play it and calculate the real time it is indeed 1:41. So this is rather annoying because you need a makeshift stopwatch to figure out the actual time of the movie. -Josh

Why couldn't 2 be completed quickly, with the leveling system being as broken as it is? -Josh

Phil: I know that, but what worries me is that this site seems to automatically use the time given by the emulator. If I'm wrong and it does calculate frames, then it's no big deal. -Josh

OK, it seems this emu has some issues with giving the wrong times. I first noticed this with Sword Master, and now it's popping up again... Just for the hell of it, I timeattacked the first level of Monster Party today. Comparing it to Evilheart's movie from speedruns.org, it appeared that I was about 9 seconds slower, as the emu gave a time of 1:55. This didn't seem right, given that it looked like I played much better than he did, so I started both movies at almost the exact same time and compared. Adjusting for the uneven starting points of the movies, it turned out that my real time for level 1 was 1:41, 5 seconds faster than Evilheart. So the emu overshot it by 14 seconds. I haven't run into this with any games besides those two yet, thankfully. Still, this is rather annoying... -Josh

Basically, what I remember from the Speedruns Little Samson video is: ABUSE THE MOUSE. This is key. Not only is he the fastest runner and highest jumper of anyone (he can also climb walls and ceilings like Samson, btw), but he may be the best character vs. bosses. You have to get his little bomb-things to explode, and not have the enemy make direct contact with them. -Josh

Thanks for the comments. =) Just completed level 7, another 2 seconds saved. Yep, doesn't look like it's going under 13 minutes now...ah well. -Josh

Dark Mana: When you are overlapping an enemy, and you try to punch or kick them, you are knocked backwards. This causes no damage. For an example of when I do take damage, look at the beginning of level 3 when I run under a bird and am hit by it. -Josh

Level 6 done. Total time is 9 seconds faster than v1 now. There wasn't nearly as much of an improvement in level 5 as I thought, which leads me to believe that I put down too low of a time for stage 4 and too high of a time for stage 5. Well, right about halfway through the game and it's not looking likely that I can get under 13 minutes. We'll see, though... -Josh

Nah, I'll have to do it almost from scratch. Like I said before, it's better to only use 2 crane kicks in the karate tournament and save the other two for the level 2 and 4 bosses. -Josh

Hey all, I just whipped up a quick movie of this game, done in 3:35. You can get it from the URL in my sig. Under 3:30 is most likely possible, but not much more than that...one improvement that comes to mind is to only use 2 crane kicks in the karate tournament, and use those other two (along with the two I pick up) on the level 2 and 4 bosses. EDIT: Jumping moves you forward the same speed as walking if you're on level ground. If the ground ahead is far below you, it is faster to walk. If the ground ahead is a bit above you, it is faster to jump. This is all due to the fact that you move extremely slowly during the descent from your jump. I'm sure I didn't always make the best decisions here, so this is something else than can be improved upon. EDIT 2: That one bonus stage is in fact unavoidable, and it is in fact faster to break one block than none (due to a lengthy animation that occurs if you don't break anything). -Josh

Again, some of my friends swear they found a video on Suprnova that showed Strider warping directly from the second stage to the last one. We should put our efforts into finding out how to do this... -Josh

I enjoy videos that take damage to save time because it requires some effort to think of when it's worth doing. It also shows extreme confidence on the part of the player; he is not fearing any unintentional damage. But that's just my .02. -Josh

Fighting game timeattacks are a pretty lame idea IMO. The best way to do it would be to show off various difficult combos and glitches, but there are already a huge number of combo and glitch compilation videos around the net. Doing a single match would be alright, I guess, but a full-game run would get highly repetitive. -Josh

Yeah, Blanka does about as well as anyone against Bison. Still gets crushed though...there are still lockdowns against him, they're just a little different. If he's allowed, WW Gief may actually be the closest thing to a Bison counter-character. One knockdown = win, since the bad guy didn't get a reversal until ST, and IIRC the lariat beats both psycho crusher and scissor kick. Even if he's not allowed, HF Gief still does very well here (relatively speaking, of course). Personally I'm happy they screwed Old Sagat. If they had done the same to Bison this would be best SF ever...as it is ST remains the "old-school" tourney game. =/ -Josh

In Wai Wai World you can affect randomness by holding Up at various points, jumping at various points (looks goofy so I tried to avoid it as much as possible), or switching characters at various points (again, tried to avoid this). This is a major reason why the game looks easy when you watch the video...enemy behavior is quite random, and in a real game where you can't control them it's downright nasty. In Vice you mainly affect randomness by switching weapons...the jumping thing can work also. In Castle of Dragon and Sword Master virtually everything you do affects randomness. These games require much trial and error, and are quite annoying to timeattack. Try some of these tricks in other games, they may likely work. -Josh
