The movie's done, check the link in my sig to get it (and the emulator needed to play it). Note that the actual time is around 5:55, not 11 minutes like the emulator says. *shrug* -Josh

Hey all, just wanted to let you know that all of my timeattacks are available at my Filespace page; the patched FCE Ultra is also there if any of you don't have it. Here are some comments on each: Castle of Dragon: Enemy behavior requires a lot of luck manipulation. The flame sword is weird; generally you make it last longer by continually firing it, but sometimes you have to stay still while firing it and sometimes you can jump. The mace randomly damages you when you swing it; I avoid this except for a couple areas where it is necessary, as it slows the game down a bit. And yes, the sword is the only thing that damages the last boss. =/ Sword Master: Jumping moves you forward more quickly than walking. If enemies are knocked into the corner, they can't be damaged until they come out. Magic uses up your experience points, and killing stuff builds experience. Oh, and the actual time for this is around 5:55 or 5:56. The emulator screwed up the displayed time for some reason. Dash Galaxy: Not much to say here, the low rerecord count pretty much speaks for itself. Not a difficult game, but an interesting run for those who have played it and know how gargantuan (over 100 levels) and confusing it can be. Wai Wai World: In addition to what I've already talked about in the thread for that game, Moai seems to have a less powerful version of the Castlevania critical hit glitch (you'll see me use it on the green dragons in his level). This will be useless in version 2 (thanks to a hidden exit in that level), though. So, everyone, if you could, please watch these movies and give feedback! =) -Josh

Yep, that's my best guess. Konami Wai Wai World might have something like this as well, actually...I noticed a slight increase in the damage of Moai's headbutt when he was damaged and overlapping an enemy. Not particularly useful, as you shouldn't need Moai for anything other than soaking up damage in the last level, but interesting nonetheless. -Josh

Done, finally! Total time is 45:02, with over 7600 rerecords. Now to find my friend and see if he can host my movies... -Josh

Yep, I tried every level and those three were all I could find. Maybe we're missing something though... Going to finish version 1 right now, Josh.

Nope, I'm going to finish this version. Just got done with the shooter level finally, time is 41:02. And I'm going to hold off on v2 until I am absolutely SURE that I know of all the hidden exits. They save a ton of time and energy (and sanity on my part =P), so obviously it's important to use all of them. -Josh

Ghosts 'n Goblins has a similar glitch. Basically just hit the boss at the exact same time that you are hit. Greatly increases damage. -Josh

... zim, you rock. That Castlevania exit led me to experiment with the other levels, and it turns out that there are also hidden exits in the Goonies and Moai stages. The former is in the lower-left corner of the room right before Mikey. As for the latter...after getting Moai, go back to the long hallway with the mechanical Moai and head right. Break the first set of blocks, and the teleporter will be on the ground just ahead. Again, much thanks! -Josh

Did you know there was a secret exit teleporter in the Castlevania where Dracula lies? I found it by accident when I jumped up the platforms to defeat Dracula. It is located near the invisible stairs on a platform far right. You shouldn't miss it. I can't wait to see this run, since this game was difficult,
!!! Well then, THAT'S certainly a several-minute improvement for version 2. Thanks a lot! Hm, do you think there might be any others? The huge amount of backtracking is what makes this game so long and difficult... -Josh

Hey guys, just wanted to get the ball rolling a little bit here with some random points. - Super/Ultra Jump abuse will probably own this game. Is there any kind of limit on it, or can you keep going infinitely? - Geno Whirl = free win vs. Exor. - I imagine much of the money will have to come from treasure boxes, as you wouldn't be fighting a whole lot. - Take a look at the low-level FAQ at Gamefaqs, some of the stuff in there seems useful for a timeattack. I'm no expert on this game, just interested in seeing this one. -Josh

Oh lord...I'm going to get the "Essentials" collection with Manos on it, but I am very afraid. My brother and I just saw Monster A-Go-Go last night, and neither of us wants to consider the idea that there might be a movie out there worse than that one... And thanks for the info Booda, never knew quite a bit of that! -Josh

Hey all, figured there have to be some others out there who still love this show to death. Well, here's a place where you can discuss anything you want about it! To start...I only really got into the show during the Sci-Fi Channel era, and have very faint memories of Joel, Dr. Forrester, and TV's Frank. If anyone here could recommend me some Comedy Central eps to check out, that would be much appreciated! Uses "Punch Rockgroin" as an alternate nick, Josh.

Thanks a lot for the info, never heard of that game! Interesting... Anyway, I'm halfway through the shooter stage now. This is taking longer than I thought, mainly because I've never done an "aesthetic form" before. One thing I'm doing for now: In the second half of this level, you can't even see some of the walls and flying objects because the emulation is so crappy. Hence, I will circle around some of these invisible objects to show that they do exist. Would you like it if I kept this in version 2, or would you prefer something different? EDIT: Oh yes, the 100% accuracy idea has been scrapped since I get Options. It's more like "Kill everything with as close to 100% accuracy as possible". -Josh

OMG...finally got Moai over with. Total time is 36:21, with over 6300 rerecords. And I now realize I made another mistake. I should've grabbed Fuuma's special weapon. It's a long-ranged, 3-way shuriken that can break the blocks in Moai's world; with the sword, I have to stop a lot in order to cut my way through all of the blocks, but with the shurikens I could have gone through and kept moving forward. Ah well. Anyway, the shooter stage is next. I'll play this one with a "shoot everything with 100% accuracy" style. Reason being, I have to shoot a lot of stuff to collect powerups (to beat the bosses as quickly as possible) anyway. Don't worry, though, I won't skimp on speedups! =) -Josh

Truncated: Nope, tool-assisted runs actually began with Doom. Some people from the speedrunning community hacked into the games to add slow-motion and other things. This was done solely because they were interested in seeing what the best possible times were; entertainment was not ever considered (although these movies do tend to be rather entertaining). -Josh

After rescuing all six characters, you go into an overhead shooter stage. You can pick either Vic Viper or Twinbee, both of whom have some of their trademark weapons (Vic's missiles and laser, Twinbee's boxing gloves and ripple laser). There are also speed-ups, options, and shields which both of them can use. The first part of the level is in the Twinbee style, with clouds which you can shoot to reveal bells (which, in turn, you can shoot to reveal powerups), while the second part is Gradius-esque. Then there are a couple minibosses followed by the main boss of the level. After this is the final level. It's some sort of alien planet, with its own fair share of tough enemies. Completely linear, rather short, and easier than the Moai stage IIRC. The final boss theme will be verrrrrrrry familiar to all of you, I'm sure. ;) -Josh

Ah, I see. Trust me, if those two levels are scaring you off, you don't want to try the rest of the game. Moai is on a level of its own when it comes to frustration, and Fuuma's stage is up there as well. -Josh

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'll warn you all now, though, this is only a preliminary version. I wouldn't submit it even if this site did take FCE Ultra, for three reasons: 1. I make a couple mistakes speed-wise in the Goonies level, which I didn't catch until much later on. They cost me no more than 2-3 seconds, but are rather obvious. 2. There is some room for improvement stylistically. I take some unnecessary damage, switch characters at seemingly random times, etc. 3. I use the translated ROM; next time I'll use the original to make it feel a little more authentic. If anyone still wants to see this when it's done, flaws and all, one of my friends should be willing to host it (along with my Castle of Dragon and Sword Master timeattacks). BombAHead: Ah yes, the lovely plant things. I think you'll like how I deal with them in the movie. =) Do you remember the Green Dragon Hall of Death, by any chance? That's what scares me so much about the Evil Easter Island. -Josh

Well, Goemon turned out to be just about as easy as I thought it was, and I came out with everyone's life full. Time is now 29:15, with over 4900 rerecords. Now I shudder in fear at the thought of the Evil Easter Island... BTW, does anyone here know if that level is based on a game or just made up for this one? Thanks, Josh.

Also, if you just press B instead of A+B, you'll get an uppercut instead of the knee. It's a little less powerful, but can come in handy when the knee will send you into a pit or something. -Josh

King Kong and Getsufuu-Maden are done. Total time is now 23:38, with over 4300 rerecords. Kong's stage wasn't so bad compared to Goonies, but Fuuma's sure as hell was. Also, I had to use the healing room after Kong; you have to take a ton of damage to maintain your speed in his stage, and you hardly have any opportunities to kill enemies (and grab life hearts) without wasting time. Additionally, everyone ended up having to take lots of damage in Fuuma's stage too, so that healing room turned out to be worth it. BTW, Kong isn't any faster than the other characters. However, I still use him a lot because of his high jump and attack power. Now it's on to Goemon. This stage is just as about as easy as Castlevania, so I'm hoping I can refill everyone's life here. Reason being, Moai's world is going to be pure, unadulterated hell. I can just feel it. -Josh
