Count me in for Sonic 3, just barely over Flashback and Streets of Rage 2. -Josh

I think Phil has admitted that CV4 is improvable by around 10 seconds or so. Still, I'd agree with that pick. Dragon Warrior, Umihara, and Contra 3 I all agree with as well. Jackal not so much...a fairly obscure game, not really exciting for the typical viewer. One of the Punch-Out movies deserves it...either the original or Super, I don't mind. Flashback is a definite yes. Really long game cut in half by cool glitches...yum. Arkanoid = hell yes. Prince of Persia, Metal Storm, Tetris Attack...I don't know about those. And I'm surprised you picked Wai Wai World...I think it's a bit boring in the beginning, plus it's VERY slightly improvable (like, 5 seconds or so). Thanks, but even I'd say no. Personally, I think one of the Ninja Gaiden games should be added. All of them are fast-paced and well-known games; additionally, all of those movies are among the most optimized on the site because there's very little luck manipulation involved. I'd be tempted to say NG2, because it has cool glitches and impressive control of the shadows, but I'm biased there. =P I honestly don't know about Megaman X2...the original is the most well-known and also a better movie IMO; the need for 100% items and shoryuken abuse just kills X2 in my mind. One more Genesis one that I'd nominate: Streets of Rage 2. I know it's only one-player, but that actually looks more impressive in the context; Mania difficulty gives you the same number of enemies in 1 and 2-player modes, and just beating it AT ALL in one-player is considered a great accomplishment. The movie also shows off all kinds of tricks that most people wouldn't think of, and the game itself is known as an all-time classic among both the beat-em-up genre and Genesis games in general. -Josh

This is TSA's justification for doing a segmented run, actually: Nintendo pumped out a half-assed game, so he made a half-assed run. That's not my opinion, but roughly his own words. No way I'm bringing myself to watch this one...everyone echoed my sentiments on the game quality. -Josh

Awesomeness. I'm up for any games in SF2, Turbo or Super. Also TMNT Tournament Fighters, if anyone actually plays that game or wants to learn it. EDIT: Sleepz, you're thinking of Kaillera. Fun, but definitely worse than zbattle as far as lag goes. Actually, sad as this is, zbattle is even better than Xbox Live. And just for 2d fighters...for some reason they can get freaking Mortal Kombat Deception to play on there with almost no lag, but not and 2d fighters. -Josh

Tecmo World Wrestling. Probably the best NES wrestling game, though I prefer Pro Wrestling just because it has the AMAZON DANCE~!

You gotta do the japanese version, it'll be a movie that basically says "Here's how fucked up Japan is!" because that's the most blatantly racist video game ever. -Josh

Yeah, that's all I ever got out of it too. This really is a crappy port of the arcade game, so you're right about that. Capcom made a quite blatant ripoff of this game called Code Name: Viper, that's a better game than this port and would be a pretty good run as well... Except they replaced the space KKK and Nintendo nookie with a generic 80s drug war plot. That was pretty lame. -Josh

Yep, don't worry, this will be published no doubt. A lot of the stuff here won't help you though...besides the levitation glitch and wobbling, he also uses a lot of save/quits. But there are a couple things in here which seem to be practical on a console. The trick to instantly jump off ledges, improved use of the hookshot as a speed booster, etc. Awesome movie, easy yes vote from me. -Josh

No, although the assumption is somewhat in error these days. The Southern crowd always went for the NWA (in the old days) and then WCW (in the 90s); the WWF/E's core audience has always been in the Northeast. Since the WWE is the only one of these that's still around, the redneck crowd has gone away from wrestling a bit. -Josh

I dedicated an entire thread on here to Nightwish, so there ya go. Nine Inch Nails is my other main musical obssession, though I am not liking the new song much. As for others...basically other power metal and industrial groups. Trans Siberian Orchestra is one of my favorites as well...my first exposure to orchestral rock, these guys remake Christmas and Beethoven songs in this style and really keep the "feel" of the originals. Oh, and the Konami Kukeiha Club, if that counts. ^_^ -Josh

OMGWTFBBQ The Ultimate Warrior (whose legal name is in fact "Warrior", BTW) gave a speech at the University of Connecticut, and it is some of the funniest shit I've seen in awhile. I knew for a long time that he was a bit nuts, but this convinced me that he's not even on the same planet as the rest of us anymore. The video is out there, I got it from a certain site which I'm not allowed to mention here. Maybe Googling it will give you some luck. *shrug* Do try to find it, though...around 34 minutes is where it starts getting especially fun. The cameraman gets some great comments in himself, too. -Josh

Well, I would be okay with this tactic for MOST games. With some you just can't afford to allow a soft reset...Sword Master falls into this category, as the game saves your experience level after a soft reset; my second unpublished version of that run was actually cheated because of this and I didn't know it. So yeah, on a game-by-game basis. -Josh

Hmm, isn't the GtBehemoth a boss somewhere else in the WoR? I'm figuring you have to kill him in order to run away from a battle, which is why that would make sense.

Umm...let's see, there are literally NO COMBOS, everything is slow and clunky, projectiles generally suck (actually, lots of special moves for that matter), there's not much real strategy, etc. Only Rise of the Robots may have worse gameplay than this one, and this is coming from someone who's wasted years of his life on this genre. =P Movie was well-done, and I'm voting yes just for laughs. -Josh

Howdy all, just was wondering if anyone out there is up for some games. As far as zbattle is concerned, SF2 Turbo and TMNT Tournament Fighters are my favorites, and I'll also play the other SF's. I recall Saturn mentioning that he'd like to play Super online...well, I'm ready now. =) And on Kaillera, here are some of the games I like: -SF2 Hyper Fighting (still the best in the series IMO) -Super Turbo (I think this is actually worse than HF, but still great) -King of Fighters '98 (as far as SNK games go, to borrow the words of a certain wrestler, this is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be) -Last Blade 2 (my second-favorite SNK fighter, highly underrated) -Samurai Shodown II (easily the best in the series) -Fatal Fury Special (my favorite from this series...lots of people cream over Real Bout Special and 2 but I don't get it) -Breakers Revenge (ultra-obscure but surprisingly fun fighter) -Magical Drop 3 (my all-time favorite puzzle game, bar none) -Twinkle Star Sprites (truly a one-of-a-kind game that still to this day has an active tournament scene in Japan) -WWF Wrestlefest (still one of my sentimental favorite games, wrestling or otherwise) I'm sure I'm leaving lots of stuff out, but this'll give you an idea. Anyone who's up for a game, just AIM me. I go by Wishmaster on both Kaillera and zbattle. -Josh

Indeed. As I said before, I would kill to see Wolfenstein and Spear of Destiny runs, as I found them to be much much harder than the Doom series. Mainly due to those damn mutants...Spear was especially bad about this, always sticking them in mazes where you have no way of knowing where the hell they are. -Josh

Well dang there Jethro, that's some good news! Just one thing I'm wondering, and I apologize if the answer is somewhere I was too lazy to look: Can movies be made during netplay? I'm interested in this mainly for purposes completely unrelated to TASes, but it could also be a fun way to make multiplayer runs. Thanks, Josh.

Where's AxeMan? I thought that little HHH fanboy would be here by now...=P freaksh0w: You roxor, and yes it was called the Royal Rumble even then. I'm surprised someone here actually got that, even some experienced fans are prone to say Big John Studd... feitclub: Ah yes, AKI's whole series of N64 wrestling games was awesome indeed. No Mercy may still be my favorite wrestling game of all time... And I missed out on ECW at the time, though now I've watched some of their stuff. Really goes to show how much of the so-called "WWF Attitude" was blatantly stolen from these guys... itstoearly: Wow, that's weird. At least where I live, nobody in their right mind thinks it's real (hell, the WWE themselves produced a reality show that blatantly exposed the business). And there are some exceptions to the "guys pulling their punches, etc." rule. Vader in his WCW run was the epitome of this, as he became infamous for just hitting you really hard every time. This is what's called "working stiff". Jukeboksi: Awesome, someone who destroys me in wrestling geekitude. I'm wondering whether you should be docked points for marking out for The Worst Wrestler In The History Of Man (Gigante), but probably not...hell, when I was a kid I thought Papa Shango's voodoo magic was real. Plus even then you were smart enough to realize Liger was THE MAN. =) And you actually stuck with WCW to the end? It takes guts to put up with Vince Russo's hack writing...I sure as hell couldn't do it. Kudos! I agree about the current state of American wrestling. The problem is that workrate just doesn't draw here, so it makes perfect business sense to take title belts off of guys like Benoit and Eddie and try to create the next Steve Austin (or even Brock Lesnar). Although there is just NO excuse for the Bradshaw Title Reign From Hell, as he's giving Diesel good competition for the title of "Lowest Drawing Champion Ever". Are there any good places to download stuff besides [expurgated]? I'm rather new to all this, so any help would be appreciated. -Josh EDIT by feitclub: Sorry, we can't have links to sites like that in the forums.

Just out of boredom, I figured I'd start a thread here about one of my childhood obsessions. I was born just a bit too late to fully experience the WWF boom of the 80s; I discovered wrestling as Hulk Hogan and his ilk were being phased out and Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were being phased in. Of course this was due to the steroid scandals occurring at that time, but I didn't know this back then. A local video store carried lots of old WWF videos, so I often rented them to get a taste of those salad days of Hulkamania. I loved it all, with the match between Hogan and Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III (still possibly the most famous match in the history of the business) particularly sticking out for me. I also had a thing for the high-flying stars like Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, and Jimmy Snuka. I knew nothing about the inner workings of wrestling other than the fact that it was worked (industry lingo meaning "fixed"), and I was perfectly happy with that. I spent much of 1992 and '93 in this mode, also watching WCW once I discovered that. Sting was a favorite of mine from that company, along with 2 Cold Scorpio (the first time I saw his 450 splash, I nearly screamed like a little girl out of amazement), Vader (just an absolute monster, far more athletic than the WWF's big fat guys), and Cactus Jack (the degree of violence in his matches was like nothing I had ever seen at that time). Sometime in late '93, I fell out of the habit of watching it (probably after realizing that god damn did wrestling suck in '93), and remained a non-fan for quite a long time. Fast-forward to early 1998. I had been hearing a lot about the fact that the WWF had signed Mike Tyson to appear at Wrestlemania that year. Additionally, my brother had started watching again and had been telling me about this supposedly awesome character named Stone Cold Steve Austin. Now, I had watched wrestling VERY occasionally over the past couple years, so I knew who Austin was. But I didn't know that his style had drastically changed since I had last seen him, that his interviews and matches were about as far from Hulkamania as anything could be. So, on my brother's word, I had started watching again, and was impressed with what I saw. The entire WWF had undergone a major change, placing emphasis on violence and swearing and sex and general edginess. For the teenager that I was at the time, it was perfect. Also, I began to follow wrestling via the internet, something which I obviously didn't have during the earlier days. This opened my eyes to a whole new world, as I learned in detail how the matches were planned out and executed and how angles (storylines) were written. I became aware of all of the various "insider" lingo through the internet, as well as the history of the business and the real lives of the people involved. And so, I went from a "mark" (common fan) to a "smart mark" (still a fan, but a knowledgeable one). This may sound unusual, but you have to realize that the wrestling business itself generally covered up its history and/or lied to our faces about just about anything (be it attendance figures, the pre-wrestling careers of certain wrestlers, or any number of other things). Not everything on the internet is reliable, obviously, but it was and still is almost the only place where one can find any true information. I can post more of my story later if anyone cares (though there isn't a whole lot left). If you want, feel free to post any thoughts you have on this strange little business we love so much...of course, wrestling games are a welcome part of this thread (Wrestlefest = pwnage, just so you all know) Before I go, here's a simple WWF trivia question: Who won the first Royal Rumble? Hint: He was one of the most popular wrestlers to never win a championship belt in his WWF career, although at one point he did hold the ever-meaningless title of "King of the WWF". Later everyone, Josh.
