So, a little while ago, I learned of a gamebreaker trick for this game. At least, that was what I thought it was. The desired result was to skip the long, long trek to get Gil's secret weapon. But... there's exactly one block that keeps it from happening. http://karlstrom.se/kenny/Ufouria(E).rar (url tags is unccoperative - so you have to copy pasta) (I did use savestates, but no slowdown when I recorded that. So it's definitely not optimized, I couldn't be arsed to fix every single mistake, and there's some fooling around. I only did it to show the glitch. PAL emulation was on.) So sadly it looks like all that can be done with it is skipping Bop-Louie's Secret Weapon, since you have to get one weapon regardless... only cutting one boss fight isn't really the gamebreaker I had hoped for...

I'll chip in with another YES vote. I played this on emu long time ago, got to that first cloudy stage... This was well-played and so, nice job.

I was playing around with this, to maybe find something that could help my console running of it (I'm supposedly working on a 100% run of it now btw)... never got very far with it, though. And when I say "something that could help", I mean "something that definitely could bring my time down to under 40 minutes without requiring absolute perfection everywhere". It royally sucks that Shades can't be skipped in a TAS, but how about a 100% TAS? 'course, that too would benefit lots from skipping Shades at first since you could just sweep the entire mines and ice dungeon in one go after getting Gil... still, I'd love to see this TAS'd, even if you have to detour to get Shades.

Oh man. This was one of the first games I played around with when I dl'd the rerecording FCEU all that time ago. Never really got any further than stage 1, though. Definitely a yes vote.

(I'm not sure why I'm posting this since it won't add anything to the debate, but...)
I don't see why the speedruns couldn't contain a message saying something along the lines of: "This is an unassisted recording, no slowdowns or freeze save rerecordings were used in the making of this movie. See www.speeddemosarchive.com* for more information on this matter."
"This is a non-assisted speedrun. It was played and recorded in real time on a console/computer. See http://speeddemosarchive.com/faq.html for more details." "This is a tool-assisted speedrun. It was played and recorded using slowdown, savestates and rerecording on an emulator. See http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html for more details." I also agree fully with what Saber said, nate has not done his homework about people's opinions on this.

I totally agree too. I haven't followed this discussion much lately, but this thread is certainly enough. Why should TAS-ers change everything for _one_ community? I fail to understand that logic.
It's because you're looking at it from the wrong perspective (and I understand why that is). The proposed change is not meant for "one community". Quite the opposite - it is meant for all the people who aren't in the speedunning or TAS community, to make the people who know nothing about TAS realize how the video they watch was made. Not in real time and using a "rewind" function. Because someone that is not in any of the communities, and therefore has a knowledge about such terms, will not understand that "Tool-Assisted Speedrun" means "This was not played in real time and savestates/rerecording were used in the making of it". I do not complain about the term, I think it's fine (though I liked "Optimal gameplay demo"). I never really liked nate's proposed solution to it, because as it has been said "cheated" sounds so negative, but I understand how he thinks. I'm not really sure what to think about the suggested intro either - especially since it seemingly already happens that the intro you have now is stripped from the video when it's posted elsewhere. There will never be a solution that both parties are completely satisfied with in this matter, but I suggest that the information is given in the gameplay portion of the video and not before it. Something like a subtitle starting to roll on the bottom when the first stage (or equivalent, the point is that it should appear while there's actual gameplay and not as an intro so it can't be removed that easily) of the game starts, "This is a optimal gameplay demonstration (or something along those lines). It was played using slowdown, savestates and rerecording. See http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html for more details." I know that there already is a message that is usually being displayed after the "TAS intro", but it is (apparently) not enough. The number of rerecords and the information that it is a "tool-assisted recording" will not mean much to the average internet Joe, and I am quite convinced that most of them will not visit the Why and How page and learn about it. That is why I think including the basic meaning, a short explanation of it to be a better idea. Well, those are my two cents on the matter. I'd argue for that something along the same lines is done for console runs if your point is why only you should have to do this...

Just watched this, very nice :) Just wondering, at around 19:42 where you jump over the devil, couldn't you manipulate him do do that move where he teleports to the other side of you so you don't have to jump?

I love how the credits take up more time of the published .avi than the actual playing. :) Umihara Kawase & UK Shun are two of my favourite games ever, so awesome.

Monster World IV is great. My favourite in the Monster World series, definitely. And the translation is really good too, I need to beat that game some day... As for this game, I never played it very much, and I'm sure this movie shows a great playthrough of it, but I won't watch it.

So I actually watched this movie. I tried this game on emulator myself once, but I sucked totally - I could only beat one of the three "boss" battles you can get to in the beginning. So I wanted to see what the game was like... I was surprised that you lost Liu Bei so early, I thought he was the main character that was going to be with you the entire game. Anyway, I liked this. Voting yes.

Yes indeed. http://pspupdates.qj.net/Ur-Quan-Masters-0-5-0-PSP-Port/pg/49/aid/11353 Star Control 2 - The Ur-Quan Masters, one of the best games of all time, has been converted to PlayStation Portable by someone going under the nick of Sharkus. I find this completely awesome, and I will definitely play it when I get a PSP.

I think the only console release of it was for the Genesis CD addon.

Alright, let me get this straight: a dude with all pink clothes and pink hair, who apparently uses steroids (and walks around in ONLY tight pink underpants after doing so), is the most decorated marine? Also, flying turtles with jet flames from their rear? O__o This was just to friggin' weird. I won't even vote on this one.

Eh... well, it IS well-played, however, it's not entertaining in any way, plus there is one stage which isn't even played. You don't miss anything at all if watching this in 800% emulation speed. Plus, the game is boring and the controls are dumb. Voting no on this.

Aah, truly one of the best games ever made. Anyway, a dude from SDA froums going under the name of Striker made a speedrun, with a final time of 1:21:49. Though sadly, it's no longer hosted at his webspace from where I got it, so unless he uploaded it somewhere else, it's unavailable. I don't have the run anymore, but I only had the HQ version anyway, which was 539 MB, too large for me to host myself. 'tis a shame, it was a great run. I could ask if my brother still has it on his computer, but... 539 MB... And the official name of the captain is Zelnick and the ship the Vindicator. But who ever played this game without renaming them, seriously? :P
