But is this a final judgment or just some kind of preliminary one? Will they accept further submissions?
It's final, barring things like unforseen late drop-outs that mean they have to fill the time with something else. Though in that case, they will likely first go for the bonus runs to add there. There's been a lot made about that Super Metroid didn't get accepted, but actually looking at the submissions, it's pretty clear to me that there's no Super Metroid because there simply weren't any solid Super Metroid submissions. It's so far the only game that's been in literally every GDQ event, but that doesn't give it a free pass, and neither does the save/kill donations. Notably, none of the top any% runners of the game actually submitted it.

I was asked to post in the thread: (22:17:47) (KennyMan666) It's a separate category (22:17:59) (KennyMan666) Is what I think about it (22:18:52) (KennyMan666) There's not really any reason whatsoever to not have TASes published of both the NTSC and PAL versions, given that they have different glitches

So Discord, Celestia and a hint of Pinkie owned what was an otherwise mediocre first episode of the season, but episode 2 was just predictable and bad and I wasn't a fan of what they did with Trixie. Whelp.

Apparently that's not quite the case. Desite what it looks like, oddly enough, romhacking_net is not an official Twitter account for the site. It was registered in January this year, and until now, it's just posted about new hacks being released, definitely looking like it's real. But an actual confirmed staff member of the site is saying that it's fake. The site hasn't been shut down, it's just an outage. Whoever made the romhacking_net twitter account can't have planned for this, two months down the line, so it's really odd.

<Spikestuff> From My Little Pony, to Pi Day to ... this. He actually had the nick SpikeOldie when he said that on IRC, but he insisted I change it. It's historical negationism, I tell ya. So, just to have it come full circle (and because I coincidentally came across this while googling for a "my brain is full of fuck" image):

Let me quote from the SomethingAwful AGDQ thread:
Each year, TASBlock is becoming less of a speedrunning event and more of a weird art installation.
If it didn't evolve into that, I doubt we would see TASBlock every year. It would fall into the same category as the Tetris Block: fucking awesome if this is your first encounter with it but otherwise the impact is much less for people who have seen it before. This year the TAS guys definitely topped themselves rapidly ending a couple games (so still within the realm of games done quickly!), then quietly have them connect to an audio/video stream to provide that experience.
Emphasis mine, and I think that is very much what it comes down to. Consider this TAS block from the perspective of a casual viewer. The perspective of someone who's not a TASer. The perspective of someone who's not a speedrunner. The perspective of someone who's not even very good at computers (of which there are a lot). To the vast majority of viewers, this was basically magic (sufficiently advanced technology, and all that...). If the TAS block just kept being about showcasing high-level TASes - that would get old because there's not too much to do with that. It wouldn't be something that warranted being repeated at every marathon. The TAS blocks kind of have to do out-of-the-box stuff to keep being as impressive as they have been. They have their place in speedrunning marathons because they come from the same place, and a TAS block should probably always include some basic TAS to demonstrate what it's all about at the base level. But they can't just be that. And to be fair - TASing has always, to a certain extent, been about taking control of the hardware. Savestates, slowdown, all that, that's controlling what the game is being played in, in addition to controlling the game itself. This kind of stuff just takes it a few steps further.

And it's not like the main series has that something anymore either.

Okay so I watched the second half of S6 over the last two-ish weeks and in general it was just the same kind of meh I've considered the latest seasons to be. Dungeons and Discords was easily the best episode of the season and a legit good episode in general, and Discord was definitely back in style for the finale as well. Good return to form for him after What About Discord. I do wish to stop for a moment and point out Pony Point Of View, though. Is it only me or was the big reveal in that incredibly stupid? And as mediocre as the show in general in my opinion has become, if there's one thing I'll give FiM above the actually pretty consistently good cartoons I watch (by which I mostly mean AT and SU), it's that it actually knows how to stick to a fucking schedule. Like, for serious, AT aired its previous episode back in July, and still hasn't gotten the season finale (that has been confirmed and preview screenshots exist) out. And SU has just been catastrophically bad about that since forever ago. Guess I'll end up watching Legend of Everfree, too... Edit: Okay, so I watched Legend of Everfree and these movies are just getting dumber with each installment. I already said the climax of Friendship Games felt like self-parody, this one was even more so to the point where part of me wants to think some people on the production team are doing it on purpose. Pinkie was easily the highlight of the movie and pretty much the only saving grace of the EQ movies in general. Mostly because EQ Pinkie is somehow even more impossible than regular Pinkie.

Oh, so? I never managed to do the ice speed boost myself. ...aaaand this just happened Edit: OH HEY MANAGED TO DO IT. Yeah I see how this works now, I've been trying it wrong before. Now that I figured out the trick it's not even hard.

I want to say that medicine chests don't respawn if you have that medicine on hand, but any chests with medicines that you have already collected and used will come back. Literally everything about Ufouria on the SDA Knowledge Database was written by me so yeah. I think the only thing really missing is the crawljump, or whatever that should be named - while it's done with a crawl jump, the important part is more the little wall/ledge clip that lets you jump again. Also same, Ufouria and Mega Man 3 were the big NES games of my childhood. How it came to be Ufouria is a petty funny story, really, since the game I wanted to get was Tom & Jerry, but none of the toy stores in town had it in stock so that shopping trip ended with me getting Ufouria instead which was a good thing because it's one of my favourite games of all time.

Oh. Yeah, I only run deathless. With deaths would change the route, and I never did bother figuring out any route for that. Health management in this game is a bitch and a half and the stun after getting hit is annoying. I also always found 100% with death warps kind of weird since medicine chests respawn when you die. Deathless 100% is just getting all of the chests and friends, but when some chests come back... And why the death after the medicine in the gate room in your 100% route? Why not just take the door, climb up the wall in the ice passage and head to the tree that way? I guess more people discovered this game for speedrunning, but I was first, damnit. I've been intending for years to improve my SDA run because oh god that run sucks and was made before even the switch glitch was found...

Okay, I confused my things, hammer was part of my old any% route (which was pre-Shades skip) but not the new one, but I grab the hammer like I said before in 100%. So I'm pretty sure my routes are as follows: Any%: Freeon-Leeon - Return egg - Suction cup - Medicine (gate room) - Gil - Red key - Medicine (water maze entrance) - Gil's secret weapon - Shades - Blue key - Medicine (dark area) - Green key - Unyo. 100%: Freeon-Leeon - Bop-Louie's secret weapon - Crystal - Return egg - Suction cup - Power of Insight - Shades' secret weapon - Medicine (gate room) - Gil - Red key - Heart container (left of red key) - Medicine (bottom of Gil area) - Heart container (underneath starting area) - Red power ring - Shades - Freeon-Leeon's secret weapon - Heart container (ice dungeon) - Blue power ring - Compass - Water of Life - Blue key - Map - Medicine (water maze entrance) - Green power ring - Gil's secret weapon - Heart container (dark area) - Medicine (dark area) - Green key - Unyo. Final medicine in any% is mostly a safety medicine and can be skipped. Considered getting bombs right after Gil in 100%, but I've been pretty sure that's slower due to the heart container under the start being awkward to work into that route. I do guess an alternative there is to head back into the mines and take the waterway to that heart container after getting the blue key (picking up the either before or after), and then go up the waterfall and head to the green key (which would also move the medicine at the bottom of the Gil area to there). But that still sounds like more travel time to me. I should do some testing.

If you get the hammer without the suction cup, then getting back out of the little cave it's in is awkward if you're planning on going up (which is where you're heading if you don't have the suction cup) afterwards, which is a reason I believe it won't be faster. Plus, doing a switch glitch means going into the subscreen twice in addition to the chargeup time. And I do grab the hammer in any% too, now that I think about it.

Yeah, it's a known trick. I don't think it was found until after the latest TAS though. I don't actually remember the nick of the guy who found it but he was running on the Japanese version. I never did manage to get it consistently on console... And in 100% I can't imagine it's faster getting the hammer that way instead of just quickly grabbing it when coming down after getting the suction cup. Man, I really need to get back to running Ufouria. It was my first speedgame after all.

Okay so that's season 3 of SU done. Apart from Lapis who more or less remained the best thing of the season, it really started out quite tepid, with an in my opinion far too quick cleaning up of Malachite and an utterly unsatisfying conclusion to the cluster arc. Mr. Greg was the first actually good episode of the season and then it got going for real with Alone at Sea and almost all of the rest of the episodes were good stuff. The reveal towards the end (not that Pink Diamond existed because that had been super obvious for forever, but that Rose had actually shattered her) was actually a good reveal too. Aaaaand apparently season 4 is airing already. The schedule of this show makes no fucking sense. I figured I was going to catch up on Adventure Time first but looks like there's not actually been any more episodes since the latest one I saw. Edit: And then the first episode of season 4 is literally a Looney Tunes episode.

Four episodes in and I'm not really feeling this new season of SU yet, though completely unamused Lapis did me a funny and the end of E4 gives me some hope for the upcoming episodes, at least.

Okay, so I've now watched the new SU episodes. Was about time. I'll spoiler my thoughts just in case. They were kind of odd as season openers, and would have made a lot more sense as a continuation of season 2. As it was, none of the overarcing storylines in season 2 got much of a conclusion apart from Peridot's stuff, but even then, that was a part of the Cluster arc. And on that note... did anyone else think the conclusion we got to that now with Gem Drill was a bit of an anti-climax? With how it had been talked up as the greatest threat to the Earth there is, it ends with the mission to reach it getting a single episode and then it's all IT DOESN'T WANT TO DO THIS and it's just locked up. Because it's totally a good idea to leave that unstable thing where it is.
