Okay hi I'm back
Season 4 opener: Eh, Discord alone made it a decent enough palate cleanser, but I'm still damaged from the season 3 ender.
Episode 3: Now this was much more pointing towards a return to form.
And since I discovered Adventure Ponies 2 today I've been routing it. Sad that half of the characters are clones of the other half, and noone that plays like Fluttershy from the first game. What I did find was however a wallcrawl in the final stage that only the pegasi can do, which skips like the entire level, but it's hard to nail and you only have two shots.
Since I figured out a part of it, though, it means time to see if there's anything like it you can do in the first one!

Thus, I have to correct this by bringing up Legend of Galactic Heroes, the space opera to end all space operas. It's pretty long, with 110 episodes, 52 Gaiden episodes and 2 movies, but so well worth watching.

I'm assuming any song that would take actual effort will stay in English. The ones that don't, such as Pinkie's songs that all suck since Japanese Pinkie Pie is fucking horrible, will be made Japanese just because we're not suffering enough.
My attempt at making Art of the Dress work in Japanese is pretty much just two lines I'm not really satisfied with away from being complete but I've hit a bit of a block there.

I'm sure it's been discussed and tried already, but is it at all possible to pick up Shades' weapon without Shades? If the weapon switching trick works with any weapon, I'd think that would save loads of time since you wouldn't have to get Gil's.
It's pretty much easier to get by using Bop-Louie and climbing to get it after you have the suction cup rather than doing the jump with Shades, but even then, you can't start charging it without Shades.
And, yeah, skipping bombs is the one thing I've tried everything I could possibly think of to do. Apart from some wild zipping glitch, now that the light switch can be skipped and the Shades skip has been confirmed possible on console (even if unfeasible in a realtine run), skipping bombs feels like the only thing left in breaking this game. But I've not been able to find any way to place a bomb one tile lower after breaking a top layer and then going into the subscreen.

By the way, I believe klmz also mentioned the light-switch skip in the discussion thread for the previous movie.
I checked. He mentioned it in the vaguest possible sense: "IIRC, I beat the game without turning on the light. I didn't skip Shade, so it might be that I used him to cross the pit if the platforms weren't be there while the light was out." Not helpful at all, not giving any clues to how it might have been done, and worded in such a way that it was easy to dismiss because none of the speedrunner or TASers had figured out any way of pulling it off. It was eventually Blublu's swimming speed preservation thing that made me figure out the extended jump, but...

That wouldn't work on account of how bombs don't actually damage enemies. They only destroy blocks.

Walljump is definitely not a thing that's going to be possible to do on console (note: this is what I said about the jump to skip Shades as well but I have done that on console now and I both love and hate Aglar for making me try it and do it because it is so insanely precise that I wish it wasn't possible for realtime), but I need to try out that ice boost.

No. Killing the enemies is deliberate as to reduce lag, and killing them while the explosion is around causes them to not drop an item, also to reduce lag. Additionally, the waiting period between explosion and being able to charge the next bomb is longer than you probably think.

USB-PS2 converter here too. I consider the DualShock2 to be the best all-round gamepad ever made, so it's the best choice if you're just going to have one PC gamepad. I do have a wired X360 pad for my X360 as well, but I really only use that for PC games when it require it, and sometimes not even then - for anything I want to play with a d-pad, the DualShock2 just blows the X360 pad out of the water since the d-pad on that is hella awkward to use. The DualShock2 really is the pinnacle of the design the SNES pad pioneered, which was evolved via the PlayStation pad, the DualShock and then the DualShock2. All the buttons and sticks in the right places, and four proper shoulder buttons rather than two buttons and two triggers.
Plus, I now have a USB-PS2 converter that takes four controllers, so that's pretty nice for multiplayer stuff.

The fact that it's actually the old character design rather than the bullshit we got to saw later with wings and ears and retarded hair and goddamned cutie marks on their faces is one of the reasons I'm back to carefully neutral about it. Watch those later character designs we saw pictures of be how the toys are going to look!
All in all it looks like it could have been much worse.
Still stupid things about it: I fully expect a romance between Twilight and whatshisface to be shoehorned in, and the other main characters aren't humanized versions of the ponies but, uh, characters in the mirror universe. Which makes no fucking sense unless we go with what my current favourite theory for explaining away the whole movie is: The entire thing takes place in Twilight's head.
When it comes out, I'm fully planning on getting a groupwatch of it together, because this isn't something that's going to be possible to fully appreciate alone.

I, uh, found a thing, coincidentally the same day as I bumped this topic. It's kind of huge, but can't actually be used for an any% TAS - because doing it requires having Shades (so maybe for a 100% TAS, I guess?).
The idea was gotten after rereading this post by Blublu:

It does. Saves three minutes right there. Definitely the biggest find in this game since the switch glitch. At least for realtime any% running, the Shades skip kind of beats it a lot for TASing.

Five year old topic, arise! Well, 4½. Ish.
Because I'm now back to being hard at work at recording my realtime runs of this. Any% and 100%. I got a 100% recorded, but counted 45-ish seconds wasted, so I've been trying again.
And then this happened, costing me a 20-25 second improvement.
I'm showing this here because... I don't know. It's the first time I've ever seen anything remotely like it, I've done the motions in this video countless times. I definitely don't think I'd be able to reproduce it on emulator, even if I do the exact same things seen in this video. I'm just grasping at straws to find answers, and you people if any seem like the guys who'd be able to figure something out.

Oh. Yeah. I see the entire problem. And that problem is how I always tend to add a stupid thing at the end when I note down things with the same/similar meaning like that. Usually just some variation of "whatever". For some reason I decided on a "fuck you, that's why" when writing that, and the comma placement screws up the parsing of the rest of the sentence if you don't know those four words are supposed to be seen a separate unit.
I have no idea if I intended to keep that like that in the final version of the text, as I said this was that part in the state that it was.
Small edit possibly incoming later, but for now just ignore those four words and the sentence should make sense again.
Also here's something someone said on IRC (names withheld to protect the innocent): "Did Warp just say "Fuck you" is a verb?"
