Watched this last night before bed, and all it really did was hasten my falling asleep. The game looks hard, but the TAS does not look much fun.

I'd rather have it archived, that way, topics for games with old information can be resurrected (which is a good thing) for new runs, rather than effort being duplicated.

Every time you post, you just get (or seem to get) more and more arrogant. Would you like to add something to the discussion instead of 'mine will be much better'?

Try deleting any save ram that may have been created - I had that problem.

I just did a little memory watching, and I now know that Lee's Backfist (L+B) does an incredibly stupid amount of damage (180 on my test door), which means doors should be breakable in two hits - a jumping hit before landing, then turn around and backfist it. This will make the slowest part of the platforming stages a lot faster. You can also (sometimes) knock enemies through doors, destroying them instantly. However, because the backfist's attack animation is so short... it is probably not always worth it. This would be a great time to prefer entertainment over speed. Opinions?

Klonoa takes a short break thanks to the awesomeness that is this game. Here is a demonstration of what is possible; this is not too tightly optimised, though I tried out a few different techniques on the platforming stages. The big battle at the end showcases some fun moments. Any comments?

Maybe some code disassembly would help? If the precise conditions for hitting the switch are calculated, then reversing the process should be calculable too.

Yeah, I got hit because I was bored - it literally affects nothing. I'm trying to make Klonoa look strangely incompetent, as during the autoscroller. :)

Alright, now pokemon green is 'out of the way', I've got back to working on this one! I've run up to the end of the first world again, improving by 161 frames thanks to damage boosts, and some occasional minor changes.

My favourite parts of past Zelda soundtracks are on Zelda 2, which OoT does not seem to borrow from. Aside from what I already mentioned, I also quite like Turrican 2.

I think the OoT soundtrack is decidedly average, personally. Though some of the ocarina songs are not so bad. For me, the best soundtrack is that of Klonoa 2: Veil of Lunatea - gloriously rich and sometimes chaotic. When I am feeling retro, that of Phantasy Star II. When I want to kill someone, Quake III :)

The bats have a longer movement range, so yes, they take longer to decide. Also, some monsters have set strategies like 'stay in this place until a player reaches tile X'. This usually takes precedence.

It is a book for children (despite the somewhat darker themes later on). Of course there will be obvious errors upon analysis. It's not meant to be believable, it's meant to be fun. Edit: I don't particularly mean this in a condescending manner. Oh, and of course she wouldn't like it being 'for children'. Sell less books that way. 8)

Heh.
There's your clue, brainiac. I did my own picking through the assembly and pretty much decided it wasn't possible, similar to hanzou. I also learnt a ton of useless stuff about N64 architecture. :)

Well, you got there first, so well done. :) One thing though - I was often able to manipulate random encounters away just by holding A while moving; was this impossible for yours?

Damnit, I spent over 8 hours trying for a 7-crit+miss setup on my latest attempt, with no luck whatsoever. You may as well do a tiny bit more testing then submit. I should cancel this.

Too short, too much action, too many names. She wrote the film this time, not a book. It's like she jammed in as much action as possible, forgetting for any actual character development. Also, the ending is twee as hell.

Tell Bisqwit that. You missed the whole point of this thread being about heuristics.

Nah, HP can't possibly be 18, but 19 looks possible. Alright, I'll try that. If I don't get anything in 2 days, I'm... I'm... not going to be happy.

Easily my favourite pre-PSX RPG; I'd love to see WIPs on this.

I think I had 19 once.
Primo also mentioned this, but this confuses me - HP has no DV in Pokemon Red/Blue/Green, right? So how would it vary? Of course, if I can manage to get 19hp and 9 Defense, then I can die in 2 max-damage crits and a max-damage normal hit, which is faster (not to mention less tedious to find). But it would mean I have to throw away the first max-damage crit I found. 8) Oh, and about the text: I did try that at first, but I came to the conclusion it was MUCH slower. Also I have to turn battle animation off anyway, so I don't see how it would gain me frames (though it does give more scope for manipulation, I guess).

gocha: That was my reference. However, note that he uses GB rather than SGB. The rest of the time difference would be solved by manipulating the two misses.

About the luck - I started another TAS working off the DVs I already rolled, and my first critical hit. I've successfully made my first Tackle miss, but all the luck afterwards has been completely unusable. I've done over 6000 trials on this situation so far, and... no crits. Without automation, this is an incredibly tedious job. :) I fully admit this is not optimal, but I was advised to submit now and replace it later if a better result was obtained. If you feel this movie is not good enough to warrant publication now, then I would call that a fair reason to vote no.

Yeah, I realise that, but I think he could be worth it if purely just for Battle #4 - lots of little enemies to kill.
