I was under the impression that killing the sound saved time, by making the game less laggy.
It does specifically when taking turns. Aside from that and loading screens there isn't much benefit.

Believe it or not, aside from the few stunts and inputting my name, this run is actually fairly optimized. I wouldn't mind redoing it in a month or two but I'm pretty burnt out from it at the moment. I'll probably get it published and work on a faster version using the promotional speed cheat that takes you to 220 mph +.

As I get closer to finishing the TAS, would you guys like for me to include the "no bike" bug in the game? It's where you are knocked off your bike by oncoming traffic, and then traffic basically steals your car as the bike is pushed forever and ever. It would ruin the race but it would look pretty funny. Neat game. It reminds me of Skitchin', since both games were made by EA and they clearly are cousins of one another. Two quick questions though: 1) Is it possible to get first place in the first race? It seems a shame that the best a TAS can do is second place. 2) In Skitchin', you get a substantial speed boost (~10 units, with 125 being max speed) when you perform a trick off of a ramp. Is that the case here as well? I notice you didn't use ramps much, but in the one instance I caught, your speedometer didn't increase. Still, you'll want to verify that you don't get a speed boost by looking at the RAM.
1) Some races are unbeatable without upgrading your equipment, even if the next few races afterwards you take first. It's just how the game is laid out and I'd rather have equipment that will let me win more races on-wards then sticking to cheaper equipment and draining my funds for one race. 2) There are NO tricks in this game. I only use ramps to either get around traffic or to make the race finishes look cooler. In fact, once you have a bike that can hit 170, you don't even want to go on a ramp at all, or even a hill for that matter because wind resistance starts to really take a toll on you. As soon as you're in the air, you begin to lose speed.

I'm interested in this project as well. Though I would say that losing music to save a couple frames seems not a worthwhile trade off.
Well the music also causes slowdown on tight turns for whatever reason. Once I get to the final set of races I'll reenable it since you can fix the glitch by mashing start at a few correct frames.

So apparently nobodies ever done a TAS of this game. Ever. It's been on my mind for a while now that I would love to TAS this game, since I grew up with it years back and still enjoy picking it up today. Over the past 3 days I've been working on a TAS and it's around 1/3 completed. It is going for good times, no crashes, minimal losses of speed and no arrests. It also abuses a helpful little glitch I found that causes the game to stop playing sound, which saves about 2 frames every loading screen. Here's the current WIP of my run: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/28082734745900161

If anyone can give me a list of known bugs and glitches (in English) I'd gladly do a TAS of this thing.

So, I have a problem that I can't seem to find any answers to anywhere. I will record a movie of the SF2 series or other games running on CPS-1 hardware and I get desyncs while playing the file. However, I can record games such as SF3, Alpha 3 or even SF2 Super Turbo and be completely fine. Is this just a general problem with FBA-rr or could I have some messed up files?

So, whenever I try to load a savestate while recording a Neo Geo game, FBA-rr always gets a misc. guru error. No matter what Neo Geo game it is, this problem ALWAYS happens. Any fix for this or should I use MAME-rr for Neo Geo games?

oh ok,i remember readin about that on super turbo too,but the frameskip is a lot lesser..still u can frame manipulate for the skips to get a few combos goin sometimes, but i guess nobody can expect a lot of 1 frame links.Another thing to consider is that this speed might be better suited for a pure speedrun of the game than a playaround but i don't know if you find that interesting.
Unfortunately the only thing I could even think of for speed running this game is the CPS-1 version, but I can't manage to get fba-rr to not desync ANY CPS-1 recordings, regardless of game or length.

http://sonichurricane.com/articles/sf2chain.html ,but i don't know about the snes version.u can cancel normally,u shouldn't have any problems to do it with the correct cancelable moves.
I've been doing testing and talking with some of the guys on SRK. It's RARELY possible in anything above 6 star mode due to how often the game skips vital frames for inputs. The cancelling is actually due to a glitch. During the freeze of the game your able to bypass your normal recovering frames on the moves animation. BUT, due to the massive frame skipping on 10 star, this is next to impossible. That and the SNES version is very technically different than the CPS-1 version of the game in many aspects, including the comboing system. I've managed to get some clean cancels with Dictator on my current TAS but it's very hard to get consistent due to the aforementioned issues.

Actually you can cancel special moves from medium attacks and heavy attacks in Champion Edition/Hyper Fighting. It's just done differently then Super Street Fighter II and Beyond. If you input your move during the ending of the impact frames. A special move will be able to come out. I've been able to combo specials from cr. mp and st. mp attacks consistently with Boxer.
I actually wasn't aware of that specific difference. Most of my SF2 experience is from Super Turbo and Anniversary. I'll keep it in mind for my Dictator run I'm starting.

this game has no combo counter, but u clearly didn't do anythin impressive,i believe,i'm not even sure any of the normal attacks were even canceled
You can't cancel moves in SF2. You have to rely on startup frames being less than whatever the hitstun is. That's why, even in Super Turbo, just about the most complex a combo got was chaining lights and jump ins.

First Semi-TAS that was created, by using a special name in the name field.
I don't think "frisk mode" qualifies for a TAS run, though. It is an unfinished hard mode that only lets you play the first area out of five. So it doesn't actually complete the game. Also, if the aim is to finish the game in the hardest way, then clearly that needs either the Omega Flowey or the infamous Sans battle at the end. Neither of which works in frisk mode.
Photo Shop Flowey is actually incredibly easy so long as you strafe left/right constantly. I've yet to ever die to him myself.

That was really fun to watch actually. I could never get into any SNK games myself outside of Metal Slug.
