Having tried this game myself, I know how hard it is to optimise. But ThunderAxe did a really great job ! Also you did a lot of research on Speed pattern, glitches, and such on the game subforum. I agree with the others that it would be nice to have those summarize in the submission text. Anyway, I'll give it a big YES vote.

Is it possible to use Lua to record an AVI file ? To be more specific, I would like that Bizhawk dumps the AVI only when a certain address is not equal to 1 for example. Stop dumping when it turns to 1, then continue dumping afterwards. I can't seem to find a function for that, so I was wondering.

Just in case someone is wondering the same thing I kinda found a solution. Using LuaScript I assigned keys to memorysavestate.savecorestate and memorysavestate.loadcorestate so the inputs are not saved in the savestate if I understood correctly. And then everything works instantly. To the experts, is there a downside of doing that ? Risks of desync maybe ?

Oh, that's a surprise. It does indeed look very good so far ! Have you already plan ahead for the next world ? I don't think the length will be an issue, my main concern is that you already use a lot of glitches and it might get a little repetitive in the end. The amount of Item Swap and Stun Glitch so far didn't bother me, but it's just the first two worlds yet, so let's see where this is going. I also agree with Masterjun's ideas. For example you can showcase the new small only levels that just became possible ?

I am at about 4 millions frames in my TAS and whenever I want to save or load a state it now takes forever. I guess it's because the whole input sequence up to this point is save in the State but is there a way to speed up the process ? Because I'm spending more time waiting for load/save than actually TASing. I tried stopping the movie, Record from Now with the idea of splicing movies together afterwards but the Record From Now softlock for me when the game loads something. I am on Bizhawk 1.11.9 Thanks.

Hey. I was wondering if it was possible to increase the blank part of the screen, either via Lua or display configuration, in order to put some Lua drawings that will be recorded at the same time as the game in avi ? Something like that : https://i.imgur.com/vYydJ6X.png Or should I stick to draw over the game screen with a background and record two separate videos to mix in video editing later ? Not sure if I'm clear but thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot ! :) As planned, progress has been really slow. And even more, because I changed my mind along the way. 1) Originally I exchange Chocobo Points against 99 Ore. You got enough points to buy 12 Ore per game. But then, after arriving on Vile Island for Yans, I figured out that with 87 Ore, I still have barely enough good odds to kill them without losing too much time manipulating RNG. So I went back and it saved me one round of Chocobo Hot and Cold, so about 40 seconds . However it would completely change the RNG in a way I can't catch up with what I previously did. So I had to redo everything from that point. Then 2) At first, I bought the perfect amount of missable items (by that I mean items that can't be bought anymore after Excalibur II), like the guide tells you to do. However, some of those items are used in combination with other non missable to synthesize new stuffs. But I didn't have enough of those non-missable ones to synthesize the perfect amount of objects. No big deal, since I can still buy them anytime. BUT that would require a new detour on a lot of places that I actually visited during the Mognet Sidequest. So I went back in the movie and hex-edit shoppings everytime I had to. Got a lot of desync to fix, but after a long period I finally caught back with Yans today.

Just finished maxing stats of the Tetra Master Cards. Took 184 games. Link to video On a side note, I've been accepted in the school of my dream and started last monday, so next progress are gonna go way slower.

Ah; oh well, good to have it cleared up on my end at least. Thanks, sorry for the bad tip! Trying to recall where I read it now... Hardly a big deal anyway, with the Yans already being a prime sauce of Virus. You planning on your early Yan fights, till you get the Ore that makes Odin viable, to use similar strats the the videos you put up a couple of years ago?
No I exchanged 99 Ore in the Chocobo Hot n Cold sidequest before maxing the points.

The difference is that I never managed to make it work for FF9, either in Psxjin or Bizhawk whereas Disc swap works for FF7 and is part of the input so it's in the movie file. But I agree, in the end it's probably better to not use Disc swap other than for the screen asking for it.

Tested it yesterday to find how much Exp I still need. They keep getting exp even at level 99. They only stop when they reach 9 999 999, which is well beyond level 99. :)

Haha, yeah. I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss an obvious strategy before going for hundreds of fights. Tested a few of them for the last couple hours, and nothing beats Odin. Guess Dagger is gonna stay for all fights and will get Virus when she hit level 99. AP shouldn't be a problem, since the main characters nearly know everything and the others should get enough AP provided I switch equipment in between gaining levels. Fastest, so far : Link to video EDIT : I just did the maths, and if I'm not mistaken, I'll need 240 fights againt Yans to have everybody at level 99. So, to max Thievery, I can steal 4 items per fight, and use Night only once, instead of Night twice for 6 items. Even if I estimate spending 1min10s per fight in average (stealing and not) that would still do 4h40m of Yans grinding... Meaning the leftovers are going to take close to 10 hours. I guess I'll make two encodes, with one skipping the grinding parts so it's not too boring.

God, that was painful... I don't know how many hours I've spent on it, but here t is finally : 100 Dragons have been slaughtered. Dragon Crest is now doing 9999 damage. Healing Beaches sidequest is also done. Left to be done : - Maxing levels. - Maxing Thievery. (currently at 83, needs to be 572 to do 9999 damage at level 99). Both against Yans I suppose. I thought of doing it like this : Quina goes first and use Night, so Yans don't counter. Zidane with Auto-Haste, Bandit and Master Thief, steals both items of each Yans. I haven't tested it yet but I assume they're gonna wake up before every steal is complete, so Odin to kill those we don't need and Freeze from Ice Brand or Sleep from Bistro Fork to neutralize those we still do. Any thoughts ?

A little bit more of analysis. In Final Fantasy IX, you have a Hunter Rank based on how many treasures you picked up. You can view the current value by going to Treno Inn and looking at 800077E78. My score after doing everything but grinding is 440 points. Every chest, field icon, reward,... is worth one point. Every Chocograph treasure is worth two points. Every Crack and Bubble is worth two points. There is 370 items worth a point. (Previous research thought it was 369, but they didn't count the reward for the Nero Brother sidequest, not known at the time.) 24 Chocograph treasures so 48 points. 10 Cracks and Bubbles, plus Chocobo Air Garden, so 22 points. For a grand total of 440 points. So unless I'm completely mistaken, this is actual proof that I really got everything there is to get in the game ^^ EDIT : Just in case someone is interested by that, here is how your Treasure Hunter Rank is determined : Points value : 000-199 RANK H 200-219 RANK G 220-239 RANK F 240-259 RANK E 260-279 RANK D 280-299 RANK C 300-319 RANK B 320-339 RANK A 340-440 RANK S

Thanks ! Also I just saw your signature, I didn't know you were froggy25. Huge thanks to you for the Tetra Master PNRG and the upgrading formula. Saved me hundred hours of bruteforcing to get cards to A rank ! EDIT : Also, while I got you, maybe you can help me. I'm currently maxing the Dragon kills with Serpion. However I was sure to have seen written somewhere once that they can appear by group of three. But Gamefaqs Monster List has them by two maximum. So which one is correct ? EDIT 2 : Finished the Nero Brothers sidequest. Next time we go to Memoria will be to finish the game !

Chocobo Hot and Cold is maxed out. 99 999 points with beak level of 99. All Chocographs, Cracks and Bubbles have been found, allowing to start the Healing Beaches sidequest. I have at least one of each item in the game (except for Tin Armor because you can only get it by synthetising the Hammer which is also unique, so I decided to keep the Hammer) and perfect amount of the missable items. For Tetra Master, all cards have A rank and unique arrows combination, giving us the maximum Collector level which is glitched :D I estimate the total of Tetra Master games needed to be played to have all Stats maxed to be around 200.

Let's say I have an adress. The current value is 18. Is there a possibility, via disassembly or whatever, to know what the maximum value of this adress is ? Like, for exemple, it can go up to 22, so I know I won't settle for 18. Thanks.

The last WIP uploaded yes, but it was actually way further. Yes, the route is very different, mostly because the change of loading times made me do less sidequests before Excalibur II that I have to do now. Anyway, hooray for three millions frames !

Took a long break as I didn't feel very motivated to TAS lately, but I'm back in it. A good chunk of Tetra Master is done, we now move to the Mognet Central sidequest. 13 hours in.
