Those are damn impressive, you're doing an excellent job !
Quick question though about the Sanctuary of Scion.
At 1:25, couldn't you just jump your way up instead of hitting the wall, jump, grab ? Or is it for luck manipulation ?

Do you mean how long it will take in-game ? If so, probably around 1h30 spread all over the place.
In real time, of how long it will take me, I guess a lot. Even though I'm now completely knowledgeable of every little mechanics and don't have to bruteforce anymore.
For exemple :

is tightly optimized, takes 1 minute of In-Game time but took 1h30 to make.
EDIT : Disc 4 up to Excalibur II :

I can still send you the movie file when I'm sure I won't touch it anymore, and then you can send me a text with the frames and texts you want and I'll do the coding.
Anyway, Disc 3 is done :

Processing ATM, should wait a little bit.

Reached the Earth Guardian, about 10h30 in.
Shell Dragon is gonna be a real pain as always if lady Luck isn't on my side, but rest of the third Disc should go smoothly.

Having worked a little bit on this game, I'm really impressed with what you've done.
However I second what Spikestuff said, it seems you can damage through and get a mask later on to save a few seconds. Haven't tried though.
Hopefully the next levels are easily hexeditable.
Keep up the great work !

Well it's not actually a program, it's just lua drawings over the screen.
For stuff like timer, RNG, thievery, aso, a simple line of code suffice to do the whole movie.
But for things like items on this particular screen or written commentaries, I have to type 'if the framecount is between this and that, then display this text'. That's what takes the longest to do. So your help would be greatly appreciated ^^
Also if you have a better picture to use as background while making the texts still readible.
Anyway, thanks for the good luck ! I just finished Desert Palace this morning, on to Esto Gaza...

I finally finished watching it, it was nicely done. One little suggestion I can see for future encodes (like, let's say, the 100% TAS) is to add the critical chance somewhere, because it wasn't always easy to see which character can crit and which can't.
Thanks. Well for Critical, it's a case by case thing. It all depends on the Spirit of the character.
Basically, this is how it works :
If Spirit is between..............................Random Number needed in the 4th byte
< 12.....................................................No critical hit possible
12-15...................................................100 193 200
16-23...................................................No critical hit possible
24-27...................................................079 086 093 100 193 200
28-31...................................................086 093 100 165 172 179 186 193 200
32-35...................................................079 086 093 100
36-39...................................................079 086 093 100 151 158 165 172 179 186 193 200
40-43...................................................No critical hit possible
44-47...................................................065 079 086 093 100 151 172 186 193 200
48-50...................................................079 086 093 100 151 158 165 172 179 186 193 200
So at times a number will work for one character but not for another, while sometimes one cannot Critical at all.
The maximum odds we're gonna get in a any% is with Spirit from 28 to 31 which is 9/256.
And thanks Paused for posting the videos. I'm currently midway through Disc 3, still right on schedule for Excalibur II.

Indeed the loading times are pilling up. In the end, the improvment in term of gameplay alone is about 2 minutes 30 sec.
We have had a little trouble with the ROM I used, which desync on others, so it's not gonna be in the Workbench yet but you can start watching the encode with comments if you want to

I was actually swaping from Disc 1 to Disc 2 just after pressing New Game to load the wrong FMV, but his method seems to completely bypass it. I haven't tried yet to see if it works on Bizhawk.
The question remains though. Can we still Disc Swap, as it will be part of the movie file to shorten or disable FMV ?
Disc change to another game to glitch the World Map would be a no-no for me as the game shouldn't be in the m3u file to start with.

I'm finally done with the any% and commentaries.
I have trouble encoding the overlay around the game encode but hopefully it's just a matter of days now.
About the 100%, I want to let the one done on psxjin go, as there is a lot of mistakes that can be fixed, and I know now how Auction House, Ragtimer and Cards upgrade work so they can be much more optimized.
However the way longer loading times of Bizhawk makes for a lot of route changes to get Excalibur II in time.
I made a testrun, editing memory, to see with perfect luck how it would go and I reached ExII with 7 minutes to spare (with the route changes). I don't know if I can get decent luck enough with 7 minutes of manipulation, but I have at least something to compare with.
Not planning on working on the new version anytime soon though.

Hope you don't mind me asking how you're getting on Gecko?
The any% has been completed a while ago but I spend ages doing the commentaries.
At the moment the first 3 discs have them but it's gonna be worth the wait, as everybody will be able to follow the story, kind of like a TAS and a playthrough at the same time.
But I found a small improvment at the end (about 100 frames), I have to see if I can hex-edit Necron without losing too much.
For the 100%, I'm not sure. I kinda want to redo it on Bizhawk, now that I have route and everything planned and I am more knowledgable about Ragtimer encounter, Cards upgrade, aso... But because of loading times, I will lose about 45 minutes before Excalibur II so changes would have to be made (half of it can be done by skipping 6 members of the Nero sidequest though). Still unsure.

I forgot that Vivi is mandatory in Mount Gulug... And Steiner does need to learn Charge ! against Meltigemini so I can't take Amarant and Freya to stop Red Dragons.
EDIT : But a Critical from Freya with Holy Lance plus Heat from Steiner does the trick and gives extra EXP, useful for Zidane in Pandemonium I guess.

Good call. Amarant is indeed used but didn't thought of the Heavy Lance in Esto Gaza which does Stop.
However this would require to equip Freya before and go back to the menu after to switch to the Holy Lance for Meltigemini, where using Vivi doesn't need to go to the menu twice. But using Heat from Steiner would still require to give him Coral Sword to learn Charge ! so Freya is indeed faster than Steiner.
So... you're probably right. Freya and Amarant is probably the way to go. Thanks :)
EDIT : The detour to fight Tantarian in Disc 3 is 1 minute 41 sec long thanks to Lucky Seven. Auto-Haste will save time by skipping ennemies turn using ATB on wait, but will this make up for 6000 frames... Wait and see...

Actually, now that I have something to compare against, I want to try Tantarian strat.
Fighting him in Disc 2 takes 5 minutes which is definitely not worth it, but with Lucky Seven in Disc 3 it might.
So off to TASing again...
EDIT : While I am at it, I saved 3 seconds in Disc 2 by not stealing the Oak Staff from Soulcage. I thought I needed it against Red Dragons to stop them but Steiner can inflict them Heat. Even though that means Zidane has to suicide to not get Exp, it's still faster overall.

Commentaries are taking way longer than expected.
I'm trying to summarize what's in the dialog boxes so you can follow the story along to help keeping it interesting during the boring parts in addition to explaining tricks and stuff. I think all the hard work will pay off in the end but it's extremely time consuming. I've only done 3/4 of Disc 1 right now...

It's the normal behaviour if you're trying to hold a shell, a throw block, a goomba,...
It's possible to keep them on Yoshi though by using a glitch first (tongue-cancel or whatever you wanna call it).
If you try with a key, p-switch, springboard,... you won't get hurt.

Done !
Couple more weeks for commentaries and encode. But I have good hope it's gonna be in the Workbench before the end of the month.
