I'm referring to this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaAyO4E8Kbs#t=65 Maybe the damage only increased because of tag battle mode? Never played this version.

I agree with Spikestuff about versus (fighting) games should be use in-game time since everyone use it for (RTA) WR's. "If you attack an enemy during their attack, it is a counter hit and they receive extra damage." So, why didn't you used Yoshimitsu? It would deal ~90% + 20%, an instant kill on each round. Is there any reason besides "every tekken uses yoshimits"? edit: obvious yes vote casted

No, and no. Regarding "hostages"... SEGA developed Arcade Shinobi. Later it was ported (with modifications) to SMS. Then TENGEN reverse engineered it to NES. You can see there are many programmer failures. Hostages are power ups and has nothing to do with completing the game. When you see I damage boost or jump over a power up is because it's a BONUS POWER UP as I said at both submission text and game resources page which concludes in a 25~whatever long you play seconds ninja shooter mini game which gives you a ninja magic out of 5 that's only useable on very specific places (hard coded). Both the Gamefaqs and the game's own manual is off about these informations, bosses won't get more damage from a power up. Even if they would, it would be way slower. Power UP is totally useless on early levels since everyone dies to 1 hit.
Mr. Kelly R. Flewin wrote:
Since you get so many Life Ups and Life Maxes, were there not more places you could have taken a hit/bump to save time?
Damage boosting to the right only possible if they are facing to the right. If you damage boost from an enemy and you land on an other enemy, you get another damage boost (and each falling costs 1 frame) so you aren't supposed to damage boost all the time but when it's possible to reduce the number of fallings. Oh, answer to your question is no more possible places to boost to make it any faster. edit: voted no.

Without any statistics, people usually vote on submissions but publications. People who just want to enjoy videos won't register the site to make a vote. They watch the youtube encode and maybe leave a comment and/or rate the video. I don't see what would change with a "flag".

Sorry I won't read all the posts. My 2 cents:
    - I don't like the name Vault. - A safe logo for bad runs... really... #bringbacksmwpoll - We have star movies that's dependent on votes and feos, moon movies depends on votes and the judge, and vault which depends on votes and judge. So what's the difference between vault and moon apart from "probably shittier" game?
I think you know my poll vote.

They are different ports on different engines. I don't think so. I tried some position changes, but enemies anyway spawn from both sides.
You are right, the spawns are fixed and timed on Genesis so that place can't be improved.

I think an extra sentence for the Wiki: GameResources page might link to a list of useful links categorized. General things (gamefaqs, mobygames, bootgod) and the specific ones with search terms to help others reserachig progress a bit fruitier. So, who should I ask for permission and what should be the page called, containing links and few tips?

Apart from my original intention to find as many resources as possible of specific countries' video games (japanese, korean, chinese mostly), it might become useful for others to find russian or whatever infos. Baidu is for chinese searches, VK is the russian facebook. I think it worth to make a wiki page to help TASers find what they can researched by others. My name suggestion would be FindingResources.

Great attitude. While you are still motivated in TASing, your very first step right now would be reading the Wiki: WelcomeToTASVideos and the articles in the movie making tab @ Wiki: ArticleIndex. TASing is usually a long process where you take advantage of the great features that emulators offer. While there's a tier (Wiki: Vault tier which accepts "lousy" runs (TASes made with very low effort), you are supposed to make a "superplay", an inhuman, perfect run where every effort made in order to shorten the gameplay. Good luck on learning more and creating higher quality TASes!

How do you guys search for resources (faq, TAS, docs, manual) in "hard to look after" languages like japanese, korean, chinese etc games? I have a load of games that only released in 1 country without any translation or additional information. The only thing I know is people usually use the TAS tag or "Time Attack" and google translate sucks when there are more than 1 word... What I would like to ask is if there anyone who knows the proper words for these... * tool-assisted speedrun or time attack written in chinese, * tool-assisted speedrun in korean, * time attack in japanese, Aaand regarding info, * chinese and korean video sites (not nicovideo/nicodouga/niconico) for TASes edit: * "play-through" or "long-play" in japanese/chinese/korean (most of the games just have unassisted gameplays) Things I already found out (at least I've got something result) * japanese TASers usually make a website per game/TAS but that's greatly depends on the game itself. * korean TAS portals (just like any other korean portals like inven but for TASes, I think they use a different variation of time attack) Japanese infos: * HardcoreGaming101 has a lot of "version differences" and japanese informations of games Korean infos: * 타임어택 is time attack * Super Mario World is 슈퍼 마리오 월드 * NES was released as Hyundai Comboy (page has a few other korean NES related infos) If everything fails: * Bootleg Games (only unreleased and pirate games) * The Cutting Room Floor (mostly popular, E/US games)

"How the hell do people find this stuff?!"
My general strategy is trying to understand how the developers coded the game.
    1. I always start with creating a HUD lua script that shows object positions, states, timers etc and then try every input (to see effects of reset, how does input polling works, u+d+l+r etc). 2. After that I document the physics/rules of the game, divide it into smaller chunks/parts and figure out how to meet the required conditions to finish the levels. 3. If everything done right, I could start a pretty solid 1st level TAS which is very useful since games tends to desync. And 80% of the time I have to restart a TAS and rebuild it if a new trick or idea discovered. 4. Once I know the possible ways of manipulating those values that might reduce the time of the speedrun (RNG based on timer? Enemy subpos depends on previous objects? Level ID based on SRAM init? Resetting increases a debug counter?), I will reach a point where I can't make further tests to try to beat my own TAS.
TL;DR: I make assumptions (how does the game works) and make tests regarding what I think and see from lua script output (HUD) up to a point that I can't come up with anything else to try.

Pretty sure this is a cheat code because you would get points for picking up the other items aswell (for example 1000 points for the "badge" or whatever is that 3rd item is).

Aglar's trick in his solo submission was throwing the jellybean on the first frame and change the transformation by throwing another jellybean at next occasion. edit: well, it's not a trivial trick/exploit. I've compared the possible routes and I found out that using this trick on a few other spots in this new route saves 8 (the beginning) + 136 frames in total. Since Aglar PM'd me once I submitted the movie, I think it was fair to credit him and rework the TAS with the new knowledge.

I will write down the route and add it to submission text once someone makes an encode. edit: thanks solarplex =) Also jellybean scrolling synced to blob animation and then music (order of priorities).

Can memory corruption be used to save time for this game?
The potential corruption will probably only lead to $00 room, so as long as you can't manipulate other values before hand (continuing the game from another gameplay), you can't.

As I mentioned, it's more likely to desync because of phantom input (DPCM bug you mentioned) rather than spamming S which I won't and doesn't generates sound. Also I'm going to cancel the movie for another reason too: further combining jellybeans using Aglar's trick. Obviously it will take time because it's take longer to recall blob (B) but faster if used correctly: - feed blob with a jellybean - throw a ketchup jellybean on next occasion - throw your desired jellybean on next occasion Result: blob eats the 1st thrown jellybean, teleports to 2nd jellybean location and activates 3rd jellybean effect. Did I underestimated this game a little bit? 88 frames already improved...

Memory corruption would be my guess, but I have no idea how the corruption would have been triggered.
While I know you can trigger a memory corruption which affects the game many (2000?) frames later by not pressing R for 1 frame, the video footage probably just happened because he continued the game and used the left-over data. Pretty sure you couldn't do this consistently from power-on but using continue you probably able to recreate it in real time (depending on what addresses you can manipulate).

After a lot of different setups for level 4 "left" dog (what we want to manipulate to hit that fucking red block), Scumtron's half pixel improvement makes that situation unresyncable. Probably level 4 will be longer than the previous route with 4-6 frames, of course we could get advantage by a bigger sacrifice (previous route: a simple -2.0px sacrifice compared to -4.5~-11.0px)

I nearly rewrote the full movie, so one could argue that the movie is already looks much differently then the previous one (and I used to asking movie replace only for minimal changes, not entire input change).

I will fiddle with what others mentioned regarding jellybean scrolling (sync it to sound for example). Blob animation runs at 4 fps so the scrolling speed would be halved for animations, what I doubt people will enjoy it more (scrolling all the time (2fps) or just every 4frames (4fps)) feos: so, 8 frames improved in the beginning, got new coathor and entertainment will be redone... Cancel the movie and resubmit it, right?
