We've decided not to get him mainly because Almo, the current WR holder, wanted to see what time the game could get down to. We might plan on routing out 100%, in which we would surely get Flavio.

If we have Yoshi (we didn't when we lost to Doopliss), it's much much faster to use him instead. The transition into paper mode takes much more time as well. Most of the time, if the room is small, tube mode will lose time because it starts off at a slow speed and gradually goes up to 3.09.

Jumping gives a max speed of 2.6775 whereas rolling will give you a speed of 3.09/3 (it alternates every other frame lol). Therefore it's faster to do it earlier.

I'm not sure where Kirby got that number from (probably when getting the Ruby Star), but we are 32 minutes and 5.16 seconds ahead of the WR from entering chapter 5. I do believe cannons can be skipped without going into paper mode, but I can't say for sure yet. kwinse, There's actually a reason I don't switch Yoshi right away. Using him immediately in the room with the Dayzee isn't faster. So, it actually doesn't matter. But, I switch partners after I come out of the crack because it actually cancels out Mario's transition out of it, if you understand.

Would I want to TAS Paper Mario 64? There's a possibility. It's a totally different game in term of glitches and mechanics I guess, so I might not. But anyway, let's just focus on TTYD for now and worry about PM64 later :P

We finished Chapter 4 in 2:56:53.32! I got fish glitch and found a slightly faster strat for activating the blocks in Hooktail's castle since we don't have koops out. We'll be encoding shortly ;)

I spent several days manipulating and finally manipulated the goombas correctly. 3 frames were wasted in 2 different spots to have them all attack mario. And now we shall continue to Creepy Steeple!

We thought a while about the fastest method of getting into Peril, and we've concluded going into battle with a group of Hyper Spiked Goombas on the way to Creepy Steeple would be the fastest. 1. Other methods take around 3 rounds to get to peril. This method takes 1 round. 2. This is not out of the way whatsoever.

After many calculations and testing, we've just found out it's impossible to carry out the Mayor Pig cutscene trigger from outside his house and still save time. This basically shows how the mayor moves: G is the start position of the Mayor Pig E is where we can stand so we are as close to him as possible The Circle is the area he has to be in to trigger the cutscene The square is his movement zone [IMG=500x653]http://puu.sh/5qm9q.png[/IMG]

We didn't learn about that trick until later on, so we weren't able to use it... Until I realized I messed up a couple things and redid most of chapter 3. Things we fixed: We did all super hammers without actually hammering When leveling up I went left once instead of right twice Better optimization Skipped the blimp cutscene coming back to rogueport (I don't know how I forgot that, but that helped us save 600+ frames) Also I somehow messed up on the timing, saying that it was a 55:18 segment even though the video was 56:01, which didn't make any sense. The old time entering Twilight Town was actually 2:19:41 and our new time is 2:19:28. We'll be encoding shortly.

Alright, we finally made it to Major League. That means we finally get to use Yoshi. Unfortunately, the speed glitch doesn't work, so we won't be saving as much time from just movement. Z-axis speed: 4.01 X-axis speed: 3.375

The mystery item can be manipulated by wasting frames in different spots in battle. Also, Glitz Pit conditions change whenever you waste 1 frame, so they're extremely easy to optimize. We're already past Rank #13 and we're working on the Yoshi Egg and flight panel atm.

It takes longer to get an extra item for Trail Stew to lower HP when we can just take damage in a battle. We'd have to sidetrack a lot in order to cook up a mystery inconveniently, so it's not really worth it.

Lol thanks. We accidentally missed a key part of our intermission between Chapter 2 and 3. We just fixed it (we had to store some items and get more thunder rages). We're currently finished with the Rank #13 battle and are working on getting the Yoshi Egg already. Conditions for battles are very easy to manipulate.

EEssentia, I don't see how you find a longer boss fight entertaining, and also we're going for speed. If we lose time just to appear as entertaining to people, we won't sub 5 hours, which I hope we can manage. Kirbymastah, this is highly contradicting what I said to EEssentia but it would be less entertaining to see Japanese text for 5 hours instead of English. Also Kirby made his first TASes of this game on NTSC_U, so we decided to carry on with that version of the game.
