Actually, the US version is easier, michael fried. You said that already, but my question was how is it easier.

Surely your exam week must be over by now. Have you done any more attempts? Sorry if I sound impatient, but we've been waiting 10 months for this speed run! I'm sure people will still be very impressed if you get hit a few times, just send in your fastest run so far if you don't have time to do a faster run soon.

What exactly is harder about the US version? Besides the shorter fading at the beginning of the level, I haven't noticed any significant differences.

If you still hit the block then you could press left for a few frames while you're falling, I'm pretty sure that would be faster than making the big jump.

Maybe you can save a little more time in the fortress by not making such a big jump from the platform under the flower so you can start running sooner, and then duck as you fall off the ledge so you don't hit the block.

Can you post the fcm of the optimized 1-1 mushroom route?

Just an FYI, the record for the cart ride is 1:57.18. (You got 1:59.60) Which site did you find that record on?

No, I don't think I'll do that one. However, I did do a sub-11 smb3 run a while ago. We timed it at 11:03, which would make it 10:59 the way SDA times it. So it is possible in a speed run. Do you have a vid of it?

Sleepz, do you plan on doing a Mega Man speed run? TG is offering a $25 bounty for fastest completion. http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx?c=73&id=991 Anyway, *tries to think of something on topic to say* it's hard to imagine how to save 7.5 seconds unless taking the vine route in the first level is really that much faster with the up+down trick. Did you come up with something really cool like warping to another part of the level or skipping the Birdo fight?

Please use FCEU instead if possible. Why does it matter? I doubt I'll end up going farther than world 1, and even if by some chance I do decide to do a whole run, can't you just convert it to fcm format? I like Famtasia better.

I just tried out level 1 and I finished with 16 coins and was still able to jump on the turtle at the end, though the extra coin I got magically didn't give me any points for some reason so I ended up with only 100 more points than you at the end. Here's the fmv: http://s6.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=08PDEZSF82M060RWUZEN7E0NIZ If by some chance I don't get bored soon I'll continue on to the end of world 1. Btw, I forgot to mention that the fortress can be completed at 291.

Ending the level with 286 timeunits remaining. You lost 1 timeunit.

Why didn't you jump on the turtle at the end of level 1? Does that cause extra lag? Edit: 286 is possible in level 3.

The fcm ended in the middle of 1-2. When you tried level 3 with that strategy, did you hit the turtle on the white block with the tail rather than jumping on it?

What determines how fast you get taken back to the map screen? Is it a certain amount of time after you touch the box, or a certain amount of time after Mario walks off the screen? Edit: Btw, are you going to get much more than 99 lives like Genisto and Morimoto did, or will you get just 99 and also spend some time in the autoscrolling levels doing some cool tricks and glitches?

Can you post the fcm of getting the mushroom in level 1 and leaf in level 3?

anyway, getting the mushroom in 1-1 might be faster, i will see It's not just getting the mushroom in level 1 I suggested, but also getting the leaf in level 3 rather than the fortress. The leaf will slow you down a lot, but it might end up being faster since you can get to the ceiling in the fortress much faster.

You should test out getting the mushroom in level 1 and the leaf in level 3 and see if you can get it to be faster that way.

I don't think jumping affects horizontal speed (except on ice of course), but you can turn around faster by letting go of B for a frame.

I wonder if the warpless run could be improved using this glitch, too? Besides just this glitch, the warpless run can be improved a lot in several different ways.

Since the movie is kind of long, as you finish each world, can you upload a save state at the beginning of the world so we can quickly start watching from where we were up to? Edit: On second thought, ignore that comment, I just checked the zip file and it looks like that's what you did.

Mario Bros. (NES) A 2 player run for that game might be interesting, though there would be the problem of deciding where to end it. I haven't played the game for awhile, but if I remember correctly the levels just keep repeating themselves when you get to a certain point in the game so you could just stop there.

I think you should take hits where it saves time. Avoiding hits when you shouldn't looks ugly and it just looks like you weren't creative enough, and I'll probably vote no if you make that kind of run.

He took the title screen out of the wmv file and had it start on the map, and he also put a screen at the beginning that said "super mario bross3 time attack video", and a screen at the end that said his name and his two websites, but other than that, what you see in the video is the same as what you'll see if you play the fmv file. The people who said stuff like "it's video edited because the timer stopped and Mario went through a wall" just don't know anything about SMB3.
