Well, they should be in the 100% run. Not really because they require some setting up to get the fastest possible time. If the mini-game runs are just part of a 100% run then they wouldn't be as fast.

Voted yes. Now how about a run through the mini-games for the next TAS! (both KTQs and secret slide and the different variations for each) It'll be really interesting to see how close to perfection the world records are.

Yes - Spezzafer used a much different camera angle. Maybe it's boring to look at the ground to reduce lag, though. It's not like anyone doesn't know what the area looks like, and it's only a small part. I'd rather Spezzafer does whatever is fastest.

Have you tested to see if it's faster to go to Shifting Sand Land before Lethal Lava Land? Edit: Yeah, what Nitsuja said about In the Talons of the Big Bird. Have you tried the strat in Martin's vid? Maybe it's some kind of weird optical illusion and turns out being slower, but it definitely looks faster by quite a bit. http://rapidshare.de/files/6535070/talon_final.wmv.html

1. Megaman, read the rules, calling people idiots violates the no-flaming rule. http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4 2. Don't bump several month old topics. 3. If by some chance you have such a strong urge to flame and to bump an old topic, the least you could do is get your facts right, as everyone else already pointed out, they're 2 different people. 4. This topic is about to be locked.

Michael Fried knows his stuff and didn't like it... Actually I've never played the game, though I'm really good at the other Mario Karts so I guess I have good general Mario Kart knowledge. Anyway, it doesn't matter because you can tell it wasn't played well just by comparing it to those Japanese vids. Edit: It feels kind of weird repeating myself so many times, so I'll just ask this question: Is there anyone who watched the Japanese vids and still thinks that Genisto's vid should be published?

to me it was quite clear Genisto knew exactly what he was doing Not really, just watch the vids already and you'll see lots of tricks that Genisto doesn't know about. Also, there isn't a single part of Genisto's vid that has that frame perfect look that TASs are supposed to have.

I would think that doing an entire room successfully is beyond the scope of Bisqbot as of current. You could say that for any possible kind of technological advancement, but as I already mentioned we can try to make Bisqbot better, so maybe he'll be able to do it sometime in the future.

And where are these vids that you speak of? I linked to it earlier in the topic. http://www2.loops.jp/~neka/index.html

What happened to the "must beat all existing records" rule? All the tricks that Genisto did are in the non-save state vids, and the non-save state vids have more tricks in addition to that, and were also more skillfully played. The only thing "better" about Genisto's vid was the boring crashes that make it look like it was done by a first time TASer who didn't realize he's supposed to be using save states.

What's wrong with the point system? You'd already have the route planned out, so you can give it a different set of point values for each room. You can tell it where the door is that it has to reach in each room, and for each pixel closer to the door you get, the value increases by some amount. The value would also increase each time you damage an enemy you need to kill, so if you try using a weapon that doesn't hurt Patra, it would notice that the value isn't increasing by as much as it could be increasing if you used the sword. For the rupees, you could program it so that until you get to a certain point in the game (for example the point when the triforce address reaches a certain number), rupees are worth a certain amount, then after that they're worth nothing.

The POINT of BisqBot is to try to get really lucky in situations that are chaotic and unpredictable. So what's your point? Just because that's what he did for Rockman doesn't mean he can't be programmed to do more than that. Oh yeah, and I'm going to use my cool moderator authority to tell you that you need to improve your attitude or I'll... um... I'm not sure what I'll do but just make sure you're scared of me! Lol, I guess that didn't sound very moderator-like.

Who cares if they're flawed? We can choose 10 or so possible point value combinations, and then find hundreds of people willing to run the program on their computer. There's probably also some tests that could be done to figure out stuff like if it's worth it to get 5 rupees. For example, we can find the spot in Phil's movie where it costed him the least time to get 5 rupees, so if it's 5 rupees in .5 seconds, then each rupee could be worth .1 points and each second could be worth 1 point. Probably some kind of similar test could be done for bombs. Also, if I remember correctly Phil had a good point earlier in that the randomness in a room can be affected a few rooms back. What's to stop the bot from replicating whatever Phil did to find the best randomness? Have the bot randomly select 10 or so equally fast paths through the past few rooms, and for each one it analyzes each situation and determines which is fastest.

Maybe Bisqbot could evaluate each position like a chess program does. For example, a chess program might consider a pawn to be worth 1 point, a bishop 3 points, and lots of other things like open rook files and passed pawns based on how important the programmers think it is. With LoZ, getting 5 rupees could be worth some amount, killing enemies faster would be worth another amount, and using less bombs would be another amount. Then for each possible outcome, it does the calculations and for the best ones it analyzes further as DrJones said. It works pretty well for chess so I don't see why it couldn't work for TASs if people are willing to spend the time working on making the bot better.

300? Wtf? *gets out calculator* Let's see, 4 buttons you have to worry about it, how long is it, 5 seconds or so? Dammit, quintillion is much too small. Ok, let's build a computer that's a google plex times faster than normal, that should do the trick! :) Edit: Oops, it's only 3 buttons you have to worry about since you're always pressing B. *presses some numbers on a calcultor* Still too much. :(

Who cares how many combinations there are? Let's just build a huge computer that's a quintillion times faster than a normal computer and it'll make all these problems insignificant!

I don't know what you people are talking about, it wasn't entertaining. If I want to see someone crashing and falling off the track, I can just do that without save states. If you want to see good Super Circuit vids, watch the vids at the link I posted. They're much better and as far as I know they were done without save states, so if you're gonna TAS that game then at least make it better than those vids.

I think if the AI is good enough it would be capable of making a better TAS than any human in any game. Just program in all the knowledge that a person has, and when you combined that with it going faster then it's a better TAS maker in every way. The only problem is that programming it well enough would be extremely hard.

I'm confused, what's the point of this TAS? After watching the first 3 races I decided it's an obvious no vote and I got very little entertainment from it. Edit: Btw I see people saying that Rainbow Road was good, I'm too lazy to watch that far, was it better than in the vid at the link I posted?

I haven't watched it yet so I don't know how good it is, though you might want to take a look at some of these vids to see if there are any tricks you didn't know about: http://www2.loops.jp/~neka/index.html

Well then it seems Bisqbot would help a lot in LoZ. There's luck in every single enemy room in LoZ for the directions that the enemies move in.

Sounds like a plan. The problem is, do we have experienced enough coders to make this work seamlessly? How would we distribute the rom legally? You don't need to distribute it, people already have it. Edit: And if you wouldn't know how to set it up, just ask those SETI people to help!

Are you proposing that we build a distributed grid of TAS machines? I like that idea. If that's the word for it then that's what I'm suggesting. My suggestion is that all of our computers work together on the same TAS. Btw here's a list of some addresses in LoZ, I'd assume this would be useful in programming Bisqbot to play LoZ: 0=don't have, 1=have or X=# of the item 0038: Time left until bomb explosion (0-1/X=explodes instantly/never 0070: Horizontal position on screen (lower/higher=more left/right on screen) 0084: Vertical position on screen (lower/higher=higher/lower on screen) 00BC: Explosion phase (0/1-15/18/19/32-255=no explosion/flames that only hurt you/repetitive explosions/nonstop explosions/flames 00EB: Location in overworld (0-15/16-31...=1st row of screens/2nd row...) 00FA: Buttons being pressed (0/1/2/4/8/16/32/64/128/various sums=none/right/left/down/up/start/select/B/A/various combinations, setting something to not being pressed is like autofire because it only sets it every other frame) 0305-030C and 0310-0317: Heart container appearance (0-9/10-35/36/101/102/242=numbers/letters/nothing/half full/empty/full, note that this only affects graphics, not the actual life you have left) 03CC: Candle speed/distance (0/32/145=endless still flame/normal/loops across screen many times) 0513: Blue candle flame (0/X=unlimited/none) 0523: Level whistle takes you to (X=X+1) (turn code on then off to warp to 1 higher or lower than that level) 052F: Progress in lost woods/hills (3=3 movements done already, just 1 left to finish the maze) 0657: Sword (1/2/3=normal/white/magical) 0658: Bombs 0659: Arrow (1/2=normal/silver) 065A: Bow 065B: Candle (1/2=blue/red) 065C: Whistle 065D: Bait 065E: Potion (1/2=blue/red) 065F: Magic Wand 0660: Raft 0661: Book of Magic 0662: Ring (1/2=blue/red) 0663: Ladder 0664: Magical Key 0665: Power Bracelet 066C: Stopwatch 066D: Rupee 066E: Key 066F: # of heart container and how many are full (17(X-1)-Y=X heart containers with X-Y full) 0670: Fullness of the last heart container (0/1-127/128-255=empty/half full/full) 0671: Triforce (0/X/255=none/various combinations/all) 0674: Boomerang 0675: Magical Boomerang 0676: Magical Shield

I'm guessing that the speed that bisqbot makes a TAS at depends on the speed of the computer and it tests out each button sequence at greater than 100% speed? Is there any way to somehow set it up so that 20 people can each run some program on their computer so that bisqbot can use all that processing power to progress through making the TAS 20 times as fast?

That would be something... maybe it would fit in the Hack category. :3
As exceptions, we allow these patches to be used: Super Mario Bros 2j - 24 stars: This patch sets the number of game completions to 24 in Super Mario Bros 2j. It allows accessing the hidden worlds without having to complete the game 8 times. This patch may only be used on the Famicom Disk System version of Super Mario Bros 2j.
