Holy crap! I can't believe this was reduced to under 6 minutes! It was a pain to get it working with Famtasia, but when I did.. woah! Now.. the one question that comes to mind though... Is the European version faster then the USA rom via timing issues? [Since it isn't a UE rom or such] and by that token, why not use FCEU since the Solstice [U] rom works flawlessly under it and it has the frame advance option? [Extreme tightness! [insert perverted reference here]] Not complaining though, because I voted yes. This was a phenomenal run! Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I thought twin galaxies' rules measured from start of character control (i.e. when Mario appears on stage 1-1) to end of character control (touching the axe)? That'd place the run at a more reasonable distance from the time attack.
Nope, the timer starts the instant the Start button is hit on the title screen and ends when the axe is touched. The main reason is, a long time ago, someone decided to be a wise ass and sit there for a short time, THEN begin moving, just so he could avoid fireworks... this though, was LONG before anyone thought SMB1 could be destroyed so quickly ^^ Mr. Kelly R. Well, finishing up my speed/minimalist completion guide for this game.. [Had meant to finish this a long time ago when I aided Walkerboh with watering can issue] and I'm coming across a few MINOR tweaks.. may add up to all of 2-3 seconds faster for the run... BUT... I also came across a curiously amusing little programming error. Now... I did this at normal speed, so please don't whine about how it could be optimized ^^ I decided to put it up here for those who wanted a chuckle. It's done via Blip's patched FCEU. http://ninja.ca/upload/Uninvited+(U)-Cage_Glitch.fcm I don't think they figured someone would try to put 2 animals into the 1 small cage. [At this point, I have already placed the bird in the cage as required] Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Just to try and keep up with the times, Trevor Seguin managed to nail a 5m9s run on his Console, and it does look to be that a 5m8s run is possible, but incredibly tricky to manage! 5m flat on an emu and 5m9s on a console... who'd have thunk this was possible a year ago. :) http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3721 This'd be the article prepared. It's also on the TG Main Page and should be in the RSS Feed. Oh, and wth that? Merry Christmas everyone :) Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I'm sorry to have to bump this old thread, but I wish to ensure I have the general grasp of everything for Strider. So far, the only 2 real glitches I've noted are the slide/launch warp through the screen glitch and the walk through spikes glitch... [which I'd like to know how it is achieved] Is there anything else at all or around this realm, or are those essentially the big ones? Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I think this would make a great Speedrun, but I doubt that saving all the neighbors in the game is possible.
Actually, it IS possible and someone's already submitted a record of it to Twin Galaxies [There was a cash bounty for this achievement]. Your point about the every 40k, though, does make the game a bit easier. And speed shoes are a DEFINITIVE must, especially, to begin with, Level 7. Well, a weedwhacker and Speed Shoes. I believe if mystery potions can be manipulated, that'd be cool. I'd say save monster potions for the bosses... the Titanic Toddler goes down reasonably fast to a beasties fury. Bazooka's backshoving could be used to blow away a hedge and bounce back to collect a victim? I know on the higher levels with Ants, it's a bitch to out manoeuver them normally. The one thing that's going to be the stinger is the Bonuses. I mean there's soooooooooo freaking many! That will slow down a potential run big time, even if you go out of your way to avoid them... but I see that as a welcome challenge and an easy way of determining who'd be faster. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

It is also worth note that I allowed my bottom fighter to die so that my bm could get to level 8 and actually use fast before I face Lich. He'll probably stay dead, because I'd rather have 2 fightres in a "high" level than 3 in a low one.
I dunno... I actually felt that letting him die was sloppy, even though I kow whatcha mean. But is there not a way to keep him alive and maybe negotiate a battle or 2 more with, say an Earth to make up for the time? I mean with 3 Fighters wailing... it could work. It might be also a bit off the beaten path as well, but Garland's cave does have those others swords and it might work out to your advantage later on, could it not? [Bane sword there, is there not..? Which might kill enemies via USE a LOT faster depending on luck manipulation.] Is there a way you can make some slight pauses on the overworld map so those "Forced to wait for the enemy to attack first" battles can't occur..? That takes up a decent chunk of time over a 1 second pause. Also another issue I have is letting the BM or other Fighters attack empty air. Is there no way around this issue.. or is it a must,so the luck manipulation can be worked out? Why are you also getting so much Gold? You never did indicate any kind of plan here, and though I can suspect it's for BM's spells... could you not get chests that are closer and sell those items... or is intentionally going a long way off the path to chests with Gold in them a lot quicker? Can you not co-ordinate a few more fights in the ocean to get some mad Gold due to luck maniulation to fight Kyzoku's or a few more battles normally with Gold giving beasties? Otherwise... this was a PHENOMENAL run. To be able to walk up to Astos THAT EARLY and BEAT HIM! [Those Criticals rocked!] ... Wow... if I could only pull that off on a console! I'm looking forward to seeing more, but just curious on those points. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

The jumping on the notes was done as fast as possible, if I released B 1 frame earlier then Mario wouldn't reach the next step. I guess not too many know about that nice shortcut (at least I didn't know about it until 2 days ago :O) Now on to Tubular :)
How're you able to pull off that twirl/flying jump? It almost looks like you still have flying animation enough and that's why a bounce/jump seems to send you soaring while twirling... it's really cool! And the shortcut... oy.. I wish I noticed that for my own run! [D'oh] Looks phenomenal mate! Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Oh yeah, just one thing.. in that list, the Vampire is only the instance of the mini-boss in the Earth Cave. Later on, you can run from the groups of Vampires that appear in the Mirage Tower. The ToFR-versions of the fiends should also be included in that list (or perhaps it's implied). :)
Hmm.. I should edit it then and add that notation. As for the fiends? It's implied :) Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

K, I was bored so I downloaded FFHackster and simply copied all the enemies that were flagged with "Can't Run" including monster combos that maybe flagged as that.... sooooooo to end curiousity, here it is. Wizard Earth Cerebus + WizOgre Fire FrGiant + FrWolf Zombull Phantom Water ZombieD Blue D Worm Gas D Eye Lich Kary Kraken Tiamat Chaos Vampire [Earth Cave only] Astos Pirate Garland That was in the order I found them in FFhackster. Hope this helps. [It's a neat utility btw, and some of the info may help more so then this] Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Well, I'm all for faster speed and such... but I dunno.. this movie has me undecided. I must agree with Bisqwit on the 1-1 pipe entry... it does look very sloppy, especially when all entries prior to this one enter the pipe in the bonus room SMOOTHLY. But that's not why I'm undecided. I'd like to know what the heck is up with the backwards jmping from the start of a level.. 1-1, 4-1, 4-2 warp area, 8-1... etc. Does it save frames, or is it just trying to be different? Nice to realize getting a firework doesn't affect timing though.. I always wondered. And 8-3 being completed a time unit faster was a shock. But if there was a way to manipulate luck and have the Hammer. Bros both stay on the bottom during the first parts of the level where they have those ledges, would it be faster by even a few frames to be able to zoom on the middle pathway unharmed both times as opposed to sticking it to the bottom? The other thing leaving me undecided has also been brought up in regards to the lack of the backwards jump in 8-4 to fly up to the higher pipe. If that's supposed to be faster.... COOL Backwards swimming though, I have to give props for that one. Once info is posted about the start the level with a backwards hop, I think I know how to vote then. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

Kay... you might REALLY not like this... ONLY IF it works to an advantage. I brought this up on the iRC Channel and BoltR realized where I was coming from and took it a step further and Bladegash brought up other thoughts pointing that the bars are randomly filled at the start of battle. If you had Terra in the proper position... sure.. it would save a second or two, BUT! Might it also help out against Whelk and possibly be the extra little bit to JUST BARELY eke in a Tek Missile for the kill before it goes into its shell? If this DOES manage to work out, then.. ^^;; Well at least it was figured out now as opposed to the WOR... if it won't help, my bad.

ALRIGHTEE! If the battle is on and there was a lot of sloppiness, shall we take some bets on how fast this NEW run will be? Remember though, no one predicted Arc coulda nailed his new Metroid run 41 seconds faster.. closest was what... 17? So keep in mind, this is gonna get groovy. :) I predict a final time of 4:56 myself. But this is essentially pushing everything beyond belief... I'm probably so off it isn't even funny, but then again... ;) I'm putting faith in this "TOP SECRET". Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I have no idea what in the world you're thinking, because we were just playing around and this topic didn't even exist last night. Besides, I think a Final Fantasy run would be too boring.
You should watch [scrolls down] "snaily"'s run. It's 3h+ long, but it IS interesting! Very well planned and executed very nicely. I'm sure someone could maybe get it to 3 hours with some better luck manipulation [if possible] and some tweaking here and there. And even if not, the game has massive appeal.
