We'll never stop breaking that game :D Door of Time Skip without sword: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNJRqrgt8ag ----> Kokiri Sword can be skipped completely.

I've got some interest in TASing this game. To get used to this game some momery addresses like speed and position would be really helpful. would you mind sharing those with me, mkdasher and ALAKTRON?

can you actually enter forest temple without clearing the twilight? if so, I'd investigate this possible sequence break a lot within the next few days.

Watching Parax's run reminded me how awesome TP actually is. I'm really interested in a TAS of this, I could actually imagine myself giving it a try. 2 things bothering me, thought: 1. 1/4 of the run is just collecting tears. What are the barriers for Faron and Eldin Twilight skips? A "Hyrule Castle Early" trick would skip none of the Twilight section, would it? That's why I somehow don't even want that trick to be discovered. The run would contain mostly only be collecting the tears. 2. A time of 2:40-2:30 should be possible using the power of TASing, but as Slowking said, it's 2,5 hours of pure gameplay. I can't think of any run on this site, that has this much pure gameplay in it. Other than that, can Dolphin actually reset while TASing? This is essential for the "Back in Time" glitch and without it, I wouldn't be really keen on TASing it anymore. And if it has the reset option, does it actually work well? Majora's Mask still can't handle resets, it ends in a chaos of weird desynchs. That's why I somehow have some doubts, that dolphin can handle resets well. Are there actually any realistic breaks left to discover at the moment? From what I have heard, TP is programmed in a pretty shitty way, that prevents many Sequence Breaks from being possible.

[23:49] <sonicpacker> I don't think Sonikkustar's vote on the 0 star should count...as in the 7 he gave it for entertainment. It was only because he doesn't like me. He gave the old 0 star a 9 in that category and the runs are almost identical. [23:50] <sonicpacker> Also, when will it be given its star back? [23:53] <sonicpacker> And this: [23:53] <sonicpacker> "This movie is 40 frames faster than the previous movie due to a new route and extreme optimization, explained in the submission message." [23:53] <sonicpacker> is false.
sonnikkustar's vote should be treated the same way as all of the other votes. entertainment ratings are usually pretty subjective. a huge mario fan tends to enjoy a SM64 way more than let's say a metroid fan. it's just not possible for everybody to feel the same about every run. giving a low rating to the technical quality would be a different story, though. btw, I think sonikkustar also gave the Majora's Mask TAS a 7 or something, maybe he simply isn't a fan of N64 games.

This is the most brilliant thing I've ever seen. Mugg, you said, that you think there might be a quicker way through the OoB area. Would you mind giving me some useful bytes for this game and the position of the gliched block in the OoB area? I feel like messing around with it a bit.

There's exactly one hover and that one is done as child link in the spirit temple to skip past the silver block and reach the adult side. The whole purpose of this is to skip the deku stick completely, which is needed in the child side. Shadow Temple would be done without the BK skip as well due to mupen being not able to handle bombchus in voids.

sry, for double post. I've just thought about doing a low% TAS. The definition of such a category is beating Ganon with the lowest amount of items in your inventory possible. it would be very different from both the MST category and any% category. Most people actually think, that low% would be very similar to the any% category, because it seems obvious, that using RBA to skip the whole adult part is the best choice. Fortunately, it isn't due to RBA giving you many items, you don't even need. Just a rough explanation of the route: - I'd go to the spirit temple as child to obtain the Mirror Shield in order to skip the Hylian Shield. Mirror Shield is needed no matter what to beat Twinrova. - Bombs are skipped and everything is done with a huge amount of bombchus, which are refilled with RBA using a small Poe as the C-right item. - Both Spirit and Shadow Temple are cleared without the Hookshot and Hover Boots. - As I want to skip the Requiem of Spirit, I'd have to go through the desert twice. - Thanks to having a lot of Bombchus I'd be sliding almost everywhere. So my question is if there's actually any interest in such a run and most importantly would tasvideos accept this as the 4th category (3rd is 100%, which will never be done) for this game?

I've restarted the TAS competition: http://forums.zeldaspeedruns.com/index.php?topic=862.msg13805#msg13805 Quite a few non-TAS speed runners plan to submit a TAS for this task and swordless link also said he'd take part, so there's really much competition this time. Would be cool if some more people would show interest in this, especially because this task offers a lot space to create a crazy route. No need to be experienced in OoT TASing or TASing in general, it's just for fun ;)

wow, nice improvement. No need to say, what I will vote. I happen to have had the same idea a few weeks back, but due to not having much experience in sm64 TASing I wasn't able to pull it off. I planned to do it slightly differently, though. I executed a BLJ using the spot shown here: Afterwards my goal was to grab the pole and get forward speed. Sadly, I've never got that far because I always lost the speed when I grabbed the pole. Using the forwards speed I would have jumped up to the elevator and then did the wallkicks the same way you guys did it. This is just a theory, no idea if it really can work. I decided to share it, because I could never pull it off any way ;) btw, sry for the big picture.
Trust me, I tried this to no end, but it doesn't save any time. Maybe today I'll upload all of my alternate BitFS route ideas, they really are quite interesting. :)
yeah, would be cool to see those. 2 question about my idea: - is there any special input for keeping the speed when grabbing the pole? - In all of my attempts the highest speed allowing me to grab it was 160 or something like that. mario just moved through the pole whenever I had more speed. so is there any trick to grab the pole using higher speed? best way to answer both question would probably be to give me a m64 in which somebody does a similar trick, using a tree for example. I'd really like to learn a bit more about sm64, so I can test the ideas that sometimes come to my mind myself.

Last missing Boss Key Skip finally in town: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89jL9HOLqwg&lc=V_W5TIQonOnlfUTVLIxdVbkUhD8nMLV-KuVNKKyLC2s&feature=inbox should save roughly 1 minute and 45 seconds of bloob's TAS.

We had a little discussion on the irc and we got it down to those 2 screenshots. Can you guys tell me, which one's the better choice in your opinion?

I have to admit I'm too lazy to go through the whole TAS again to take screenshots, so here are yet again the one I've posted a few pages early already: http://www.4shared.com/file/L7uQgO63/Majoras_Mask_Screenshots.html Slowking's last screenshot could also be used. Alternatively we could consider using one that shows link being happy about buying the bomb bag, because almost everything I do in this run is based on this item.

I'll change that tomorrow. I will also take a few more screenshots and post them here. Then we can decide which one's the best.

Look at some of the previous posts, where I uploaded a few suggestions already. maybe you like some of them. Unloaded Fairy Fountain sounds cool actually. I also suggested one of the GBT BK skip but it seemed as if everybody prefered other ones over it.

this gets a pretty strong yes vote from me. if many people want to see a 100% run, why not publish the any% of the hack as well? The bowser levels were really interesting to see being destroyed to pieces, especially the second one.

he is doing all the other nescassary encodes for tasvideos at the moment, too. we also need a screenshot for publication, so we should really decide which one to use within the next days.

swinging the sword before every ISG is way too annoying. I guess it only applies to hovering against walls, but it still makes all hover set ups look pretty unoptimized. I'm not going to do a new TAS of this game any way, so if someone ever decides to improve this he had to make the decision about the version himself.

Do you Know where to find the Zelda irc? I'm pretty often there. (Not at the moment, though. I have a lot of school stuff to do) A HD encode for youtube would be nice. A bunch of people on tasvideos are dying to finally see the TAS. Can't write too much right now, it's too annoying to write with an IPod.
