Yes it does. If the slope isn't steep enough to catch Mario while at the top of his BLJ nothing will happen.

Finally got around to watching this. It didn't lag at all for me and it was definitely inhuman as I didn't have a clue what was going on. I liked it, however, you say you know of 30-40 seconds of improvement already? Would it not be better to redo? It's the only thing that is stopping me from voting at the moment. Will you be making another version?

Agreed, that was simply fantastic :) I really can't wait for this one.

Okay, so forward to the next WIP. There are a few things that I still don't quite get -- 1) In my route Petrie says I have to do a 5 bomb bomb hover in Pirates Fortress, but doesn't specify where. 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PBupZfByJA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5p73tR2CRYw Is this how I'm getting to Snowhead? 3) Finally, I still didn't pick up magic so should I superslide to Great Bay?

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3868/Copy%20%283%29%20of%20ZELDA%20MAJORA%27S%20MASK.m64 Here is the latest WIP. I'm now back in Clock Town and I've got the bow etc. I'm pretty sure this is as good as it can get and after 18 desyncs since my last WIP redoing doesn't really interest me (unless, of course, I've really messed up). Anyway, I won't be starting my next segment (up to Snowhead) until Saturday, which gives plenty time for you all to look at this. I'll leave the encode to bkDJ this time ;)

Hmm...of course, it is your decision Primo. However, the programmer certificate is underwhelming. Also, I just think the run will feel incomplete if you only have 4 or 5 badges. Finally, it surely couldn't be an hour longer? You'd have high level pokemon by then which would waste the elite four (that is if you are going past Cinnabar). Just thought I'd throw that out there. I'll look foward to this whatever you decide to do ;)

I decided to manipulate a stick as it is much faster. Also, I've gotten pretty far and I'm just about to start bomb hovering. Right now I'm away out to get drunk etc. but when I return I'll stay up all night if need be to get this WIP done. I'll post when I get back to Clock Town (btw I'm not insane, if I don't do it tonight it won't be until Saturday at the earliest due to other commitments).

That's what I thought originally, but I don't think it offers the same closure. It would be as if FODA had ended his SM64 input after speaking to Yoshi on the roof instead of beating the game. I think it should be after beating te elite four because Oak's rating could be used as the closure on the run.

I'm really looking forward to this. It is a very clever run. I hope you get the rest of the route specified soon and also, when are you planing to end input? I suppose it could be when you catch the 151st or when you beat the elite four. I'd go for the latter personally, but it is your choice.

I used to play this all the time when I was younger, however, I am sceptical as to how good a movie it would make. You'd best make a test run first before committing yourself to it.

Vatchern's main goal here was entertainment. He made a faster, more up-to-date run that beats a famtasia run, but it doesn't quite do the business in the entertainment area (well, not as much as Sleepz run does). If the tag was 'aims for fastest time' I'd vote Yes, but to me this has to go down as not sticking to his predefined goals. It's still quite a nice movie though, so I won't vote yet, maybe later if I can come to more of a decision. EDIT -- Wow, 500 posts as well...now I can wear my vest around the forums ;)

The AVI appeared fine to me. The run itself; good run and all that, but certainly improveable. I think that whoever runs this next should really go for perfection so that it isn't beaten by three seconds two weeks after submission.

Coolness. I'll redo then. The time saved by manipulating the nuts and sticks is pretty small anyway. Also, through rewatching Guano's OoT run, he uses nuts rather often to good effect. It could be handy to keep a few.

Once upon a time Vidar was running this but it seems stalled at the moment. Also, there is a small tag at the top of each post you make labelled 'Edit'. If you use it you can add your new content to a previous post rather than filling the forum with a string of shit ;)

How many deku nuts will I need throughout the run? I have one in my route. I get 10 from the pot and 1 stick from the pot, however, I can luck manipulate 1 nut and 1 stick from the scrubs in this area which would be much faster. I really had hoped to get the next WIP up this weekend, but I was called into work yesterday, today and tommorrow which has seriously messed with my plans. I'll post a WIP when I get back to Clock Town (the 25% mark, I'd say), which should hopefully be soon.

I agree. Also, Primo, can you post a link to the route?

Interesting idea comicalflop. Of course, I'll help you on your quest as I'm pretty good with the Mupen. However, in your introduction you imply that desync is caused entirely by the expansion pack. I don't disagree with this, but it is unproven. Also, you have a large list of ROMs there that isn't really doing anything and you haven't made it clear what is meant to be done. You do say, yes these ROMs will be tested, but elaborate. How thoroughly? Every plugin combination? How many levels? Also, what information do we provide on the TASability of the ROM? From my own experience I can tell you this; Gex 64: Enter the Gecko, a joy to TAS, no problems whatsoever, can a TAS of this game be completed? Yes. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask; a living nightmare to TAS, this ROM spews desyncs all over your movie, can a TAS of this game be completed? Yes (probably). Those are two examples of games that can be TASed, but just saying that they are playable gives a misleading impression of the desync situation etc.

Well the desyncs didn't really kick in until I got to the scarecrow and those Deku Flowers were before then. I have two flowers left in this area, three or so in the next and two in the temple. Then I'll have more when I return to the temple later in the run. Other than that it should be clear and easy from here on :) <<(naiveity)

Whew, I think I've solved this particular desync. Now on to the next Deku Flower *shudders*

Another update -- At the moment I'm still getting absolutely nowhere. 13 desyncs and somewhere between 5000 and 10000 rerecords of fixing on a single frame of input that just refuses to stay in sync. I hope for the life of me that this is not a dead-end and that it is possible to pass. My normal methods of desync fixing have all failed and I have resorted entirely to hex editing, which so far is unsuccessful. As you know I am entirely committed to finishing this run as long as it is possible, but what is happening at the moment seems to be outwith my control. I'll battle it out for a few more days before evaluating whether a TAS of this game is even possible to finish.

I've stumbled across a new glitch for the first star in Hazy Maze cave. I did this at 100% on my emulator so I'm sure it could perhaps be a few seconds faster than the route in the current 120 star. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZTc9O9-n9E

I still think both Raticate and Snorlax is a bad idea. Could it not be faster to glitch a high level Gyrados and delete dragon rage for surf. That'd get you through the rest of the game pretty quickly.

Desync could to do with how the Mupen reads the input. You may notice that when you frame advance in some games the counter my jump by two eg. from frame 1001 to frame 1003. This would be because this particular game works at 30FPS and the graphics only refresh every two frames. Also, because of this, when input is entered it will only register one set of input per input frame ie. each set of two. Other games (like Majora's Mask) work a little differently. MM works at 20FPS, however, if you were to frame advance on frame 1000 you would go 1000, 1001,1002, 1003 then graphics refreshment. That is just the way that the Mupen reads this particular game. For each of these three frames only one will be read as input and the others will not and if your input falls onto one of these 'dead' frames the movie will desync. That is the new theory anyway...

If you are planning to watch the movie only open in read-only mode, otherwise you will just be resuming recording.

Just thought I'd throw my yes vote in there. Strangely, I know every Metroid pretty well except this one so I found it difficult to appreciate to the level you guys did, however, I know a well made movie when I see it. Voting yes because - - No obvious errors. - Entertaining run (although I still prefer the 100%, but that's just me).
