A quick update since I haven't posted for a while. I've done the Skull Kid cutscene skip in 9 bombchus. I really really tried, but I just couldn't get it in 8 and after the 6th desync I decided just to let it go and move on. I'm now making my way into the woods of mystery, but Goron rolling is causing annoying desync problems too (eg. bouncing of walls etc). Also, there are even more desync problems as my Luck Manipulation regularly falls out of sync (Magic Pots not being manipulated where they should be etc.) which will definitely cause problems in future. I'll try and get to Deku Palace today and into Woodfall Temple tomorrow and if all goes to schedule I could be in Great Bay by the end of the week (this is all desync dependant of course). Will post a WIP tomorrow hopefully.

This definitely seems like a better option than a 70 star run. This segment here, however, didn't allow you to deviate much from FODA's strategy (other than in the last star). Hopefully this will change and it should be worth looking forward to.

You do seem to be using the plugin correctly, just not very well. Post up your own progress so we can compare it to nfq's. We may be able to see what you are doing wrong. Failing that you could just buy a controller :) Whether or not you make TASes is irrelevant as they are excellent for anyone interested in emulation. They are inexpensive too. Mines was about £6 (about $11 - 12 approx). Sorry I can't give you more better prices; I thought I knew where you came from, but you seem to have already moved...

Yes, that should do it. But your second movie has to record from snapshot or the emulator will reset.

Just pause it on the frame you want to begin recording on then start recording the movie. That's all it means by snapshot.

What input plugin are you using? Also, it sounds like you need to gain more knowledge of the game before diving in. Watch whatever videos etc. you can find and really learn how the game works.

Have you unchecked the 'raw data' option in the input menu? That sounds like the kind of problem that causes.

Chamale, where are you in this run? You said you were going to post a WIP, but never did. What I'm more concerned about is the fact that you have said that your run is identical to Primo's, which has mistakes. Could I take a look at your WIP, please? Just to see if you're on the right track.

Nope, it does. In the window for recording a new movie there is the option to either record from power on or from snapshot.

I'd definitely like to see a run of this game. Good luck and i'll offer whatever assistance I can. Use a ROM that looks something like this (important parts in bold): Paper Mario (U) [!].

You mean you want to make two different movies? One as young link and another as Adult? You would start recording your first movie from 'power-on'. When you reach such a point as you want to start your second movie you need to stop recording, save state (for good measure), record new movie and then record from snapshot.

I'll watch this. Will comment here afterwards. EDIT -- ...well...it seemed very well optimised and planned, i'll give you that, well done! The game, however, is pretty unimpressive. The colours were pleasing and the music wasn't painful, but the concept was very basic. I read your submission text and you described it as being "based on the premise of rock-paper-scissors", which connotates boredom in my mind and I prepared myself for a boring movie. I can say that this wasn't as boring as I thought it would be, however, the game is far too long to stay entertaining. I want to vote yes because the movie is well done, but it doesn't make a good TAS. In short -- + Very well run. Pretty game. - Too long for its concept. Monotonous. Bad game for TASing. I hope you do make more movies and I really look forward to them. Why don't you take a look in the FAQ at the 'List of Ideas' for some better titles? Voting No.

I bet a bot could make a perfect run of mario 1, because it is never necessary to get powerups, which I think a computer might not be able to handle... the bot could hold -> and B, jumping to avoid stuff of when the speed value maxes out.
This wouldn't be a problem to a bot. It is a computer program and has no idea that there are things to avoid. Keep in mind that I have never looked at the Bisqbot source code, but I imagine that it would be coded to loop the specific section using every possible combination of input until a certain condition is fulfilled (having said that, I doubt it's that simple and my programming is basic).

I'd also like to see perfect runs of the Pokemon series.
In my opinion this would be the most difficult game to get frame perfect and we will never see it done. The outcome of the luck manipulation is a max crit. and an enemy miss. This is manipulated by selecting the move and clearing the dialog box on a specific frame. Frame perfection would have these outcomes on the earliest possible frame (i.e. the first) on every single battle. This would be outrageously difficult to manipulate and so each obsoletion of a Pokemon moive will eventually just be only through better luck manipulation (since small variation alter the entire way luck is manipulated in future).

Yes, just because something works with one game in no way means it will work with another. Also, you never said which plugins you were using...Use the same ones as Guanobowl.

Right. That means I have to totally change my angles. I won't really be able to work much on the run until Wednesday (exam season), but then I have 5 full (and at present) free days. I'll post a WIP when I get into Woodfall Temple which should be by the end of next week. Also, in Deku Palace I imagine that I am to skip the beans and just hover up to that ledge, however, in my route it says that I have one 'bomb boost' in which to do it. Imo, if my memory serves me correctly, this sounds unlikely. Does anyone have a youtube link? Just incase I'm getting the wrong idea (I assume it's drop bomb, infinite sword, backflip, bomb explodes, hover, backflip, bombchu, hover, backflip, ledge). Anyway, until next week...

I managed to skip the Skull Kid cut scene in 10 bombchus. I started at the latest possible time and kept as close to the loading point as possible. Can it be done with fewer? I'll load up an AVI soon of that small segment soon so that you all can pick at it :) EDIT -- Here's a quick AVI. It desyncs unfortunately, but it shows the hieght and distance etc. which is what I need commented on if I am able to use less bombs. http://files.filefront.com//;6552011;;/

I watched this and am voting yes. I cant see how it can be made faster (route-wise) and I'm looking forward to more improvement. Also, AKA, you mentioned the termination bug. You can get rid of it by hex editing in the last few frames of input (from wherever it would cut off) As Nitsuja explains here

I sidehopped instead of supersliding because you can't superslide on ice and backwalking makes Link slide about near the beginning wasting time. In the graveyard and outside it rolling turned out to be faster (about 35 frames faster outside and about 5 frames inside). Backwalking would have been slower becasuse time is wasted turning to set it up and then turning back to face Darmani (you have to have the lens of truth on him for 12 frames before he will react to the song of healing)/. BoMF -- Yup, you have to wait for him to sit down.

I guess that you stopped when talking to the bomb shop man. That is a longer text box because I have to wait for him to sit down on the counter. If you got to Termina then that's great. It means that everything's working fine. I'll progress tomorrow :)

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3448/ZELDA%20MAJORA%27S%20MASK.m64 This is up until leaving Clock Town. I'm sure I did this as well as it can be done and after so many more desyncs I don't really fancy doing it again. I followed Petrie's route and for the scarecrow song I chose to (attempt) to play the Scottish national anthem. Not that I'm even slightly patriotic at all, I just thought it'd be cool to have a little bit of the author in there. Anyway, as always, get back to me :)

Problem -- Every so often when I go to 'start movie playback' I get an error message saying: 'There was a problem with emulation. Close and reopen the emulator or you may encounter serious errors' (or something to that effect). This message would be shortly followed by a message reading 'InitiateGFX called without CloseDLL'. Now I get this everytime I playback my movie. I can every so often just power through and watch it, but it is slower than normal even at 1000%. Effectively, I could just continue making the moive, but I'd hate to do it knowing that there is a problem. Any suggestions?

I'll check that. I never had a chance to look at it before posting it up here and it had never desynced before so I assumed all would be fine. EDIT -- Fixed http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3424/ZELDA%20MAJORA%27S%20MASK.m64 Going to bed now...

Right. OK. Zora's Mask? My route is ancient then. It has me going to woodfall next... Where is the most recent version of Petrie's route? EDIT -- Here is what I am working from. https://webfiles.berkeley.edu/DK64_MASTER/shared/MM.rtf

That's the first two cycles absolutely done. Finished. Done. Over. I'm happy to start the third cycle now. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3417/ZELDA%20MAJORA%27S%20MASK.m64 I'm about 13 seconds faster than my previous attempt, which is much more than I thought I would get. So I'm guessing that this section of the run is about as awesome as it's ever going to be. EDIT -- Also, this is what I have for the Clock Town Section at the start of the third cycle (What I am doing next). Clocktown/3rd cycle - ECT chest (99) -- Same chest as last time. - Deposit (bank: 247), get adult wallet - Withdraw 200, buy 20 bombchus & 20 bombs (-140, you: 60, bank: 47) - Scarecrow song -- I'll have a think about this. I've got a few ideas... - Leave via South Clock Town towards Southern Swamp. Is this right, yeah?
