Here is the next part of the run. AVI .M64 Alas, this is the penultimate part of the run. Next step is the submission. Not long now...

I actually only watched the run for the first time yesterday. I wanted to post a little congrats to JXQ but didn't want to commit the sin of reviving an old topic. Ironically, Angerfist took care of this the very next day. I would just like to say that i thoroughly enjoyed this run. I was skeptical at first as to whether a 01:13:10 run of a game i have never played (yet i have played the others) could hold my attention for so long. I was most pleasantly surprised as most unfamiliar runs bore me rather quickly. To sum up; brilliant work JXQ :)

I disagree. A 70-star run would involve a different route and that alone would be interesting to see, although the routes in-level would probably be exactly the same...

I have to agree with fractalfusion. Anyone making this kind of mistake clearly has no idea what they are doing and so being snappy and rude doesn't really help anyone. I'm not just commenting on Sir VG, in fact, he's not so bad, but some posters can be very pompous and arrogant where it is unneccessary.

I don't see why this should be a concept demo. It is a full, non-hacked game played as fast as we currently know and so should be published accordingly. EDIT -- I hope this doesn't revive the whole 'King's Bounty' arguements. EDIT 2 - And in said arguement my opinion was the same :)

Exactly, a game played like this would only be fit as a concept demo, even then it would still be about an 01:25:00 (possibly, if really abused) and hence too long for anyone to be bothered watching out of interest.

I've had this thought. The VBA rerecording doesn't have a recordable link feature. I first of all thought to trade pokemon with HMs to skip massive portions of the game, but you can't trade a pokemon with cut (there is some stipulation i cant quite recall) so i remember, i'm not sure about the others. I also thought to trade over an immensley high level pokemon to blast through the game, but then again ^^^ no recordable link function. If it was possible perhaps a high level pokemon with all HMs bar flash learned could be traded; there must be a point in the game where cut becomes allowed and if the rule is not the same for fly, surf and strength then a lot could potentially be skipped.

I never expected to do this this quickly but everything has sort of been going my way the last two days. This is WIP number 5; what i've done here has been done so much faster than i anticipated. I've managed to get 21 out of 33 remotes before the half-hour mark. This makes for an extremely high quality run in my opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfjexzQ5TtU

Exactly, that's just common sense, but this isn't emulated, some players are just really really good :)

I really don't know. I feel i shouldn't rush myself, although if i can keep a good momentum a couple of weeks. I am about half-way and i only started my final run two weeks ago so progress is good.

I think I will vote no. Imo, this run looks like a test run aimed for testing those bots and tools.
Even still, so does the original. If this is rejected then the poorer quality movie stays up.

This is good; i've been hoping to see Morimoto's run replaced because by the site's current standards that run is not worthy of a star. It misses shots and is generally boring. This is very much different and improved. Excellent.

im reckoning at the moment i have 18 more remotes to get. Now i have 15 at 22 minutes. I would really like to pull a sub one hour run but as the levels get more complex this might be difficult. My testing suggested about 01:10:00 but i am making gigantic improvements so this may be possible. I hope i do get sub one hour as that would be a phenomenal time for this game.

I wonder how many movies are actually perfect. There can't be more that 6 or 7. Although there is a lot that can't be improved by more than two seconds. Please don't mention the SMB1 movie as being perfect, then again I doubt the small number of perfect runs to watch are actually the best to watch.
I guess we'll never know, or could we? Is there any way we can really sit back and say, "there is not one single frame in that movie that can be improved, it is perfect."

I think more than one TAS is a good idea for the same reason as why you have more than one friend. If one pisses you off or annoys you there is always another to go and play with :)

I think you can also duplicate multiple items by using select to move items in and out of sixth position immeadiately after the missingno battle. It's been about 6 years since i last tried though, so it will need testing.

> As in watching someones previous TAS on a secondary monitor? Although it was a misunderstanding the thought of watching a new run whilst also comparing it to the movie it obsoleted in AVI format would be cool, if that's what you meant, unless i have misunderstood.

Great stuff here comicalflop. It's taken me a while to get around to it but i finally watched this and enjoyed it greatly. Definite yes vote. The 'yes' votes here are overwhelming, this should be obvious for publication, you shouldn't worry. Don't lose sleep over it, you did amazingly and we can all see that.

If Phil has beaten his movie then why is it not published?

personally i see no better option than a glitched gyarados. I only think it loses time towards the end of the game when its speed means it always gets second turn. If it could be first then a lot of time could be saved...
