It will take 3 (2½, but we cannot stop mid-game) play-throughs to collect every single item unless a glitch is found that allows the collection of movie reels that cancel each other out in the same play-through. While a 100% could be fun in theory, I wonder how many are prepared to sit through a TAS that beats a game 3 times for the sake of getting 100% completion.
Hence, why I suggested three different routes. Besides, Super Metroid has four different runs published on this site.

Like in Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie, you have to collect a certain number of special items (albeit, on a much smaller scale) in order to unlock more areas and advance.
Ultimately, fifteen Power Sparks are needed to progress through and complete the game. Forty-two are available in total. Some can be found out in the open, a few can be bought, while others are rewards for quests. For further details: http://epicmickey.wikia.com/wiki/Power_Sparks

There are several points that affect the ending in this game:
*Giving the ship's log to either Gremlin Bennet or Gremlin Shaky.
*Using paint or thinner to redeem or defeat the Clock Tower.
*Freeing the Sprite or destroying Hook.
*Using paint or thinner to redeem or defeat Petetronic.
*Choosing whether or not to help Horace with his cases.
*Choosing whether or not to find and return Animatronic Daisy's parts.
*Choosing whether or not to find and return Animatronic Goofy's parts.
*Choosing whether or not to find and return Animatronic Donald's parts.
Note that it's possible to have a combination of good and bad events in the ending so it might be worthwhile to pursue three possible paths: Hero (good, possibly slow), Scrapper (bad, possibly medium) and Wastelander (neutral, possibly fast).

Apparently, in the New Game +, cutscenes can be skipped. Hypothetically, would a run that uses the New Game + simply to skip cutscenes be accepted?

An intriguingly nostalgic yet somewhat dark Disney themed action-adventure game.
There are oftentimes points where deciding whether to use Paint or Thinner will have an effect on the game. For example, utilizing Paint or Thinner to defeat a boss will increase Paint or Thinner capacity respectively.
There are many optional quests in the game; perhaps completing a few of them will help make the TAS faster. Many of the essential quests have more than one way of completing them too. The trick is figuring out which choices will ultimately make a faster run.
Sometimes, you will need a certain amount of Power Sparks in order to proceed. Which quests will give you more Power Sparks more quickly is the key.

I'm considering going back and doing my All Emeralds run again. I would like to re-pickup my old input (with some tweaks, as I know I can do faster than the version posted here). I'm considering the following goals;
Priority: Obtain Super Sonic as soon as possible.
No damage.
1 Player controls 2 Characters.
Hooray for all the Emeralds!

What if a Dreamcast run was doable? Would it then take precedence over this run?
If this is done without a memory card, how come the game doesn't lose your progress when you softly reset?

I would say that the GC Version of SA2 is preferred since the black market is already built into the game instead of it being online only for the DC version.
About the WIP:

The Hunting stage got p3nd SO hard.
