I wonder if a glitchless run would be different enough to warrant being published in a separate category.

Thank you for making this run, p4wn3r. I've been speculating for a new run ever since the ZZAZZ glitch was brought up. I said on IRC that I had a couple questions, but I think they are all sorted out. sgrunt: These are the common categories for GB Pokemon as I see it:
  • Normal (US version) --- without save-corruption, using the ZZAZZ glitch
  • Normal (JP version) --- without save-corruption, using the Doko Kashira Door glitch
  • Save-corruption --- resetting during saving is allowed
  • 151 Pokemon --- the 100% run
  • glitchless --- A glitchless category, which wasn't considered yet
In my opinion, these are all valid categories. Arguably, you could cut the Normal US version run since we have the JP run, but the majority of viewers played the US version and so it was always considered to be a 'less glitchy' run. Over time, the US category became glitchier and glitchier and now we have the ZZAZZ run. If there was the possibility to glitch through the game on the US version without save-corruption within 10 minutes, it would be completely justified to cut either the JP or the US run (in my opinion) but as things are now, I can't make a decision myself. Personally, I've never been a fan of category limits if the given categories are all valid and non-arbitrarily executed. Once again I want to bring up the idea of restructuring the site. Every game should have its own page and all the TASes for it should be listed on that page. Right now, the only link between movies for the same game lies in the entry history on each movie's page. It's very chaotic if you ask me... Having pages for each game could get rid of a lot of problems (for example, having a category limit. If there'd be a page for each game, viewers could inform themselves of all the runs that were made and choose for themselves what to watch) and improve organization. Sadly, this suggestion only gets responses like "it's too much work / time-consuming" everytime I bring it up. Off-topic: [362] SNES Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (USA v1.0) by spezzafer in 1:38:56.6 [1314] SNES Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (USA v1.0) "glitched" by NxCy in 06:08.02 This still hasn't been fixed... Game name should be the same for both runs so that they both appear in each movie's entry history.
I would pay big money to see a 151 run and/or a glitchless run.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk8zCDZKBP4 This is the last 15 minutes or so of a TAS which uses tweaking to glitch to the end. I ripped it from nicovideo after learning about it from http://saisokugame.blog75.fc2.com/ . There are a lot of TASes there, some which come from this site. Anyway, I'll summarize what happened. After getting the bike in Eterna City, this TASer went back to Jubilife, set teleport point by PC, then tweaked into the void to go to Mystery Zone, where he caught a L55 Rhydon. After teleporting out, he tweaked again to go to Celestic Town cave to get Surf. Then teleport again, but this time go without tweaking to Hearthome City, beat Fantina to activate Surf, then leave, teleport, and tweak again, this time to Pokemon League. He then beats rival, enters, uses Rhydon to do the surf glitch, then glitches to the end. (Surf glitch is J version only) I don't think others would be interested in seeing the first two parts of the run, so I'll just list notable things: -This TASer uses Piplup, catches Bidoof early, and Abra a bit later. -He gets Quick Claw in one of the houses in Jubilife. I can't believe I missed that. -He sets Journal to Select, to manipulate away random encounters. -Against Rival 1: Uses two crit Pound on Starly, three crit Pound on Turtwig. -Against Roark: Geodude and Onix fall to crit Bubble, against Cranidos, Piplup uses Bubble (noncrit), Cranidos uses Leer, Cranidos uses Headbutt, Piplup uses crit Bubble (Torrent activate). -Against Galactic Double: Lucas's Chimchar uses Ember on Wurmple and Piplup uses crit Bubble on Zubat. -Gets TM88 (Pluck) at Floarama Town -Against Mars: Starts out with Potion. Then Bubble and crit Pluck on Zubat. Three crit Pluck on Purugly while it uses Faint Attack. -Piplup evolves and learns Metal Claw -Against Youta & Kanako (Eterna Forest): Prinplup's Metal Claw and Chansey's Tackle take out Wurmple Pachirisu used Bide here, Metal Claw takes out Beautifly, Tackle and Metal Claw take out Pachirisu while biding Pluck on Cascoon -Against Yoriko and Akifumi (Eterna Forest): Pluck on one Abra, Tackle on other. -Against Galactic Double: Metal Claw Wurmple, Zubat kills Bidoof with Bite, Pluck Cascoon, Zubat eats Abra, crit Pound Zubat, Metal Claw Glameow -Against Jupiter: Crit Pluck Zubat, noncrit/crit Metal Claw on Skuntank and the rest is in the summary above. You don't need to know what happens to Fantina and Rival because Rhydon kills them all.
Post the first two parts of this run...please?

Not of very good quality. I can understand firing the punch earlier as the small amount of damage was all that was needed to finish off the Blooper statue. But there were a few times where the author took damage when there was no need to.

It almost boggles the mind that this game was released as it was. May someone please do a glitchless run now? I want to see Jessie and James' butts kicked on the small screen (Game Boy) instead of the medium screen (TV) and big screen (movie) for once.

mmarks, I'm really looking forward the finished product. Just be sure to make the Special Stages as entertaining as possible. Too bad you'll not be able to complete the Moon-zone, as this requires beforehand the game to be beaten by all four characters IIRC. On a side note, I don't really like this game to be discussed in the same topic than Sonic Advance 2. Maybe someone should create another topic as well?
Yes and some of the Special Stages Springs are hard to reach with certain characters (though usually not impossible).

Should I later on make a Playaround version? :3
Here's an idea for a playaround; the people behind Nintendo Power once recreated video game protagonists in this game by inputting Solid Snake, Heroic Plumber and Blue Speedy Hedgehog (I forget the other adjectives and nouns). Try what they did, only with objects, bad guys and the like. Hmm... Yellow Electric Mouse.

What does Dreamcast have to do with Sonic 4 is beyond me.
N. Harmonik mentioned how he can hardly await a Dreamcast Emulator. I was commenting on that.
I'm female. And back to Sonic 4, even if emulators for the other systems this game is on could work, the Wii version has one advantage when it comes to speed; you don't get interrupted by notifications of Achievements/Trophies.

Yep, those non-chaos-emerald-collecting runs sure are keeping you from finding the runs that get all the emeralds! Yup yup yup. (Maybe if the bonus stages weren't so dull and the requirement to actually use Super Sonic meant he wasn't useful because of route deviations, there'd be more use of him e.g. in Sonic 2)
*sigh* I meant that, in comparison to the amount of TAS-ed Sonic runs on this site, too few of them are 100%. *grumbles about own species* I can hardly await the day a Dreamcast emulator that TASes can be made on comes along...

Yes, I know, but there're too many Sonic runs that don't collect all the Chaos Emeralds.

Since no other system's emulator is as close to completion, the Wii version seems to be the choice for the time being. For once, may we please have a run that collects all of the Chaos Emeralds? Let's see, 50 Rings to make a giant Ring appear at the end of the level to jump into... Say, when all the episodes are released, should they all be done in one playthrough, like with Sonic 3 & Knuckles? Oh marzojr...Upthorn...Nitsuja...!

I think the best stipulations for a low-glitch run would be...
  • Does not use horizontal underflow
  • Does not use any form of wall zipping
This leaves plenty of room for both showing off the levels, and for time-saving with minor glitches. As for this run, I've been following the WIPs since I got my computer back in September, and I am DAMN impressed. Yes vote for sure.
Would we actually see the proper boss for Sonic & Tails in the Marble Garden Zone then?

To quote GameFaqs: Hard Mode You need to have a ''Clear Data'' file and an empty file. Select ''New Game'' and after you transfer data or choose not to, then it will ask you if you want to play ''Easy Mode''. Select the ''No'' option and it will ask if you want to play ''Hard Mode''. Select ''Yes''. Hard Mode is like Regular mode except all enemies are a lot stronger. Higher difficulties are preferable even if it's a NewGame+, right? And what's this I hear about transfering data from the first Golden Sun?
