I hope I don't have to redo an AVI in the future, it's quite annoying. But I'll keep that in mind.

I thought the movie was entertaining, but I'd like to see it optimized better. I'm thinking 5-10 seconds can be saved.

Bisqwit noticed earlier the sound towards the end of the AVI desynced pretty bad and I agree with him. The problem was due to a glitch in VBA, but thanks to help from DeHackEd, that problem has been resolved. I reencoded the video, so redownload the AVI for those of you who want it. Sorry for the inconvience, shouldn't happen again now that VBA is patched properly.

As for the bittorrent situation... rather than have nach seeding the torrent, alone, with his 1kb/s connection
If someone again for some reason says I have 1KB/s connection, maybe I'll just stop uploading it now.

And with me, we're ensured a good 50-200 seeds for any movie I encode within the next two days, so that's good for the healthiness of the torrent and that particular movie.

Right. Let's suggest I use Super Seeding now even though I'm using it already. Any other suggestions you'd like to make that I'm already doing? Patience is a virtue, you're not going to get it faster unless you want to donate some serious money.

I've been uploading SA3 at 4KB/s. And next week if all goes well, I will have the new faster service just introduced in my area. But you'll have to wait for now.

No it isn't. You can also see DMG printed clearly on all hardware, and it's the accronym used in Nintendo Power since it came out, as well as the accronym mentioned in all the dev material.

As said on the previous page, if someone sends me what I need, I'll publish the cam hack too.

No I don't. DMG is the official accronym.

Normally I'd suggest good ol' BASIC. Although dijkstra said BASIC causes brain damage, although he also said the same about OOP. Pick a BASIC with functions and stuff, and teach him cleanly, it should work out well. Once you have the general programming ideas down, input, output, conditionals, loops, functions, arrays. You can then jump into C++, show him the new syntax, explain memory and pointers. Then he'd be on his way to full fledged programming. Once you know any two diverse languages, you should be easily able to pick up more on your own with a reference.

Not really. You can't even depend on Java either. Some people just don't have the VM installed. Some Linux and BSD distros even refuse to bundle the Java VM because they don't like it's license and feel it's closed source or whatever.
Isn't there a GPL Java VM, a separate project, which works to a large degree but cannot always run programs that weren't tested on it?
I heard about that. However it now means Java doesn't run the same everywhere.

Yes, I threw that in with the other MS technology by mistake.

Not really. You can't even depend on Java either. Some people just don't have the VM installed. Some Linux and BSD distros even refuse to bundle the Java VM because they don't like it's license and feel it's closed source or whatever. If you do something server side you never have to worry about compatibility, but that you can't do anything dynamically on the user's side. For client side, there's ASP, ActiveX and VB and whatever scripts from MS which no one else supports. JavaScript which is implemented differently or incompletely among various browsers, and a bit underpowered (but still useful). Lastly Java which is *icky*, and requires a VM which you can't depend on being there. Personally if I want client side scripting I'll use JavaScript and test and tweak it on all browsers so I know it'll work right 99% of the time for people who have JS existing and enabled. But sometimes though there's just things you can't do. Sanely anyway.

It's only with the leaf shield to my knowledge. And this really has to be played with more. This game definitly has the glitches, it's one of the few on DMG this bugged. If you found another half dozen glitches in this game, it wouldn't suprise me in the least.

Here's a pic of me doing part of the invincibility trick. When doing it you get an extra pointless bar appear. Unforunetly I forget the exact steps needed :(

Gee, well, that depends. On http://www.freechess.org/, it's possible to play chess online without having any client installed, thanks to Java. That would not be possible with C++. This also ensures it is possible to do this on any operating system, as long as it supports Java.
That's really not an aspect of the Java language, it's the matter of using a VM to run it. If someone made a C++ VM and a byte code option got added to C++ compilers, you can do the exact same thing as long as you stuck to standard C++ and libs.

I'm going to publish this run since it's pretty good, however I think it can be improved a bit. This is the most buggiest DMG game I know of. Certainly the buggiest Mega Man one. Now I haven't tried battering this game like I have Mega Man III for example, but I already know of 3 bugs in this game. 1) Start+Select+A+B doesn't work 2) Getting shot properly while on ladder teleports you to top of it 3) Dieing while leaf shield is activated and protecting you makes you invincible for duration of level or game, I don't remember The first is useless for a speed run. The second you might be able to use in two or three places. The third I forget exactly how to pull it off, I think it had some to do with the cats in Top Man's level. However invincibility for a long duration or perhaps the whole game means a lot. (Sorry but I haven't really went crazy in this game since I was 9, so I don't remember all the details). The game should be searched for more bugs. I recall beating Needle Man faster. IIRC, if you time and position the jump right, you can beat him in two shots. A few other places I felt could be optimized slightly. Most notably places where you've damaged yourself a few locations consecutively or some places where you used rush jet I felt could be done faster if you turned off rush jet sooner. Also in some places I felt if you enabled the weapon to fight the boss with earlier and use it to take out the last few level enemies would be faster.

If someone passes me a working Linux x86-32 or Linux x86-64 binary of VBA with Sonic Cam, I'll encode the AVI and publish that too.

Just burn the AVIs you want with a copy of mplayer or something on a DVD. That's what I do. Works on any decent PC.

For those that have no idea how to seek, yes.

5 movies on a dvd are you crazy? You can fit more then that , most of the movies are nes and with nes you can lower bitrate and fit lots of movies on there.
It's an example, for our 2+ hour videos I'd doubt you even get 5. However whatever it is, you'd get more if you used MPEG4 technology.
HiddenGamer wrote:
As for your connection problems thats not my problem. Don't be so impatient it probably takes longer to make the dvd iso's then download it,
You really have no idea then. It'd take a few hours to create the DVD ISO, while it'd take over a month to download the ISO from me.
HiddenGamer wrote:
and with downloading you can just leave your computer on and it does the work.
I can't leave it on for a month straight, and even if I could it's still annoying to wait a month just to see a few videos which you could download individually at smaller sizes much faster.

I just noticed this. I really don't see the point... Isn't it better to offer choice on which videos you want instead of make ISOs which have the same 5? Or the fact that to get the same quality we'd need to waste a lot more space. I also think if I was going to do this I'd never hear the end of it, please seed! Why aren't you super seeding? How slow is your connection? It's only 4GB! Why aren't there other seeds? This encoder is not going to be doing DVDs.

I think it gets a Moon automatically if it replaces a run that has or had a star. Bisqwit would know for sure though. And stars can only be given out by Bisqwit.
